YOU GUYS

WHO IS AWAKE

THIS IS INSANE

I WENT TO SEE THE MOVIE AT MIDNIGHT

AND I GET OUT AND CHECK TWITTER ON MY PHONE

AND I SEE THIS

@CBSNews: BREAKING: Reported mass-#shooting at #Batman movie premiere in #Denver suburb. Multiple casualties reported. CBS crews headed to scene

Reports: 10 Shot Dead At Batman Film Premiere, current version of article:

A masked gunman shot dead 10 people and wounded 30 to 40 others at a premiere showing of the new Batman movie in Denver.

Local radio reported people running screaming from the Century Aurora 16 Movie Theater in a mall in the suburb of Aurora.

The gun man reportedly opened fire after 30 minutes of the showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and also set off a smoke or tear gas bomb.

Brenda Stuart, from 850 KOA Radio, told Sky News: "This started with a midnight showing of the new Dark Knight movie and the theatres were packed that were showing this movie.

"People inside tell us they thought it was part of the movie. They heard what they thought were firecrackers, loud bangs and all of a sudden they saw the bullets flying.

"Police officers are carting the injured to the hospital in their own cars, not waiting for the ambulances."

Police closed off surrounding parking lots as sniffer dogs were brought in to search for a suspected explosive device.

WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON

ETA: It's on Fox News. Two individuals, one in each theater, wearing gas masks, dropped tear gas bombs, mass panic, man raised his weapon, started shooting, didn't care who he was shooting, some children, one person in custody, looking for a second shooter, ten confirmed dead, possibly twelve. Jesus, I can't even. Something about point-blank range, I really do not like what I think I heard in the rest of that sentence.

ETA: What I'm hearing now: Just one shooter, in custody. Twenty years old or in his twenties. Bullets pierced the wall and went into a second theater, which is (I suspect) where the "two shooters" idea came from. Rifle, handgun, possibly a second handgun hidden in the theater. Explosives in his car and at his apartment; that block has been evacuated. 14 dead (many or most of them children), 39 at hospital(s), 50 wounded total.

@mikeryan: At halftime, I hope Madonna plays "Gambler" from the Vision Quest soundtrack. Just that. No explanation.

@cleolinda: How bad is it? I can't find the remote.

@particle_p: @cleolinda OMG EXCELLENT TURN THIS ON. She went with a quasi Roman theme, as kind of an obvious jab at the proceedings. ;-)

A few things:

I did, in fact, post Breaking Dawn in Fifteen Minutes, and "A Scene That Must Have Happened" was the running-gag not-gimmick I was referring to earlier. (Y'all, I'm just saying: I completely believe that all of those things must have happened. For some reason, this book/movie was filled with a ton of Fridge Logic moments.) I am very pleased with the way it turned out, actually. I don't think I've ever had so much fun writing one of these before, and there was very little anxiety involved. (I actually think it kicked me into something of a manic episode--I didn't sleep very well and had a hard time eating, but felt GREAT. Or was it coincidence? A lucky moodswing break? Sparkle is the best medicine? I don't know.) Honestly, though, if there was ever a movie suited to a Fifteen Minutes, it was going to be this one. LJ isn't sending me comment notifications at the moment, but I'm trying to keep up with comments and subsequent replies by ENDLESSLY REFRESHING as best I can.

(Raunchiest thing I've ever written, and my mother loves it. And also y'all's comments. God bless.)

Also:

I'm not saying this doesn't creep me the hell out. I'm just saying that the Bloggess wearing a real wolf pelt, head and all, to Breaking Dawn is the best worst thing ever.

"The whole time I had my hand over my face. I was thinking, I cannot legitimately talk about this as an obstetrician."

The Cherpumple piecaken. My sister is considering attempting a pumpchoccan one now.

Nothing to link to on this one, but I have put in an official request for a Pallas cat Webkinz. We shall see.

Internets, there was a lot of jackassery today. It's kind of impressive.

The Wicked Pretty Things imbroglio: Jessica Verday explained that she was pulling out of the YA anthology because she was asked to make a story with a male/male romance into a male/female romance. No problem with the actual content, violence or language; just make one of the characters a girl. Verday said AW HALE NAW (I may be paraphrasing here). SHENANIGANS )

As of yesterday, The Lovely Emily now has a Baby Em, yay! She has a very pretty, classic name with a very cute nickname that I am not going to tell you because I love y'all, but this is the internet.

So... it's been an interesting week.

@cleolinda: My aunt just found a girl wandering around my grandmother's yard. Called the cops. Turns out girl is a known scout for a burglary ring.

Fringe Boots then offered to dogwalk for cash )

No, I don't have anything better to do on a Friday night than sit at home, listen to really old Bryan Adams, and fuck around on Twitter. We've already taken my mother out for her birthday dinner and come back, I don't know what else you want from me.

@Salome: @cleolinda So OF COURSE they have these personalize-your-own vampire books... http://www.bookbyyou.com/teen/default.asp

Oh my God, this is mortifying. I am totally going to fill it out now )

I fully encourage you to mess around with the other book generators, which include but are not limited to Fierce Moon, Pirates of Desire, and Click for Love. Obviously, you have to report back afterwards.

@Tonnerdirect: 2011 TOY FAIR RELEASE IS NOW LIVE!!! http://fb.me/VxYR6S1D

Twilight: The official reveal of Tonner Jasper (which I grabbed pictures of last week). The more I look at this, the more I am convinced that this will actually be a good likeness in person. As opposed to...

The Vampire Diaries: What. What. What is this. What. I don't even watch the show and what. What is this. Terrifying, is what this is.

I guess the Elena's good. I keep meaning to watch the show but haven't, so I wouldn't know.

