Okay, I just saw Maleficent and I kind of loved it so if you would like to discuss it here, go for it, but I have to warn you, I'm also finishing Penny Dreadful tonight, and my thoughts are already so scattered that I'm considering doing voice posts just because I let text entries sit here for weeks at a time and constantly re-edit them to keep them current then don't post them anyway. In other news, my Zoloft reduction is actually going a lot better than this paragraph would lead you to think.
Previous entry! I forgot to actually link to the e-book anthology containing my Black Ribbon short story, which is a ghost story about 1) Rose's mother and 2) making life decisions and 3) thus I kind of wanted people to feel a little changed after they read it. You'll have to tell me if it works. Also I will have another short story coming out soon, although this is fantasy-themed.
Eyeshadow! The last three colors in the This Is My Design collection have been decided and named, so we'll be finishing up in the next couple of weeks, with a total of 30. For #28 this past Friday, champagne and something pink: ( Read more... )
I've really liked that we've had bold, experimental colors--things I wouldn't have tried except for the show theme--but also colors that are pretty everyday-wearable, while still interesting. I think I'm going to try this one with Cygnus. On the other hand, this week's color will be the one we discussed in the comments of the previous entry, the one where I explained why I thought we shouldn't do it, then promptly turned around after that discussion and said that maybe we should. I threw out a name, and Kristen immediately thought of a new way to do it. So we'll see how that turns out.
Meanwhile! Here's A Matter of Taste's discussion of Alien; I am currently prepping to record the Aliens episode with them tomorrow. Later in August, I will return... for reasons.

A few things
Aug. 3rd, 2012 11:14 amThe new Made of Fail is up, wherein Dayna, George, J.D. DeMotte and I discuss The Dark Knight Rises. And Kitten War.
Meanwhile,
foresthouse interviewed me for Comicmix on the subject of comic book movies, on a topic also brought up on the show: So, fan who doesn't read comics, how do comic-book movies actually work out for you? Basically, I'm an excellent interview, if by "excellent" you mean "never, ever shuts up." I think this time we are presenting it as a feature, not a bug.
Also, there is a new James Bond trailer. This is important. There is nothing better than what happens at 2:16. That said, I'm not sure why Javier Bardem's hair can't ever have nice things.
P.S. You remember Prometheus in Fifteen Minutes, and that particular moment when I was like, "The Adventures of [Spoiler and Spoiler's Spoiler in a Spoiler]: I'd watch it"? IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. \;;;/

Jun. 12th, 2012 06:35 pmPrometheus in Fifteen Minutes.
I would put up a sample quote, but with this movie... I'm not sure I can.
If you haven't seen the movie and want to, feel free to save the Fifteen Minutes for later. It'll keep. I'd rather people say they waited to read it than "Now I don't have to see the movie at all!" It's always a smidge funnier when you realize how little I was making up. On the other hand, it ought to be comprehensible if you don't.
(Yeah, the "alien language" line is actually a simple letter replacement; it can, in theory, be translated. If no one can, well--you get someone to officially reveal what David said in the moviewhich will never happen, and we'll talk. Seriously, I want to know.)
(On the other hand, do you want to know? Is there any translation that would possibly satisfy you? Seriously, it's not that great.)
I don't mind saying I'm working on something for The Avengers (have been struggling with it for more than two weeks, now, actually, since I saw it a second time), because there's too much of it done to give up anyway. It doesn't have the wonderful footholds of absurdity that Prometheus does, so it's harder.
Also, people seem to be having trouble getting LJ to work. I didn't do it.

So I saw Prometheus
Jun. 8th, 2012 02:30 pm@cleolinda: TODAY \;;;/
@cleolinda: #leavingthehouseomg on the Good Ship Nobody Dies in ten minutes; have not figured out a Cthulhu Doing the Cabbage Patch emoticon
@cleolinda: IT HAS BEEN SEEN. FIVE TENTACLES UP. \;;;\ /;;;/ ~;;;~ \;;;\ /;;;/ #prometheus
@cleolinda: I have a few distinct thoughts about wtf the movie was trying to do, and as soon as I get home, I will explain. WOOOOOOOO
@cleolinda: We will go into the spoiler linkspam I have been saving sight unseen and my feels, as the kids say, about the overall series later.
I want to be as vague as possible with the spoilers, but--responses to this movie seem so violently mixed that, when I had a sudden epiphany as the movie ended, I felt like people might go into it with different expectations if they approached it a particular way. For one thing, none of the Alien movies are anything like the others, if you think about it. I always thought Alien itself was kind of slow until I read that Ridley Scott thought of it as "a haunted house movie," and then I got it. Whereas Aliens is kind of a war movie, by contrast. (I think I've only seen #3 and #4 once each, when they originally came out; I can't really say what "secret" genre they might be.) I like that they're all different. I didn't want this to be a remake of Alien; I wanted to see the filmmakers think of yet another take on the story. In fact, there is a movie I really love, in a wildly different genre, that Prometheus reminded me of:
MILD SPOILERS ( Read more... )
VAGUE BUT SIGNIFICANT ENDING SPOILERS ( Read more... )
Actually, you know why I was really open to whatever was going to happen in this movie, most likely? Because I had read THIS, this COMPLETELY WACKADOO alleged plot rundown, several months ago. These are, like, Alternate Universe Reverse Spoilers, in the sense that none of this happens at all: ( Read more... )
MORE SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE MOVIE, AND THUS A FEW SPOILERS ( Read more... )
BE WARNED THAT THE COMMENTS WILL BE A WILD FRONTIER OF SPOILERS, although I kind of hope people try to stay vague enough that others will still want to go see the movie so we have even more people to talk about it with. I'll post the spoiler linkspam on, I don't know, Monday? We can get into it then.

