Many things! So many that I only culled the very best links for the spam, and it's still hugelong. Well, it's not that bad. JUST READ IT.

To begin: the new Made of Fail, "Self-Esteem is for Everybody," is up. I'm not on it (Scarlett is of Scarlettopia and the Spoony Experiment is, much to Dayna's twitterpation), but Dayna and I were talking a few days before, and she had me write down what I was saying so she could read it on air (about 28 minutes in), and it was: my advice to geek boys. My sad, hard-won, somewhat embittered advice. Alas, earwax.

Also, the Christopher Pike thing just got better. (Scroll down to "ETA again.") Not only is he now accusing caligirl_08 of being the one with an army of Amazon review sockpuppets, he's claiming that [community profile] bookfails is "a livejournal community sponsored by someone of Turkish background who has taken things much too far and is trying to rob fiction authors of their artistic license." Such artistic license includes claiming that the Aryans of India are the same as the "Nordic ideal" Aryans.

However: sad news as well.

Hollywood legend Tony Curtis dies at 85.

Bonnie and Clyde Director Arthur Penn Dies at 88.

'Marty,' 'Chinatown' actor Joe Mantell dies at 94.

First of all: in case you missed it, since I did post on a Saturday when everyone was out actually doing things, there is a new Secret Life of Dolls. And bless y'all for actually commenting on the "Explain what you like about Secret Life" entry; I didn't think you'd actually do it. I was hoping for maybe a couple of quotes I could use in the future, not 100+ comments. Bless. So I have now written the next four entries (you can see some of the titles here; two of them are just too spoilery to post), and I'll have to take pictures, but I hope we can get to #78 by Halloween, and since they're drafted, I don't see any reason why (OH GOD DON'T LET THE HOUSE BURN DOWN) we can't.

Meanwhile, I was extremely productive yesterday because my internet connection decided to hate me. Over and over and over again. As such, there was no linkspam. But a few key things happened, and I would like to mention them briefly and then catch other things later tonight or tomorrow: IT'S REALLY HAPPENING )

Okay, the new Poufwa Exchange podcast I'm on is up--you can get it at iTunes or at www.poufwaexchange.com. I don't have preview snippets of this one, but these are the fine people who previously brought you the Twilight Sex Education "I think he did a lot of reading... maybe he scrapbooked it afterwards" discussion last year. I'd have to go through it again to give you specific times, but we do talk about the Russet Noon fanfic fiasco (ETA: okay, that starts around the 50-minute mark), pseuicide ("He couldn't even stay dead for 24 hours!"), Twitter, American Idol, and--for a good long time--The Secret Life of Dolls.

Meanwhile, I did find my bottle of BPAL's High John the Conqueror and am now judiciously daubed with it. Mmm, grapey herbs.

(Still footnoting. Not much else to report, except that Scout got worse, in that "Aaaand now it's all out of his system... and on our carpet" way, and now he is better.)

Re: the SDCC exclusive Tonner Edward variant: I think my problem here isn't OMG IT'S A TWILIGHT DOLL I MUST HAVE IT; it's that I love incorporating stuff into the Secret Life stories. And "stuff" often gets expensive, although not always--some of the best bits have been small reader gifts (The Littlest Cowboy Hat, for example), or stuff I found around the house (the dessert fork for pitching the ponies' grass), or old toys from my closet (the ponies themselves). I mean, there are dolls I want for myself that I haven't bought because I couldn't justify the cost (even crazy-fantastic bargains) by thinking of a way to incorporate them--but I see something that makes me go HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO PUT THAT IN THE STORY and it's like my brain just shuts down. I mean, I saw Super Special Exclusive Legolas with Cloak on eBay and fought for that thing to the $40 death AND STILL GOT IT FOR HALF WHAT IT USUALLY GOES FOR, SUCKAAAAAS. It's kind of my equivalent of "SQUIRREL!"

But I am trying to talk myself down off the Gratuitous Edward Variant ledge because: Alice. I have to have Alice. I can't not have Alice. I have to bring Alice's awesome to The Shelf. I can't blow this kind of money on a character I already have in a slightly different shirt and afford an Alice. So there's that. I... I'll have to see a picture of the variant Edward, I guess. *hangs head*

Oh, by the way, we have a reader question about dolls--where to find good sites for accessories for 4" figures?

Oh, and my mother has found someone who wants to buy the plates. Not the mugs yet, though.

Re: This morning's Secret Life of Dolls: There was an alternate picture I didn't post that might explain what was going on in the photos a bit better--the second one was actually supposed to be The Littlest Edward complaining ("IT'S INDECENT!," etc.) from "my" perspective sitting there at my desk. Also, Serafina's pose was supposed to look like this, only I couldn't quite get her legs to cooperate, so it ended up looking like more of a pinup pose (not unfittingly). And in case you were wondering how inadequately clothed Eva Green!Serafina tended to look in the movie, here you are.

