1) Full list here.

2) Yeah, they're doing ten Best Picture nominees this year. I remember the Academy president saying, when they announced this change a few months ago, something to the effect of, "If I said this had nothing to do with The Dark Knight [not getting nominated last year], I'd be lying." So they're trying to be... more inclusive this year, because the big studios get pissed when they do put out genuinely good movies that then get snubbed in favor of blatant Oscarbait that doesn't really hold up a few years later. (Remember a couple of years ago on Extras, when Ricky Gervais told Kate Winslet that she'd need to play a Nazi if she actually wanted to win?)

3) THE BLIND SIDE FOR BEST PICTURE, WHAT THE FUCK?

A conversation I just had with my mother, who loves Sandra Bullock (aw, she's nice) and football (GRARRRRR):

"THE BLIND SIDE? WHAT."

"Well, when that many people see a movie..."

"But that doesn't mean it's GOOD."

"It IS good."

"You don't know! You didn't see it!"

"I saw enough of it!"

"ON COMMERCIALS!"

P.S. Two reminders: the book episode (listener recommendations, plus Discworld discussion) of Made of Fail (guest: NADWCon co-runner [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse!) is up; and also TONIGHT IS LOSTNESDAY.

... which could probably change on a dime.

First off--had a couple of requests to talk about saving the show Chuck: [livejournal.com profile] library_of_sex says, "There's the usual letter-writing campaign and voting at E!Online's Save One Show, but there's also the Finale and Footlong, involving Subway, a big sponsor of the show," and [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse has more ideas here.

Oh, by the way: super cute charm necklaces. I have the Love Letter (wearing it right now, actually) and the Chat Noir.

Early linkspam so I can go take some pictures for something I'm a bit behind on posting. Cough.

Re: the previous post: Okay, you know me. I love me some Tonners. That is not a factory fresh "original" Tonner Jacob. Now that I've gotten a good look at it, you can't convince me that it is. I know for a fact that the other two are repaints, because I know what the originals look like. That is just not a Tonner paint job, and you cannot tell me otherwise. ETA: Aha! Solved.

The new Made of Fail podcast is up, for real this time.

I'm starting to think my constant snivellous snerf is allergies rather than some kind of cold, because it's a persistent, low-grade annoyance. Fnarr.

Meanwhile, the fan failure issue seemed to have been fixed by pulling clots of dust out of the back of the CPU; the system battery's still an issue, but I've talked to a few people, and apparently it's going to involve me going to Wal-Mart and buying a CMOS battery the size of a dime, no big hassle. So I'm working on the computer downstairs during the day to buy a little more time until I get out to do errands on Friday, and when I change out the battery, I'll vacuum can-of-air the inside of the CPU.

Also, activities on The Shelf are continuing, but I don't want to burn everyone out on that, so we'll hold off on updates for now. Although if you have icon requests, let me know, because I think I'm going to kill some time doing those tonight.

Made Of Fail - Episode 13: And That's When the Internet Exploded. Unless there's been a change of plans, I'm scheduled to go on their next podcast to discuss Watchmen (THREEPEAT GUEST, WOO!).

Trufax: I was talking to my sister's boyfriend--we really need to come up with a code name for him, Sister Girl and I decided, but we don't know what yet--on Sunday and he mentioned the Twilight Tonner dolls. Apparently when I was all like YOU GUYS GO TO THE TONNER NYCC BOOTH AND JUST, LIKE... LOOK AT THEM OR SOMETHING FOR ME earlier this month, he did, and he was like, "Who's in charge here? Can we buy 400 of those for our stores?" And the Tonner people were like, "Uh... YES." Apparently it had never occurred to anyone to sell actual dolls at bookstores, even though their rival Borders has been selling the action figures and all the Hot Topic crap. So, uh... if you happen to be at a Books-a-Million and you see the Tonners there as an in-store exclusive, that's... kind of because one of their buyers has a not-quite sister-in-law who's a Crazy Doll Lady. *cough* I mean, I asked Sister Girl, and she said, "No, it totally would have been because of you, that's how he would have heard about the dolls in the first place," although of course he was the one smart enough to actually come up with the idea and get them for the stores.

And the other thing is... I don't have anything solid enough to repeat on this, but they might give Books-a-Million some kind of holiday exclusive, I don't know. It might simply be that Tonner's going to put out more stuff for the holidays, as they do, and Books-a-Million will be the only bookstore selling it, who knows.

Meanwhile, I am TIRED of this head cold. It's just bad enough to make me feel groggy and snerfy, but not bad enough to GET ON WITH IT.

Also: Remind me to tell you about the Bowl of Galadriel. Again. Uh... tomorrow. Like I said: I'm a bit behind.

This head cold is driving me crazy--of course, I have the luxury of saying that because it's not very bad. It's the kind of light cold where you sit around moaning all day that man, there is just nothing worse than a stubbed toe, you know? Because you've forgotten what a real knock-you-down bug feels like, you've forgotten anything but the thickish head and the slight sinus pressure and the developing cough and the constant frog in your throat right now. I have had chills pretty bad (no fever, though) and a good bit of fatigue, to the point where I spent half the day in a couch coma and the other half cheerfully on Twitter. Which I'm sure impresses no one.

From [livejournal.com profile] wolfsilveroak: "Hey, check out this Etsy shop. It was set up expressly for the Aussie Bushfires. So far, they've raised $12,000 in Australian funds. 100% of the proceeds goes to fire relief and they have free international shipping." Also, from [livejournal.com profile] sailorcoruscant: "One of my favourite yarn stores in Victoria is asking for people to knit squares that she will make into blankets for the victims." And from [livejournal.com profile] alexthedevil: "A reporter's tale of surviving the fire - 'How we cheated the flames of death.' "

I... have no good segue from that! Snack Deathmatch! Peanut butter cups vs. red licorice.

(Note: Much of the news, even the movie news, is toy-oriented because it's being reported from Toy Fair. So... that's what's up with that.)

The linkspam is medium-sized today, which is good because I feel weirdly tired. Again.

Comic-Con! From which my sister emailed a picture of Edward Dollen! ([livejournal.com profile] foresthouse also texted a pic of both the Dollens, although my failsauce phone promptly ate it. She did add, however, that "the hair is on high alert.") And then my sister reported, "Also they are knighting Jedi." I don't know if she means that the Dollens were knighting Jedi or... what.

MOAR! A Sneak Preview of Pixar's Up, which will be shown again to the public tomorrow night; Nerd Alert: The New York Comic Con (a photo gallery mostly of babes); The Ten Most Expensive Comic Books at New York Comic Con.

Today's Snack Deathmatch: Sun Chips vs. Pirate's Booty.

Christian Bale apologizes, says "Feel free to make fun of me at my expense; I deserve it completely"! The internet will be happy to take you up on this, I am sure! Actor Bale: 'I acted like a punk'; A Repentant Christian Bale Asks: 'Have You Ever Had a Bad Day?'; Why Do We Tolerate Men Who Throw Tantrums? Because we're afraid that if we stand up to them, everyone else will just brush us aside and we'll get yelled at more? "It's always like that around here"? "That's just how the world works"? I don't know, you tell me.

MOAR! )

ETA: Aaaaand people in the comments are already coming back from Coraline and loving it. I'm just telling you.
