It's been a bad week, in terms of the depression thing. I'm just at a point where I'm afraid to talk about it. I finally let my mother in on the severity of it, and she immediately went into I JUST WANT TO FIX IT mode. And she knows she did, and she knows she can't. BUT OMG IS THERE ANYTHING SHE CAN DO TO FIX IT? NO REALLY, IS THERE? I've made about six different attempts at this paragraph and backspaced them all. My inner Elinor is flaring up and I'm afraid to say anything about how I feel now, because mostly I feel moldy and selfish and unmotivated on the best of days, and hellaciously cranky/stupidly weepy on the worst. And I am so, so afraid that if I don't post regularly enough (mmm, aged news! Delicious), readers are going to wander away, but I know I have to hold off if that's what I need to do. And meanwhile, I want to talk about this the way I usually talk about depression, but I just--can't. I don't know. Maybe I'll do a voice post or something--I feel like y'all would need to hear from my actual tone of voice that I'm not falling to pieces over this. It's just... heavy.

And please know that even when I'm not posting, I'm flagging stories for later, not all of which I even end up using. So really, I am keeping up with things, and if I don't compile a linkspam, you can still see what's going on there, if you want.

Re: Tonner SDCC exclusives: They're apparently going to be selling whatever's leftover on the direct site, so I think I'm going to try that (or eBay) rather than ask an unknowable number of readers to try to track down a slightly variant Tonner Edward. As much as I appreciate y'all offering--and, I mean, I did ask--I'm just not sure how that would not end up being a total clusterfuck, since no one would know if anyone else had managed to get one, and we'd end up, with, like, seven.

Also: they're going to have a Black Canary exclusive as well.

Also-also: I think I have found the Uhura I want.

Chez Jones is still a house divided over the Kris/Adam Question. As much as my mother has come to accept that Adam didn't "need" the win and will do just as well without it (isn't Queen in the market for a new lead singer? No, I mean a new -new singer), she is still somewhat disdainful of Kris. I cannot believe that, of the two of us, my mother would be the one to back the sexually ambiguous glam rocker.

MY STEPFATHER CUT MY JASMINE. JASMINE IS NOT A HEDGE. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE TRIMMED. IT DOES NOT NEED A SHAPE. MY JAAAAAAASMIIIIIIIINE NOOOOOOOOO.

On the upside, our gardenias are finally coming out. Hydrangea blooms are still MIA.

I gave my mother an ice cream maker for Mother's Day (and it was on sale! You know how we feel about sales!). I am hoping for strawberry on Memorial Day.

For some reason I thought Memorial Day was next weekend, and was confused when everyone seemed to be treating this weekend like a holiday. You know. For some odd reason. I are smrt.

First (I guess?) shots from New Moon. (EW has them up now as well. Somewhere, MTV is gnawing its fingernails off with jealousy.) The ONTD post title is, I believe, the last thing Jacob says to Bella in the book, which still makes me laugh. Also, I can deny it no longer: Chris Weitz is cute.

First off--had a couple of requests to talk about saving the show Chuck: [livejournal.com profile] library_of_sex says, "There's the usual letter-writing campaign and voting at E!Online's Save One Show, but there's also the Finale and Footlong, involving Subway, a big sponsor of the show," and [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse has more ideas here.

Oh, by the way: super cute charm necklaces. I have the Love Letter (wearing it right now, actually) and the Chat Noir.

(Hello, new unlurkers! A few folks mentioned getting LJ accounts so as to comment on that entry, so welcome aboard and enjoy your stay.)

Meanwhile, I am hearing disturbing rumors that NECA might not put out The Littlest Bella until JULY. Y'all... I am gonna be so screwed if I have to tread water on this for another three months. I am trying very hard not to email them like a wingnut and plead for information.

Meanwhile-meanwhile, I've been clenching my jaw again, fnarr. Got a lot of work done today, though (which is probably why).

Re: This morning's Secret Life of Dolls: There was an alternate picture I didn't post that might explain what was going on in the photos a bit better--the second one was actually supposed to be The Littlest Edward complaining ("IT'S INDECENT!," etc.) from "my" perspective sitting there at my desk. Also, Serafina's pose was supposed to look like this, only I couldn't quite get her legs to cooperate, so it ended up looking like more of a pinup pose (not unfittingly). And in case you were wondering how inadequately clothed Eva Green!Serafina tended to look in the movie, here you are.

Meanwhile, my mother watched the Twilight DVD the other night--I've gotten through most of the extras--and asked if I could find her sheet music for "that song Edward Cullen plays on the piano." (She used to love playing the piano and wants to get back to it.) "I know it isn't really him playing it in the movie," she assured me for some reason. "No, it's him," I said (deciding to give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't think that Actual Edward Cullen had somehow been magicked into existence for the purpose of filming a movie), "the actor's also a musician." "HE IS?" she cried. "I REALLY like him now!"

It's happened. I can't deny it anymore. She's a Twimom. I facepalmed.

