So "let's take a day to livetweet Surprise Gender Swap Twilight" (yes, this is a real, official Stephenie Meyer book. This is not a drill) turned into a comparative-gender-studies week-long ordeal and I haven't even gotten to Vampire Baseball yet. (I'm over on my secondary Twitter account, @cleolindajones, for all this.) I'm having a lot of fun with it, but I definitely needed to take yesterday off, catch up on my sleep, and work on an Aromaleigh post. (Extras from the sold-out Primavera box will be available in the next few days? Don't let Kristen know I let you see this.) (I think Luciferus is the one I talked her into doing as an open edition? I didn't let you see this either.)

Anyway, if you'd like to catch up, here are the collected livetweets by day:

Also, the other week I posted a multimedia Dragon Con writeup detailing my adventures, including meeting Scott Thompson and Aaron Abrams, aka the "darling boy" story (*facepalm*), plus two different podcasts I was on to discuss it if you've ever wanted to hear me shout "FUCK A FUCKING DUCK," whee.

I'm not going to say straight out that I'm going to try to post every single day this year, but I'd like to post more often. And some days, that may involve a single link, if that's all I can manage. We'll call it The Daily Something.

@thehairpin: So, When Exactly Is a Dubstep?

@cleolinda: I still have no idea what a/the/wtf dubstep is, except that people seem to use it as an insult, like "hipster." #getoffmylawn

@cleolinda: omg if Skream's remix of "In for the Kill" is dubstep and I have that, that means that THE DUBSTEP IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE

SPEAKING OF SPARKLE EXPLOSIONS someone linked me to Nerd Lacquer nail polish on Etsy but only this afternoon did I comprehend that it is BASED IN ALABAMA? Just a glance at the color library indicates there are colors for--what, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who ("No, this product is not bigger on the inside"), Hitchhiker's Guide, Monty Python, Firefly, and--? Not sure what else. The next time I get to treat myself, I'll have to try a blue or something.

ONE MORE TIME: Breaking Dawn in Fifteen Minutes.

@made_of_fail: Episode Forty-Eight: And Then the Werewolf Fell In Love With the WAIT WHAT

@NoelCT: Want to hear me kinda sorta somewhat defend the Breaking Dawn and the Twilight series?

@NoelCT: Want to hear my impression of Edward Cullen as played by Christopher Walken?

@NoelCT: Want to hear about all the tasty treats one can make from a strawberry flavored uterus?

@NoelCT: Want to hear me explain the mechanics of male wet dreams to three women? Check out Made of Fail!

@cleolinda: I am also on it. RT @queenanthai: HEY GUESS WHAT episode is up http://made-of-fail-pc.livejournal.com/25442.html

Oh, this is also the one where I have a very controversial answer to the "Edward vs. Dracula" question. "IT'S NOT FAIR, BUT SHE WROTE IT THAT WAY!" Also, in the last ten minutes: how the Eggward story one of y'all told me explains why I still like the first movie more than any of the others.

Also, I remembered the "dirty question" someone asked poor Chris Weitz. Bonus: My turn on the Meet the Failcrew Q&A. Also-also: what happens when y'all don't write in for Mailbag Mondays.

@alliancesjr: THE FRIENDSHIP IS OVER. OOOOOVAAAAAAAAAAHHHH

A few things:

I did, in fact, post Breaking Dawn in Fifteen Minutes, and "A Scene That Must Have Happened" was the running-gag not-gimmick I was referring to earlier. (Y'all, I'm just saying: I completely believe that all of those things must have happened. For some reason, this book/movie was filled with a ton of Fridge Logic moments.) I am very pleased with the way it turned out, actually. I don't think I've ever had so much fun writing one of these before, and there was very little anxiety involved. (I actually think it kicked me into something of a manic episode--I didn't sleep very well and had a hard time eating, but felt GREAT. Or was it coincidence? A lucky moodswing break? Sparkle is the best medicine? I don't know.) Honestly, though, if there was ever a movie suited to a Fifteen Minutes, it was going to be this one. LJ isn't sending me comment notifications at the moment, but I'm trying to keep up with comments and subsequent replies by ENDLESSLY REFRESHING as best I can.

(Raunchiest thing I've ever written, and my mother loves it. And also y'all's comments. God bless.)

Also:

I'm not saying this doesn't creep me the hell out. I'm just saying that the Bloggess wearing a real wolf pelt, head and all, to Breaking Dawn is the best worst thing ever.

"The whole time I had my hand over my face. I was thinking, I cannot legitimately talk about this as an obstetrician."

The Cherpumple piecaken. My sister is considering attempting a pumpchoccan one now.

Nothing to link to on this one, but I have put in an official request for a Pallas cat Webkinz. We shall see.

