And it is here. Keep in mind that this isn't the entire spring line, but still, I was hoping to see an Eowyn; no luck. And no preview of the Marvel character figures, either. Instead, what we got was... well.

The Vampire Diaries: Tonner Ian Somerhalder. This is a thing that's happening. Read more... )

Oh my Lorrrrrrd. I usually wake up--without needing an alarm, no less--somewhere in the vicinity of 6:20-6:40 am, and I get up and haul Lizzie downstairs and get breakfast and let the dogs outside, and so I'm well settled in by the time my mother leaves for work an hour later. Today, she woke me up at quarter of eight. I then passed out on the couch until 9:15 am, at which point I could finally raise my head high enough to attempt sustenance. I've been conscious since then, but just barely. In fact, I keep nodding off right where I'm sitting for two-minute micronaps. The massive headache isn't helping. I've had an upset stomach for a few days now (long story, but it's not a big deal. It happens from time to time), and it kept me up all night, which I think is part of it. But I'm also stiff and achy. I don't know if I'm coming down with something or what. Because it's not like I had some kind of partyriffic Memorial Day. I didn't even have so much as a Woodchuck. I did go to see Prince of Persia, but I didn't even have a headache afterwards. Apparently I have a delayed hangover from Jake Gyllenhaal's abs or something.

(I don't have a whole lot of thoughts on Prince of Persia, but only because I feel like hell. I would have more thoughts if I felt better. It was at least as good as Clash of the Titans, and probably better, although not as unintentionally funny. Gemma Arterton again, though! I like her. She pretty. And I like when she explains things in mystically plummy tones. If Tonner upgraded their Tamina doll to her full princess outfit at the beginning, I would buy the shit out of that. And Jake Gyllenhaal brought a pleasing combination of parkour and puppy-dog eyes. It's not the greatest movie in the world, and I still want to know why they couldn't just hire darker-skinned actors rather than tan up the ones they did have, but it's pretty, and I've paid to see worse.)

Speaking of microsleep (it's a topic!), the new Made of Fail podcast is up; the gang discusses the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, and DC comics writer Sterling Gates is also on hand to talk about Supergirl and War of the Supermen.

Also, there seems to be a shakeup in Middle-earth: Guillermo del Toro quits 'Hobbit' film over delays; Peter Jackson Might Direct The Hobbit… Only If He's Allowed; Hollywood Ink: No, Peter Jackson Won't Take Over The Hobbit.

I am hideously late on mentioning this, and I'm not sure how it slipped my mind when I meant to post it last week: remember the United Airlines thing? Well, they're still being vile. Here's the part that is diabolically brilliant, in my opinion, and was only thwarted because [livejournal.com profile] evilpuppy paid closer attention than a lot of people would:

Now, I DID receive the check [to cover taxi expenses] she mentioned, however, there was something printed above the endorsement line that stopped me from cashing it.

"Endorsement of this check is in full settlement and release of all claims that payee has asserted or may assert against United Airlines, it's connecting carriers, agents, and employees for loss, damages or delay arising from any UA Flight or the airwaybill associated with this claim."

Really? Really?

... Oh dear.

I forgot to mention it the other day, but they also came out with Tonner Mal and Convention-Only Inara, plus a couple of convention-only steampunk Ellowynes.

YOU GUYS

I just saw this and I am so blown away by it that I up and ran to Semagic JUST TO POST A LIVEJOURNAL ENTRY FOR IT:

Paul W.S. Anderson Casts His 'Three Musketeers.' Okay, stand back. Are you ready for this? I don't think you're ready for this. Here we go:

Logan Lerman will play D'Artagnan, the young man who leaves home to join France's elite fighting force, and gets hooked up with the three titular musketeers. Porthos, Athos, and Aramis will be played by Ray Stevenson (one of my very favorites, and the perfect Porthos), Matthew MacFadyen, and Luke Evans, respectively.

It's the villains who will have film geeks really lining up, though. Everyone's favorite Nazi, Christoph Waltz, will be playing the dastardly Cardinal Richelieu, and Mads Mikkelsen will be playing Rochefort. Orlando Bloom has been offered the part of the Duke of Buckingham, but has not yet accepted. Of course, since this is an Anderson movie, Milla Jovovich has nabbed a part. She'll be playing Milady de Winter, whom Anderson describes as "a 17th century Bond girl." Er, I guess.

POW.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to catch up with Made of Fail, which has just come out with Episode Twenty-Nine: If you liked it, you should have put a Power Ring on it. I think this is the one with Lewis Lovhaug (aka Linkara) (again). I listened to about three different shows yesterday, so I'm not sure which came out when anymore. I believe I will be on the July episode; the next one will be Dayna having a meltdown over the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, IIRC, and then there's the June anniversary ep (which I might be on, albeit briefly? I don't know?). So there's that.

More linkspam! )

So... The Werewolf Book is... not turning out well. I'm gonna read the whole thing because I paid for it, dammit, but it's not my top reading priority anymore. Jack the Ripper is! )

Meanwhile, I'm going to cut the emails off at the pass:

Robert is bothered that Robert Is Bothered. Also, he will be on the Daily Show tonight. This fills me with an unholy glee I have not felt since Neil Gaiman was on the Colbert Report.

WHAT IN THE SWEET NAME OF FUCK OH GOD MADAME TUSSAUD NO. Was the Museum Quality Head not enough? WHY. I should admit here that wax museums completely freak me out. I have a number of irrationally particular phobias (an airline losing my luggage, eyeballs being injured or even touched, the humiliation of other people who are themselves incapable of feeling embarrassment, the mustache of Salvador Dali), and wax museums are one of them. They just feel so wrong to me. I was weirded out by the Clan Brangelina figures and I'm weirded out by this. So very very much.

(Place your bets now: will it take more or less than three days for this thing to be mangled, stolen, or otherwise compromised by rampaging fangirls? I'm putting five bucks on two.)

Okay, I think we need to have a little night linkspam. I admit, these are cherry-picked from my Twitter page (which you can read whether you're on Twitter or not), but I'm still trying to get back on my feet and/or normal work schedule. I also have a more expansive raw linkspam feed from my Google Reader on FriendFeed. (I've always had that, in fact.) So you see, the thing is, I'm reading the news; I just haven't been posting it all here as a list. Which I should, because it's fun. I'm just... tired and out of sorts, and have been for a long time now.

Short version: Yes, I heard about the dippy Twilight fan and/or brilliant troll who thinks that The Wolfman ripped off New Moon.

Short version ETA: Yes, I heard about the handmade emo-scented Twilight vulva soap. No, I'm not linking to it. Y'all a bunch of handcrafty trolls over there at Etsy, for real.

Long version: Read more... )

Just a few things, but the Watchmen opening credits are online, and there's also a headline containing the phrase "Gambit UNF UNF UNF." Enjoy.
