Remember the Wicked Pretty Things debacle? Of course you do. Jessica Verday has now decided what to do with the story she refused to straightwash: "I'm extremely grateful to be able to say that my short story 'Flesh Which Is Not Flesh' (Cameron and Wesley's story) is now available as an eBook on Amazon, and from now through August 31, 50% of the proceeds from this story will go to the Living Beyond Tolerance scholarship. I'm hoping we can meet that $200 goal. Exceed it even. Perhaps $500? $1,000?" She also says that the scholarship is "for someone who is LGBT or an Ally and is doing something to make sure everyone is accepted, not just tolerated."

In case you missed it: The Secret Life of Dolls (the Dire Capybara seems to have been a big hit).

I'm still mulling over That Which We Do Not Speak Of, which we might as well Speak Of because we all know I'm doing it. There's basically two movie franchises that I'm locked into until the bitter end, and Harry Potter is one of them. The problem is that the first Deathly Hallows movie is pretty serious without being mock-worthily srs bsns, so I'm having trouble with it. However, I think I have found--not a gimmick, exactly, but an angle to approach it from.

Meanwhile, we had a lot of fun recording the podcast on Saturday. Since he mentioned it too, I'll go ahead and say that Mark (who is now Reading The Hunger Games) was our guest. I was the Temporary Guest Hosting for Dayna, which was a lot of fun, but I don't think there's any danger of anyone wanting me as a permanent replacement; it's like having two kinds of salt on the table instead of salt and pepper. ANYWAY MY POINT IS not to make you think it'll be a boring show, my point is GET EXCITE.

The title of this entry, by the way, refers to this:

It's really happening: Warner Brothers reboots Buffy The Vampire Slayer without Joss Whedon [Please God No]. "Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be." Have the riots started yet?

The rest of the linkspam? Is all Grade A.

First of all: in case you missed it, since I did post on a Saturday when everyone was out actually doing things, there is a new Secret Life of Dolls. And bless y'all for actually commenting on the "Explain what you like about Secret Life" entry; I didn't think you'd actually do it. I was hoping for maybe a couple of quotes I could use in the future, not 100+ comments. Bless. So I have now written the next four entries (you can see some of the titles here; two of them are just too spoilery to post), and I'll have to take pictures, but I hope we can get to #78 by Halloween, and since they're drafted, I don't see any reason why (OH GOD DON'T LET THE HOUSE BURN DOWN) we can't.

Meanwhile, I was extremely productive yesterday because my internet connection decided to hate me. Over and over and over again. As such, there was no linkspam. But a few key things happened, and I would like to mention them briefly and then catch other things later tonight or tomorrow: IT'S REALLY HAPPENING )

Did not feel well today. Slept. Blarg.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT YESTERDAY: Deathly Hallows trailer omg.

A light linkspam, but with several key items:

Kimberly Peirce to Direct Wicked Lovely. MOAR )

My next task for the evening is to see if current household logistics will permit location shooting. I also probably need to update the readthrough backlog. There are those of you who will know what this means.

So I had to go to the DMV to renew my driver's license today, except that it's not a driver's license, it's a driver's permit (it looks exactly the same, except there are two "exception" codes on the back. A: Corrective lenses and Y: Not a license. Oh. You know. That), because I can't drive, because I get panic attacks, because I'm a neurotic loser, so on and so forth. For the last fifteen years, the Alabama Department of Motor Vehicles has peaceably taken my money and renewed it without question. Except... this time. And somehow, going in, I knew they wouldn't renew it. Somehow, I knew.

And it was, in fact, exactly as humiliating as I expected. Read more... )

Later this week: bloodwork. I'm afraid of what's going to show up in it, although it's on the order of my psych doctor, basically to rule out a few things, not omg you have all the cancers. I'm still afraid of what might turn up. Like, you know, full-blown diabetes, which runs in the family and I'm at risk for. I mean, obviously, whatever turns up is something I already have, not something the bloodwork bestows upon me, so just refusing to find out isn't going to help. However, I also have a deep fear of needles--this may squick you out, depending on your own issues )

So. Bloodwork. Later this week.

P.S. No one can ever find my veins.

But so help me God, I have a state ID, which is good because I need a drink.