ALERT ALERT ALERT
Mar. 17th, 2012 11:11 amI probably need to say some things. I am still very tired from a persistent fevery death blarg, however. NONETHELESS the Dark Shadows trailer is out and it is not what any of us expected and I kind of love Eva Green it.
ALSO IN OTHER NEWS they keep putting out Prometheus trailers--twenty seconds! A FULL MINUTE! Two and a half minutes sometime later today!--and for real, Christopher Nolan needs to step up his trailer game because The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies but I would pretty much chew my own arm off and hit Batman in the face with it if he were standing between me and this movie.
Also-also, all the reviews and Twitter comments from people who saw The Hunger Games at its premiere last week indicate that all persons involved have knocked it out of the park. My understanding is that Tonner will preview their Katniss doll (!!!!) the week the movie comes out. I am working on many things to post, like Secret Life and Varney and what-all, but: fevery death blarg. My health has not been good for a long while now. However, I obviously have to hang on until I see The Hobbit, so we ought to be good for a while. IT IS A GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE.
ETA: ahhhhhhhh I just watched the full trailer when it went live, go to go.amctheatres.com/prometheus and it'll be at the end of the Q&A replay, omg some movie site post it nowwwww

@bathbomb: Also, today I did a little sketch of @cleolinda. This is what she looks like in my head.
@cleolinda: @bathbomb Other than the fact that I'm about twice as wide, it's actually pretty good.
@foresthouse: @cleolinda You look like that in my head too. Except there is a Pallas cat grumping over your shoulder.
@cleolinda: @foresthouse Considering that you've seen me in person, the likeness must be impressive.
@foresthouse: @cleolinda Well, okay, actually I confess that in my head you have purple hair, and no amount of seeing you IRL can change that. :P

Massive double linkspam
Jul. 21st, 2011 08:48 pmSo last night I was tired and also there was a pretty bad thunderstorm, and now I've got yesterday's linkspam and today's Comic-Con movie news to deal with. And deal with it we shall, in the most orderly way I can manage.

( DEEP BREATH )

All right. Let's try to resume linkspam service. First:
@mellymell: A friend needs help raising money for a lifesaving surgery. Please help & [pass on] if you can.
magtwysera: "A friend of mine- she's coloriffic on deviantart- is taking NYOP commissions over at http://coloriffic.deviantart.com/journal/41311599/#comments to pay for her sister's hospital bills."
Movie news:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 review: 9.5/10; Rupert Grint dreaded kissing Emma Watson, and 8 other revelations about Harry Potter; Want to see the Dark Knight teaser? Consider seeing Harry Potter 7.2.
( I am looking to get into the grime rap scene )

omg so tired. I've been pleasantly busy but not getting much sleep, which is kind of a problem, given that I'm still consumptive. Lots of errands, lots of cleaning, not as much recap writing as needs to be done. My own Christmas shopping is pretty much accomplished, so I'm helping my mother agonize over what the hell to get for everyone else. Also, if anything needs to be ordered online, this is generally my department.
@cleolinda: My grandmother can't see her Bible well enough anymore, so my mother found the whole thing on CD, as read by James Earl Jones.
@cleolinda: This was my question. RT @swirlee: What, was the Morgan Freeman edition sold out?
@queenanthai: "THOMAS. I FIND YOUR LACK OF FAITH DISTURBING."
Did leave the house omg and see Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which was... ehhhhh, I don't know. ( Let's discuss )
Let's have a little linkspam. I confess, this is a catch-up pulled from my Twitter, but some really interesting trailers came out that I don't want you to miss. Plus, an update on The Arachnid Musical.

So. As far as I know, both of my grandmothers are stable.
Marie Claire is a bunch of jackasses who apparently set their "provocative blogger" up to fail for the page views.
And lo, the internet rose up as one and smote them thus.
Pallas cats playing in jack-o'-lanterns make me feel better. (Thanks, @giishu.)
I was able to put up the third signed copy of Movies in Fifteen Minutes for auction, and I am considering doing 1) a Year of Postcards from me, 2) a year from The Littlest Edward, because (as we all know), he is craftsy, and 3) a year from Galadriel, who would be able to drop dark hints about future Secret Life developments.
New Made of Fail episode: It Gets Better. I've just started listening to it, but it seems to be partly about this month's national bullying dialogue, if you will, and the horror genre for Halloween. Note: their January episode just went for $500 at the
foresthouseeyes auction. I don't even know.
Also, you need a plush Wizard of Oz monkey in your life.