...and it was pretty much what I expected, everything a Breaking Dawn movie had to be and could not help but be, etc. Read more... )

So I'm going to be writing as fast as I can for the next couple of days, because I think I can do this, possibly, in a semi-timely fashion--I basically sat there thinking a Fifteen Minutes the whole time, although, fuck my life, I forgot to bring any paper for notes. Well, I may be seeing it again tomorrow, so. I have thought of--I won't say a "gimmick," exactly, but a unifying, running joke, like the Viking saga in Eclipse, that will probably help me through a lot of it. You don't have to have one, but it helps you approach a scene you get stuck on from a different perspective. AND GOD KNOWS I WILL NEED IT.

Jesus, my head hurts.

SPARKLE OUT.

I feel like I should check in, this being Sparklemas. I have spent the entire month being really, severely, physically depressed--I can't remember if this time of year is always like this for me. It feels worse than usual, but then I remember how raw everything feels right around my birthday mid-December, so... it's probably just a seasonal downward spike. It's just so hard to explain, because you're not depressed "about" anything--it's like you've got the flu, influenza of the soul, and someone comes in and goes, "Where's the blood? It's not like anyone stabbed you or anything, walk it off." There's no easily recognized focal point--it's just there, draining you. Specific wounds take time to heal, yes, but you have something to focus on--change the bandages, take out the stitches; a specific event-driven depression, an emotional wound, might be a break-up or a job loss or the death of a loved one. You might not be able to do anything about it, but you have an idea of why you feel so horrible. I don't know--this emotional flu seems to have no real beginning and, you fear, no end. You can't explain it, you don't know what else to do, after the antidepressants and the vitamins and the full-spectrum lamp and everything else you've been recommended. It's just... haunting you.

However, it is also Sparklemas.

Indeed, sir. Indeed.

So, my Breaking Dawn schedule looks like this: Read more... )

Harry Potter is the Biggest Worldwide Debut Ever with $476M. That is to say, nearly half a billion dollars, blowing through the Eclipse midnight record, the New Moon opening day record, and the Dark Knight weekend record. From what I've seen of Comments on the Interwebs, Twilight fans and Batman fans are united in shouting YEAH WELL WAIT TILL OUR LAST MOVIE COMES OUT, and then they realize they're on the same side and run away to wash that icky fanboy/girl off. Whatever helps you sleep at night, kids.

Guillermo Del Toro and Emma Watson for Beauty and the Beast?; David Yates reveals his next project PP (post-Potter) (whoa, The Stand?); How Harry Potter Changed Publishing (three words: midnight release parties); 10 great, and 10 no-so-great, things about Harry Potter. And here's our discussion post, with a--well, not a defense, but an alternate take on the epilogue. Also:

@bestforfilm: We're opening a bar called Harry Shotters. Drinks include Margaritaskeeters, Cedric Daquiris, Mojicho Changs... #harrypotterdrinks

Concoctions include Pinot Gringotts, Episkey Sours, Mudbloody Marys, Blast Ended Skrewtdriver, Hex on the Beach, Ginny and Tonic, Ron and Coke, Creme De Menter, and my favorite, Madame Hooch.

The five designs, as you may recall )

The CafePress store is live, as mentioned yesterday at ridiculous length. I have tweaked all the description problems, half of which were caused by me fixing the original problems.

To summarize: Marc Vuletich, bless him, did some artwork for Team Sparklepire and Team Fursplode designs:

And I did some text-based designs for "I Drive Like a Cullen (I Speed with a Whiny Teen)"; "Talk to Your Kids About Vampires (And Drugs If You Have the Time)," a general vampire comment I once made; and "Vampire control is a serious problem that affects us all...," a paragraph from one of the Varney recaps. Read more... )

This is what I have spent the last, I don't know, five days or so working on, and for once in my life (or at least a very long while), I feel somewhat accomplished. I'm still trying to get writing-type work done, but I'm also going to start looking into other designs to put up next month. (The current designs aren't going anywhere.) I want to get some non-Twilight-parody designs up, so I think I'm going to try to work on something with cousins, Romans, matches, polar bears, and/or ponies next. A My Hideous Repast/Furious Kitten concert t-shirt is probably going to be a major design project, so that'll be a while. Also, my mother has given me the all-clear to use pictures of Sam, if y'all would be interested in some Petite Lap Bear magnets or something.

Okay. I am super nervous about having screwed up some tiny detail on the store, but if I don't let someone look at it, I'll keep picking at it for eternity. Y'all wander around, tell me what you think. (To make it more fun, there are a few descriptions that vary, particularly in the Team sections.) I am 98.23% sure all the images are centered correctly on all the products; three people have checked over it and found no problems. If anything, there might be an error in the "cute" text descriptions, which have no bearing on the product itself. I'm just terrified I've messed something up, and I don't want us to discover this after you've paid for it.

