Feeling kind of mellow and silly
Apr. 15th, 2009 08:25 pm... which could probably change on a dime.
First off--had a couple of requests to talk about saving the show Chuck:
library_of_sex says, "There's the usual letter-writing campaign and voting at E!Online's Save One Show, but there's also the Finale and Footlong, involving Subway, a big sponsor of the show," and
foresthouse has more ideas here.
Oh, by the way: super cute charm necklaces. I have the Love Letter (wearing it right now, actually) and the Chat Noir.

From
mercuryandrain: "I was wondering if you could do me a HUGE favor and plug the Support Stacie auction sometime this week in one of your linkspam posts? Stacie is fighting high stage III breast cancer without the help of health insurance. This coming weekend (April third through sixth) a multi-fandom fanfic auction is taking place - people will bid on their favorite authors, and the highest bidder gets a story tailor-made to their specifications. Over 100 authors are participating at last count, from Roswell, Twilight, Dr. Who, Gilmore Girls and Harry Potter among other fandoms. Her website is http://www.supportstacie.net, and the website where the auction will take place is http://www.majiksfanfic.com/phpbb. There is also an LJ comm dedicated to the cause:

countessmary has put up (with my blessing) some "Twilight Means Never Having to Say You're Kidding" t-shirts to raise money for prizes for the YA Lit track at Dragon*Con.
The Littlest Edward is famous! And I mentioned this the other day somewhere--Twitter?--but while we're here: Biker Barbie with pink chaps. Ya rly.
Also, I have to show you this, because it brought light and joy into my life: VAMPIRE CLOAKS FOR DOLLS OMG. THE ALL-BLACK ONE HAS A COLLAR LIKE A BATWING OR A SPIDERWEB OR SOME SHIT, LOOK AT THAT! OMFG A BLACK POET SHIRT, I CAN'T STAND IT. It's like what Bella would make Edward wear if she felt kinky or something.

And now, maybe I can get a bit more done before the power goes off tomorrow.

Catchup, but a good one, I think
Mar. 24th, 2009 07:38 pmRe: This morning's Secret Life of Dolls: There was an alternate picture I didn't post that might explain what was going on in the photos a bit better--the second one was actually supposed to be The Littlest Edward complaining ("IT'S INDECENT!," etc.) from "my" perspective sitting there at my desk. Also, Serafina's pose was supposed to look like this, only I couldn't quite get her legs to cooperate, so it ended up looking like more of a pinup pose (not unfittingly). And in case you were wondering how inadequately clothed Eva Green!Serafina tended to look in the movie, here you are.
Meanwhile, my mother watched the Twilight DVD the other night--I've gotten through most of the extras--and asked if I could find her sheet music for "that song Edward Cullen plays on the piano." (She used to love playing the piano and wants to get back to it.) "I know it isn't really him playing it in the movie," she assured me for some reason. "No, it's him," I said (deciding to give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't think that Actual Edward Cullen had somehow been magicked into existence for the purpose of filming a movie), "the actor's also a musician." "HE IS?" she cried. "I REALLY like him now!"
It's happened. I can't deny it anymore. She's a Twimom. I facepalmed.
( Easily skippable Twilight stuff, since we're here )

Among the many:
Ralph Fiennes (Richardson's costar in Maid in Manhattan and The White Countess)
"For everyone who knew and loved her, Natasha's death is a terrible, devastating loss. She was a star. A great actress, a beautiful woman, a fiercely loyal friend, a brilliant and generous companion. She was an adoring and loving wife and mother. She was unique. My thoughts and prayers go out to Liam and her beautiful sons, Micheál and Danny and to all her family. I cannot imagine a world without her wit, her love, her mischief, her great, great talent and her gift for living. I loved her very much. She was a supreme friend. I shall miss her deeply."
Helen Mirren (Richardson's costar in The Comfort of Strangers)
"Natasha was a great actress, a fantastic mother, a loving wife and a whirlwind of energy, with an infectious love of life expressed firstly by her wonderful deep laugh. Anyone who knew her will be in mourning today. I hope that Liam and her sons are helped in their pain by the great love and sympathy that is coming to them from people all over the world."
Meryl Streep (Richardson's costar in Evening)
"Tash was the warm sun in the center of a large constellation of family, friends, all of those lucky enough to know her. She is irreplaceable in our lives; she gave us so much, so generously. Her legacy is the love that connects us all."

Odds and ends
Feb. 16th, 2009 08:14 pmMore pictures of Alice Dollen! She is, in fact, wearing slippers, since someone asked. And the date on her card says only "2009," woe.
(OMG YOU GUYS! THE YELLOW BARBIE CORVETTE I HAD AS A KID! omg. We gave all our Barbie stuff away when I was in college and my sister was in her early teens. If I went out and bought another one for Alice, no matter how cheap, thereby bringing MOAR CLUTTER into the house, my mother would kill me.)