Meanwhile, my mother watched the Twilight DVD the other night--I've gotten through most of the extras--and asked if I could find her sheet music for "that song Edward Cullen plays on the piano." (She used to love playing the piano and wants to get back to it.) "I know it isn't really him playing it in the movie," she assured me for some reason. "No, it's him," I said (deciding to give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't think that Actual Edward Cullen had somehow been magicked into existence for the purpose of filming a movie), "the actor's also a musician." "HE IS?" she cried. "I REALLY like him now!"

It's happened. I can't deny it anymore. She's a Twimom. I facepalmed.

Stayed off Mountain Dew today, although it was hard--interestingly enough, because I really, really missed the taste of it, not the caffeine. That's always what brings me back around to it--the taste, for some reason. Of course, I still had a caffeine-withdrawal headache anyway, but today's was less deathly than yesterday's. (I'll say it up front, though: I'm allowed to have soda if I go out to eat or see a movie. It's the habit I'm trying to break.)

And now, back to our scheduled Doctor Who wank (major spoiler for series five).

The tree is up! And Sister Girl and her boyfriend are coming over to help decorate it tonight! Thus, linkspam will be early.

Oh, and I had a request to syndicate my ever-so-scintillating Twitter feed, so... here it is: [livejournal.com profile] cleotwitter. (Deeply fascinating sample Twit: "Aaaaand the new Britney song has eaten my brain. Well, it's not like Twilight left me with all that much of one anyway.")

From [livejournal.com profile] punzerel: "[livejournal.com profile] urbanfictions is pledging to donate 100% of her etsy proceeds in the next week to UNICEF, specifically for emergency relief of the cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe. She has some very cool items (check out the doorknob hangers, especially) which would make awesome stocking stuffers or gifts. Would you be willing to post a link in your next linkspam post? Y'all, I discovered something today that blew my mind. I'd been suspecting it for a while now--you see yourself in the mirror every day, it's kind of hard not to--but I thought maybe I was just imagining it. I KNEW IT! )

Meanwhile! The Tonner Narnia dolls are back up again! And I think they've changed Susan's face! For the better.

(Coronation Susan's the one I want, but I checked with the girls, of course. They are interested in nothing but Twilight dolls these days, sadly. Anna could barely muster a "Hold out for one with the bow and arrows," and Eowyn dismissed the male Pevensies with a wave of her hand: "Yeah, those boys were fine in the movies. But that jailbait right there is not quality enough to risk Chris Hansen knocking on my door." Purple Arwen couldn't even manage that much: "Call me when Caspian shows up." I should have known she'd hold out for the exiled king.)

Also! Thanks from [livejournal.com profile] heyorion for y'all helping out with the synesthesia project.

Oh, and all Twilight spam has been quarantined to the previous entry.

More linkspam! Um... a few TV cancellations, sorry about that )

Because it's worth linking again: the greatest Breaking Dawn macro that ever has been or ever will be made.

The rest of the EW Twilight covers. Foolishly, I thought they might actually have someone not playing Edward or Bella on the third cover. What can I say? It's been a long week and I'm off my game.

Today, I am full of French onion soup and accomplishment. Really full. I have a few screencaps to make (I want to link to visual evidence of some of this weirdness), but other than that, I'm putting the Van Helsing footnotes to bed. Exciting. Which means I get to plow on through the list chronologically and keep going until I hit another unfootnoted patch, and hopefully work through the entire set UNTIL THEY ARE DONE, OMG.

A weird little sidenote: I've been trying out different old BPAL favorites as room scents, and even though Fae is a pretty bubbly scent (bergamot, heliotrope and peach, I think?), I haven't been all that productive this week. Then I put out Siren (ginger, jasmine, vanilla and apricot), and suddenly I'm getting a lot more done. Could be a coincidence, I don't know.

OH OH OH I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING SOMETHING: Today's flashback is (the oddly prescient... kind of) MyScene Lindsay Lohan entry. I even went through and freshened up all the picture links (well, except for one, and I have no idea what it originally was).

Not much going on today, except HOLY CRAP AN AVALANCHE OF HARRY POTTER STILLS. Also, Sister Girl has gotten a Brittany spaniel puppy (she's living in an apartment on her own now, not here with us, so it's very much her first pet as an independent adult), and he is tiny and and skinny and recovering from some stomach parasite and darling. I held Pete in the car when she took him to the vet this morning, and despite how sick and sad he was when she first got him earlier this week, he kept looking up at me and breaking out into this huge grin, like, "This is the sweet life!" AWWWW.

So: Still anxious, jittery, and unhungry, but either it's easing up a tad or I'm getting used to it. I've been burning a lot of scented candles (usually something fruity or tropical) in a fragrant attempt at stress management, spending more time in the sun, that kind of thing. Oh, and the mouse disappeared for a night, then reappeared yesterday evening and kept me up all night rummaging under my bed. Also, I'm not turning on American Idol tonight until the last ten minutes, so if anything wacky happens, YouTube will just have to cover me.