I am waiting for a professional do you like me yes/no/maybe check one answer right now, and I am not doing a very good job of not driving my friends and family crazy with my Eeyore stoicism and nervous upset stomach. I have also broken out with strange rosacea-like blargh across my cheeks, because my body likes to think of new and interesting ways to rebel every time I intellectually compartmentalize anxiety and pretend it's not there, but this is still better than that GIGANTIC HEINOUS FEVER BLISTER I got on my lip when Mom went into surgery. (Anxiety I calmly refuse to acknowledge has, over the years, also chosen to express itself as dizzy spells, blood pressure spikes, severe fatigue, nausea, facial blemishes, and, on occasion, boils. I am hoping none of the other plagues of Egypt show up.)

Meanwhile! As I am waiting! We have many things to discuss.

My sister has a new cat, and his name is Jackson. (ETA: My sister does not have a new cat here.) picture )

There is a new Made of Fail episode up.

Also, a Help Pakistan fandom auction (I heard something to the effect that 20% of the country is underwater?).

Mark is now three chapters into Order of the Phoenix.

Stephen Fry is... on his way to Mobile, Alabama? I don't even know.

Entertainment linkspam! Man, it's nice when I can keep reasonably on top of this stuff and not spam you with a Wall o' Text. In which things get scary IRL )

You haven't heard from me much because I have been really, deeply, severely depressed for the last couple of weeks. I tried to write up a huge entry describing what it feels like, and then... I got too depressed to post it. Maybe I'll polish it up and post it later, because I think it might be valuable for 1) people who might recognize themselves in it and 2) people who don't have depression, but want to understand what it's like for a loved one who does.

Data storage question, writing, Black Ribbon, aromatherapy, BPAL )

Anyway. That's what's going on over here.

Reminder: The Final Lostnesday is on Sunday, and it's going to be a huge Super Bowl/Oscars-esque thing with a pre-show and then a 2-1/2 hour episode and then a Jimmy Kimmel post-show with the actors (and alternate endings? I don't know if these are parodies or real). I would love to liveblog it, but honestly, I'd rather actually pay attention.

I have a couple of other things to discuss, but I think they'd get lost in the rambling here, so: we'll do that later.

Okay, so I have lost track of how many episodes we have until THE FINAL LOSTNESDAY (WHICH IS ACTUALLY A SUNDAY), and I'm not sure what this one's about, except that I hear it's about the Man in Black. Faux Locke (Flocke). Mock Locke (Mocke). UnLocke. Smokey. Esau, as some have so cleverly named him. Puffy, as Terry O'Quinn calls him, which I really wish I had found out about sooner because that is AWESOME. I don't know how many answers we're supposed to get this week; all I know is that, after last week, I'm a little scared of what they might be.

Meanwhile, every Lost finale party should involve paparazzi, fraud, and a manhole.

YOU GUYS

I just saw this and I am so blown away by it that I up and ran to Semagic JUST TO POST A LIVEJOURNAL ENTRY FOR IT:

Paul W.S. Anderson Casts His 'Three Musketeers.' Okay, stand back. Are you ready for this? I don't think you're ready for this. Here we go:

Logan Lerman will play D'Artagnan, the young man who leaves home to join France's elite fighting force, and gets hooked up with the three titular musketeers. Porthos, Athos, and Aramis will be played by Ray Stevenson (one of my very favorites, and the perfect Porthos), Matthew MacFadyen, and Luke Evans, respectively.

It's the villains who will have film geeks really lining up, though. Everyone's favorite Nazi, Christoph Waltz, will be playing the dastardly Cardinal Richelieu, and Mads Mikkelsen will be playing Rochefort. Orlando Bloom has been offered the part of the Duke of Buckingham, but has not yet accepted. Of course, since this is an Anderson movie, Milla Jovovich has nabbed a part. She'll be playing Milady de Winter, whom Anderson describes as "a 17th century Bond girl." Er, I guess.

POW.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to catch up with Made of Fail, which has just come out with Episode Twenty-Nine: If you liked it, you should have put a Power Ring on it. I think this is the one with Lewis Lovhaug (aka Linkara) (again). I listened to about three different shows yesterday, so I'm not sure which came out when anymore. I believe I will be on the July episode; the next one will be Dayna having a meltdown over the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, IIRC, and then there's the June anniversary ep (which I might be on, albeit briefly? I don't know?). So there's that.

More linkspam! )