Several things
Feb. 5th, 2009 09:14 pm1) Well then. Yesterday's entry certainly set my inbox on fire.
2) Speaking of inboxes, if you've direct-messaged me here on LJ recently and I didn't reply, you will probably want to check and make sure that you don't have the privacy option enabled, which means that I can't send you a message back.
3) If you were interested in Melissa's Harry, A History signing at NYCC, I double-checked, and you will be able buy the book while you're there.
4) I was reading "The Great God Pan" last night, and then I reread Stephen King's story "N.," and he mentions in the afterword/notes that most horror writers (of which I consider myself one, to some extent) end up taking on the theme of the world being "thin" in places, places thin enough to glimpse unspeakable horrors. After a little thought, I realized that this idea doesn't actually appeal to me all that much, and that I tend to think of reality as a very thick place, actually--so thick and gnarled and crannied, like an old house or a hollow tree, that you never quite know what might be lurking in the corners. But I still think of it all as being on the same plane, just full of... nooks.
5) I had a really weird dream this morning that involved people having a partyinvading spilling into my backyard, and then a frontal assault from a bunch of schoolchildren in the front yard who all had to go to the bathroom and their teacher-nuns (long grey dresses. I don't know) let them into my house (which was suddenly a mansion) without asking me, and I was really, REALLY concerned that they were going to steal all my jewelry. Apparently I have boundary issues at this time.
6) Today's Snack Deathmatch: honey roasted peanuts vs. salted cashews. I'm more of an almond/hazelnut girl myself, but my stepfather is definitely a cashew man.

Because I don't want to fall behind again
Jan. 16th, 2009 07:46 pmSick today. Not badly, just enough to feel dizzy and crummy and not make a lot of sense when I tried to talk to people. And it was only a little congestion at that--possibly I didn't notice it because (sorry, mild TMI) the crud was oozing down my throat, which was then sore, rather than staying in my head.
(Heather C.--thank you so much! The packing slip referred to two packages? The one today had books in it?)

Wow, did I not think of a title?
Dec. 4th, 2008 06:13 pmOkay, first of all, OUR LONG INTERNATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER: JKR/WB vs RDR Books Trial: RDR Books Withdraws Appeal.
Second of all: Holy shit, Edward Dollen really does look like David Boreanaz.
Third: For people wondering about what the hell's up with the Bella doll, this is the outfit she's wearing. You only see the peasant blouse in the hotel scene because she's got the jacket zipped up after that. And the doll's actually wearing the brown jacket from another scene (this one. Look at the cuffs). Look, I don't actually care what she's wearing--
padawansguide and I just geek out over costumes like whoa on her site sometimes, so I'm used to scrutinizing tiny details like a nutbar. People were just asking, is all.
Fourth: An email conversation I just had with my mother, who is apparently way more invested in the situation than I had dreamed: ( Read more... )
And for folks a little lost with the whole Secret Life of Dolls thing, there's some background and a chronological list of entries over here (after a little housekeeping to get the list up to date).

Squeezing in right under the deadline
Dec. 3rd, 2008 11:43 pmWhoa. I lay down and closed my eyes for a few moments after dinner, and suddenly it was 10 pm.
Okay--I don't want to name names, but one of the movie sites I use for news items keeps saying things like, "GOD, I am so not interested in this movie AT ALL, it looks so boring and not good and it won't make any money anyway. Here is a trailer, two video clips and a gallery of three dozen pictures." For every other movie. Do you like doing this job or not? Be catty, even, but don't just piss and moan about how you don't care about anything on the market right as you deign to give us the promotional material. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the fact that I do this for fun and I don't have to talk about something if I don't want to--I don't give damn #1 about the Transformers franchise, for example, but I can just include "New Transformers clips" in a list and move on with my life with a minimum of moanage and pissation. Or maybe it's just that--well, I think "enthusiasm" might be counted as one of my most vivid personality traits, so I just don't understand how you can post about movie after movie with "God, this is so stupid and I don't care." At least put your back into some snark, man!
Anyway. ( Linkspam )

Where did my evening go?
Nov. 18th, 2008 10:18 pmWelcome, MSNBC readers! This is the kind of entry I wrote--still do, obviously--before Twilight ate my brain. I also post the occasional movie parody at
m15m and put out a book of them overseas a couple of years ago. (Yes, I have promised to write "Twilight in Fifteen Minutes" or die trying.) Feel free to friend the journal, comment or lurk as you please, and enjoy your stay!
(Uh, y'all? I went back and looked at one of my old entries, and... the userpic wasn't mine. I'm not even sure who was in the picture. It seems to have eaten my favorite Reiko Shimizu icon--I think I've heard about this kind of glitch before? I'm just saying... if you see an icon that looks out of the ordinary for my style... that's why. It's a glitch. I don't usually have guys in my icons, for example.)
(It might have been Jackson Rathbone? Even Livejournal glitches know that I write about Twilight? I'm kind of scared now?)
I keep meaning to post variations on this story and forget, so: Ancient Vampire Killing Kit Sells For 15K. (How is the garlic still fresh?) For those of y'all who remember the Black Ribbon novel I'm still working on--man, I would love one of those.

Thursday evening, breezy
Apr. 17th, 2008 05:01 pmMuch quieter today. Tried to get some rest today so that I can annotate tonight--fewer distractions at night, plus I'm not away from the internet (which I need for many of the notes and citations themselves). Last I heard from Sister Girl, she was at the Vosges store in NYC, but it was too loud to hear her over the phone. Not much else going on, really.