From [livejournal.com profile] loafing_oaf: "A friend of mine and his pals have set up a site: Carbon Geeks. Their aim is to raise money, through ad-revenue, for carbon-offset projects and other environmental organisations. It's similar to the freerice model, but with general knowledge quiz type questions instead of vocabulary testing. It's not long gone live, and they don't have much traffic yet, so I said I'd ask if you could post a link here. So, if you'd be willing to pass the link on, that would be fantastic. They are also looking for feedback on ways to improve the site, or things that people like/dislike about it. There is a 'contact us' link at the site, or if people prefer they can drop a comment to this post at my journal."

Sorry I dropped off the map there for a couple of days--we've had some updates in the Lexicon case, and I've been tied up with that. Today it looked like there would be a jury trial (!), until we realized that the court filing was actually saying that a request for a jury trial (as opposed to a judge-only bench trial) had to be submitted by March 14, not that a jury trial was already set. Unless that request is made, there's going to be a bench trial March 24-26, which was the announcement that spawned the initial update. We've also discovered what I consider to be some conflict-of-interest shenanigans involving RDR Books, the Stanford Fair Use Project, and something called "The Right to Write Project" at the Women's Center for... (wait for it) ...Ethics in Action. (Am I just crazy? Naive? Does there not seem to be something wrong about starting up a vaguely named "free speech" fund, of which Roger Rapoport--the "RDR" in RDR Books--is president, to make sure that FUP gets paid, rather than just saying, "Here, please contribute to a defense fund, since we're doing this pro bono"?)

Meanwhile, on a different subject, someone's spoken to Erin, and she hasn't had her surgery yet--she's in a holding pattern until the seizures are under control.

So today it rained not men, but icy slush. I don't think it's going to get quite cold enough this week to snow (and stick), but people are running around screaming and rioting in the grocery stores anyway, which means that I should be fully prepared to see Cloverfield on Friday (huzzah!).

Oh, and I finished Girl Sleuth last night, which was great. I should talk about it--and a ton of other books--more later, but suffice it to say, I want to read both the old-school Nancy Drew pre-rewrite originals and Mildred Wirt's Penny Parker books now.

(Omg roffle.)

Today is my grandmother's birthday, yay! Yesterday we all had a birthday lunch for her with roast beast beef and carrots and potatoes and cake and ice cream and a creamy orange and pineapple congealed salad which is actually really yum, thanks for asking. We're Southern, what can I say. Also, we ended up talking about Britney Spears, and my grandmother was surprisingly up-to-date on the crazy ("That Dr. Phil said he was going to help her! She needs to stop messing with that married man"). It was a good day.

Greatest Journal: the final days.

Alleged Response from Cassie Edwards Issued via MySpace; Edwards plagiarized for author's note and from Britannica. Seriously? Seriously?

"I, seriously, was like the Lindsay Lohan of scrapbooking." Something I found wandering around from those links: a Nancy Drew keepsake box. Which I took as a sign that I should read the Nancy Drew book Valkyrie got for my birthday next.

(I feel kind of ashamed saying this, but... I kind of want to scrapbook now. Like, only with things I have around the house, because I'm cheap. I mean, couldn't it be fun? A page for a movie you saw, for a book you liked, for something you went out and did one night? Except that I don't even know what you scrapbook on. I guess I could do digital scrapbooking with image files and a scanner.)

Lupercalia 2008 scents are up at BPAL (did you hear! Beth's having a baby!), and Earth Rat sounds really good (I like citrus).

Cassie Edwards: Remarkable Similarities to Pulitzer-Winning Novel Laughing Boy. Ohhhhhh shit, now we're really in it. Because this isn't "I didn't know you couldn't copy research sources" anymore.

Meanwhile, someone gets into it with Nora Roberts, whose wonderful patience finally snaps at being told "Shame on you," in the comments at the Smart Bitches site. I'm not saying that Roberts will look back at "Bite me" as one of her finest moments, but OMG ILU NORA!

You know what? Actually, I'd like to stop here and talk about something--something that's a little bit moot now that we have some Pulitzer Prize plagiarism going on here--but something that I see come up so often in fandom. What I consider plagiarism )

I need more population so I can get to the point where they'll let me put up a clicky link to improve the environment, but the environment's already getting crapful and I have no way to do anything about it, unlike with the previous two things (transportation and industry), so people are leaving "for some unpolluted clean air." Which means that I can't get enough people to stay to get the population high enough to do anything about the environment. Also? Criminals are blowing up factories (I need more security), which is... kind of awesome, actually. I like to pretend the Joker's behind it all. Again, post your links in the comments and I'll click on them (ah, the joys of tabbed browsing).