A few notes:

At least it's not an Imprinted onesie )

@Salome: @cleolinda So OF COURSE they have these personalize-your-own vampire books... http://www.bookbyyou.com/teen/default.asp

Oh my God, this is mortifying. I am totally going to fill it out now )

I seem to have come down with a nasty stomach bug--the kind where you have those sporadic clutching pains--and so we're just going to put Secret Life off until Saturday. I'm in pain and surviving on toast and Coke at the moment, and it took me two hours to put this entry together. We'll make it through somehow.

Meanwhile, I don't think I'll be tweeting Varney the Vampire anymore. Some people loved it; others were annoyed. However, when I have more time, I might recap it properly (although quickly, because it gets incredibly paid-by-the-word repetitive).

I don't know when the new Made of Fail will be up, but [livejournal.com profile] queenanthai points out that it's nominated at podcastawards.com in the Cultural/Arts section.

Speaking of the new episode, Mark (who is on it) is now watching Firefly, reading The Hunger Games, and rereading Harry Potter.

Speaking of Harry Potter, there's a new Tonner Q&A up in which we are given hope for a Tonks doll. You put some changeable wigs on it, and I'll be all over that. Maybe. In a theoretical world where I have a money tree. Also: we're back to an affirmative on the Eowyn doll, which I at least want to see.

Also, briefly:

Veteran comic actor Leslie Nielsen, 84, has died in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner dies in LA at 87.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host Oscars.

Ian McKellen is back on aboard The Hobbit, thank Eru.

New preview for HBO's "Game of Thrones."

And finally: The Spider-Man musical on Broadway--now in mishap-filled previews--is "one of the most face-meltingly insane live spectacles I've ever witnessed."

Oh, oh! I don't think I mentioned this earlier--Bill Condon decided to troll Twilight fandom with the first image from Breaking Dawn, to the general confusion of mainstream movie news sites. I have a horrible feeling that the bruises have been photoshopped out.

cleolinda: (black ribbon2)
From Saturday: New Secret Life of Dolls, in which a sparklepire finds out exactly for whom the bell tolls. Looking at my calendar, I'm thinking we'll have the next installment on Saturday (as usual), and then we'll skip the next week, because that's Harry Potter and I have a podcast to do on Saturday and I don't think anyone will be paying attention to anything else anyway. Unless there are unexpectedly high number of Potter non-fans here who want counter-programming?

Meanwhile, I fell into a gigantic plot hole over the weekend and realized that the central premise of the first half of the novel (the first Black Ribbon novel) doesn't make any sense. I won't get into specifics, but it came down to an anguished writer-wail of "Wait--but--why wouldn't he tell her? OH, FFFFFFFFF--"

The thing is, I'd been sitting there trying to jam together puzzle pieces that didn't fit for--I don't know, months, probably. I just kept telling myself that I had all these nice, shiny scenes I had created--some of them independent of the others--and that if I just thought about it hard enough, my Powers of Logic would force them into place. And then I finally ran into the one failure of logic that made the whole thing collapse. So I'm opening a fresh Word document (I save every variation of everything, so it's not like I lose anything by experimenting) and just talking it out. So far, it's... actually going really well. I got something like 4000 words done today, and about 2000 on Saturday. It's kind of liberating, in fact, to just be like, "Fuck it, I'll just start over." I mean, there are older bits that will get absorbed into the new as I go. But at least I'm not trying to pound the same square pegs into round plot holes anymore. So... I've got that going for me, I guess.

We here at Casa de Cleo are all cranky just now, because my mother had a really terrible day working-at-home on Friday that involved a lot of wailing "WHY ARE THEY SO STUPID" into her phone for about four hours straight; my stepfather has split his tooth in half (but has no idea how), and there's a lot of pain and swelling; and Friday the 13th basically shat on my head like an incontinent pigeon, but without any of the "luck" that supposedly brings.

However, no matter what happens to us, we still don't have it as bad as Edward Fashion Cat.

My first reaction to this was to scream and close the browser (this is my reaction to about 65% of links people send me). Then I opened it again (this is my reaction to about 83% of that 65%) and laughed my ass off. I want to feel sorry for this cat, but--look at him work that shit! Please.

However, the longer I laughed looked at it, the more questions I had. How does one measure a cat for a tiny jacket, and how many people die in the process? How does one keep a (rather amazing) wig on its head? Where does one buy wigs for cats?

Over the next 24 hours, I was able to answer at least two of these questions: ETA: It got worse )

Speaking of Tonners and Twilight, Alice Dollen starts shipping on Monday (8/16). Alice Dollen is not shipping to me on 8/16, but maybe I can get her for Christmas. My point is, Tonner Alices are now at large in the world, or will be next week.

@Ceilidhann: @cleolinda Does the Tonner Alice try and dress you up instead of the other way round?

There's only one way to find out.
