Feeling kind of mellow and silly
Apr. 15th, 2009 08:25 pm... which could probably change on a dime.
First off--had a couple of requests to talk about saving the show Chuck:
library_of_sex says, "There's the usual letter-writing campaign and voting at E!Online's Save One Show, but there's also the Finale and Footlong, involving Subway, a big sponsor of the show," and
foresthouse has more ideas here.
Oh, by the way: super cute charm necklaces. I have the Love Letter (wearing it right now, actually) and the Chat Noir.

Date: 2009-04-16 02:43 am (UTC)I had always thought that the bear in Robin Hood looked suspiciously like Baloo, though. I think that it all mostly amounts to they had virtually no production time for Robin Hood. Because they reused SO MUCH.
Also, Snow White (and thus Maid Marian) clap like Paula Abdul.
And whatever that scene of animals chasing after that piece of paper is - we briefly see a mouse with a mustache who looks mighty similar to Flaversham (the toy-tinker mouse) from The Great Mouse Detective.

Also also: I love Mike Nelson forever. I knew there was a reason to keep my Twilight DVD after I got tired/embarassed of it.

Date: 2009-04-16 03:10 am (UTC)All I care is, Alan Menken and Howard Ashman and that giant, epic cast are fucking amazing, and they will probably change it to such a degree it will be barely the same story.
Also, they will probably use CGI, and nothing, I mean NOTHING stands up to the amazingness that is the Audrey II puppets.

Date: 2009-04-16 04:25 am (UTC)Except that this is going to be a remake of the 1960 film that the musical version is based on. They're quite different. I mean, the plots are very, very close but they're not exact.
For instance, in the original:
1. Seymour actually creates Audrey Jr. (Audrey II was the musical's name)
2. Seymour lives with his hypochondriac mother and Audrey is Mushnik's daughter. And while there is a sadistic dentist, he's a minor character and Audrey never even meets him--and she definitely doesn't date him.
3. Mushnik sees Seymour feeding someone to the plant early on so he secretly knows what's going on the whole time and never gets eaten. In fact he tricks a burglar into feeding himself to the plant at one point.
4. And while Seymour eventually gets eaten by the plant while trying to destroy it (in a really stupid way), the plant never even attempts to eat Audrey.
The musical is much better, in every way. The original was, after all, literally written in a day--and maybe filmed in two at the most. (Roger Corman had a set that was going to be torn down and wanted to save money by making another movie on it first) Of course, the original does feature a young Jack Nicholson as the masochistic dental patient--which is probably the highlight of the film.

Date: 2009-04-16 04:14 am (UTC)And I'm really skeptical about a Little Shop of Horrors remake. It can't be better than the musical (even if test audiences ruined the musical's ending by being whiny little bastards) and I'm not entirely sure if it could better than the original or not.
The original film was written in a day and shot in maybe two. So an improvement is possible, but I dread the use of modern special effects. The original film had charming cheap-ass puppets and the musical has some of the best animatronics work I've ever seen.
I feel certain any version today will have CGI effects. I don't look forward to that.
Still, I must admit i'm curious--and I just can't get enough of talking, giant man-eating plants...