Harry Potter: Blue School Uniform Fleur. I've also heard that a Viktor Krum is on the way. No plans for a Cedric, AFAIK, which baffles me. I mean, since it's a larger scale doll, I guess they'd have to go back to a certain very beleaguered actor to get his permission for the likeness again, and he may have decided that he is Done With All This. Because I have to imagine that Tonner knows how well it would sell. They can't just be like, "Nah, we already have a lot of dolls, we don't actually need the money."

DC Stars: A new Catwoman (goggles!), Wonder Woman, Raven (I'm not familiar with this character?), Dove (ditto?), Black Canary, and... Starfire. That's... quite an outfit there.

Disney Princess Collection: Pink Dress Ariel, which you don't usually see; a Jasmine that looks incredibly, incredibly off. Yeah... that is not going to be approved.

Freedom for Fashion: A line of Japanese fashion dolls ("Explore the fast-paced streets of Tokyo"). Tonner's usually so good at putting out a variety of skin colors and ethnicities (the Mei Li fashion doll sculpt is clearly different from the Japanese dolls' features, even), so I absolutely cannot explain that Jasmine face. Although the fact that the Jasmine reuses "the Snow White head sculpt" might be our first problem.

Meanwhile, I am sure you are all aware that this is a very important day.

@bestforfilm: Silence of The Lambs 20th anniversary is TODAY - pop open a nice Chianti with your lover & watch that romantic fear blossom

@cleolinda: @bestforfilm I confess, it is my favorite movie.

@bestforfilm: @cleolinda glorious film. Glorious. Anthony Hopkins' Maniacal Stare: Be my Valentine.

@cleolinda: @bestforfilm I first saw it when I was about 14. Clarice Starling (and thence Dana Scully) rapidly became my model for life.

I am unusually at peace with the occasion, actually. Also, do not forget Discount Chocolatemas tomorrow.

Gawker: Ambulances Called, Show Stopped After 'Big Accident' in Spider-Man Musical.

"Here's what seems to have happened: The actor playing Spider-Man (Reeve Carney or his alternate Matthew James Thomas?) and the actress playing his love interest Mary Jane (Jennifer Damiano) fell into the stage pit an hour or so into the show. According to screenwriter Brian Lynch [on Twitter], 'No joke. No explanation. MJ and Spidey took what seemed to be a planned fall into the stage pit. Then we heard MJ screaming.' "

Someone else who wrote in to Gawker: "Long story short, spiderman fell abt 30 feet INTO THE PIT. As soon as he fell, the lead female character yelled (from the pit) "someone call 9-1-1." I wish I was making this up. When we left there were ambulances and firefighters outside the theater on 43rd."

Just to put this in context, here are the three previous stories about the show on Gawker:

Spider-Man Musical's First Show Goes Splat (rigging falls into the audience, harnesses malfunction)

Curse of the Spider-Man Musical Claims Another Victim (actress gets a concussion)

The Spider-Man Musical Is the Most Dangerous Show on Broadway (dancer breaks both wrists, actor breaks both feet)

Y'all, someone has got to pull the plug on this show. I don't care if they've spent a billion dollars on it--someone is going to get killed.

Update: Actor being treated at hospital after falling from broken rope during 'Spider-Man' preview - New York Times.

I am having a Not Good Day--not quite a Bad Day, but definitely Not Good--for no particular reason at all. I've spent the entire day feeling aimlessly pitiful and wanting to cry. Mostly, I stare at an open Word document for several minutes at a stretch, then check on my Godfinger All-Stars phone app.

Mostly, I like to grow flowers and watch my tiny pixel people catch fish. It's very soothing. They just fish and fish and fiiiiish. My followers are now building me a spooky mansion. It was very expensive and takes three hours to build. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I... I need help.

So. As far as I know, both of my grandmothers are stable.

Marie Claire is a bunch of jackasses who apparently set their "provocative blogger" up to fail for the page views.

And lo, the internet rose up as one and smote them thus.

Pallas cats playing in jack-o'-lanterns make me feel better. (Thanks, @giishu.)

I was able to put up the third signed copy of Movies in Fifteen Minutes for auction, and I am considering doing 1) a Year of Postcards from me, 2) a year from The Littlest Edward, because (as we all know), he is craftsy, and 3) a year from Galadriel, who would be able to drop dark hints about future Secret Life developments.

New Made of Fail episode: It Gets Better. I've just started listening to it, but it seems to be partly about this month's national bullying dialogue, if you will, and the horror genre for Halloween. Note: their January episode just went for $500 at the [profile] foresthouseeyes auction. I don't even know.

Also, you need a plush Wizard of Oz monkey in your life.

HEY LET'S HAVE SOME ACTUAL LINKSPAM.

New Secret Life of Dolls thataway. We've had three new entries so far and the read-through is updated, if you need to catch up on those (Christmas II is the first of the new ones). I'm trying to decide which day is best to update on--I'm trying to space them out with some kind of regularity. I was doing them on Saturdays, but I'm not sure if people actually see them on the weekends. Monday seems like a terrible day because, as someone suggested, people are busy catching up. Tuesdays, maybe? Although... if people learn to expect them on Saturdays, maybe it's not a problem. I don't know.

In case you're wondering, it's not that I got tired of the series or forgot about it for nine months. It's that I had a massive block as to how to make those last three entries work. I would sit and pick at the drafts every other week or so, and just... nothing. That last one, I pretty much ended up rewriting the entire thing from scratch the other week. It happens. And if I have to wait nine months for something not-crap to occur to me, well... there it is.

The good news is, I have the next seven entries either written or mostly written, and shit, as Mark would say, is about to get real.

Meanwhile, it's an "I see this working out well for you" kind of day on the movie news front: Linkspam! )