Trufax: I was talking to my sister's boyfriend--we really need to come up with a code name for him, Sister Girl and I decided, but we don't know what yet--on Sunday and he mentioned the Twilight Tonner dolls. Apparently when I was all like YOU GUYS GO TO THE TONNER NYCC BOOTH AND JUST, LIKE... LOOK AT THEM OR SOMETHING FOR ME earlier this month, he did, and he was like, "Who's in charge here? Can we buy 400 of those for our stores?" And the Tonner people were like, "Uh... YES." Apparently it had never occurred to anyone to sell actual dolls at bookstores, even though their rival Borders has been selling the action figures and all the Hot Topic crap. So, uh... if you happen to be at a Books-a-Million and you see the Tonners there as an in-store exclusive, that's... kind of because one of their buyers has a not-quite sister-in-law who's a Crazy Doll Lady. *cough* I mean, I asked Sister Girl, and she said, "No, it totally would have been because of you, that's how he would have heard about the dolls in the first place," although of course he was the one smart enough to actually come up with the idea and get them for the stores.

And the other thing is... I don't have anything solid enough to repeat on this, but they might give Books-a-Million some kind of holiday exclusive, I don't know. It might simply be that Tonner's going to put out more stuff for the holidays, as they do, and Books-a-Million will be the only bookstore selling it, who knows.

Meanwhile, I am TIRED of this head cold. It's just bad enough to make me feel groggy and snerfy, but not bad enough to GET ON WITH IT.

Also: Remind me to tell you about the Bowl of Galadriel. Again. Uh... tomorrow. Like I said: I'm a bit behind.

More fun in the mail! I don't know who sent me the key pendant, but I LOVE IT.

(I always love things people send in the mail, and thank you so much--I just wanted to make it clear that I don't usually post about things unless I'm trying to figure out who sent it, not because I didn't like it. I just don't want it to turn into, you know, Send Cleo Presents and Buy a Shoutout on Her Journal.)

(Although I do want to mention a glittery Christmas card from Chesh: "Just pretend the snowmen are vampires sparkling in the sunlight. They feed on snowballs.")

Re: Official SKIN OF A KILLER Glitter: Pillowcases? Really? )

Oh, and I wanted to mention/recommend this--every year, I get a Kinuko Craft calendar because I love her artwork. (I have already secured 2009's, because apparently I am doomed to know every single thing I am getting for birthday and Christmas, to the point where my mother and aunt and grandmother sat around in my grandmother's kitchen and sorted out who would give me what when. While I was sitting there in front of them. "Would you rather have Prince Caspian for birthday or Christmas?" "OMG STOP IT!!") So... consider it rec'd.

Welcome, MSNBC readers! This is the kind of entry I wrote--still do, obviously--before Twilight ate my brain. I also post the occasional movie parody at [livejournal.com profile] m15m and put out a book of them overseas a couple of years ago. (Yes, I have promised to write "Twilight in Fifteen Minutes" or die trying.) Feel free to friend the journal, comment or lurk as you please, and enjoy your stay!

(Uh, y'all? I went back and looked at one of my old entries, and... the userpic wasn't mine. I'm not even sure who was in the picture. It seems to have eaten my favorite Reiko Shimizu icon--I think I've heard about this kind of glitch before? I'm just saying... if you see an icon that looks out of the ordinary for my style... that's why. It's a glitch. I don't usually have guys in my icons, for example.)

(It might have been Jackson Rathbone? Even Livejournal glitches know that I write about Twilight? I'm kind of scared now?)

I keep meaning to post variations on this story and forget, so: Ancient Vampire Killing Kit Sells For 15K. (How is the garlic still fresh?) For those of y'all who remember the Black Ribbon novel I'm still working on--man, I would love one of those.

From [livejournal.com profile] joannad: The Russian hackers got someone else. Whatever you do, do not click on the user journal or Shoebox Project links mentioned in the entry. And to secure your own journal, choose a secret question NOW. (ETA: Or not?) Here's what I would advise doing, in terms of setting your question/answer: since we're worried about hackers and not people in our daily lives stealing our journals, I would suggest writing the question and the answer down on a piece of paper, not storing it anywhere on your computer or online, and guarding that paper with your life. Here's why: choose a question, and for the answer, pick something completely unrelated. What was your first pet's name? Hardware store. You see what I'm saying? Something that no one would ever, ever guess, even by combing your journal for clues, because it's a non sequitur in the first place. And that's why you're going to want to write it down, in case you forget your randomly-chosen unrelated thing.

Okay, in less urgent news: If you didn't catch the ETA on the Twi-spam entry, Hot Topic has given up on trying to set line-up times and they're just giving out wristbands for Thursday and Friday in a first come/first serve free-for-all. People who don't hear about this until they show up "early" tomorrow night? Are going to be exquisitely pissed.

In even less urgent news: Sometimes people have to interview writers for school assignments (you know, "Interview a published author"), and because I'm not as scary as people who are actually important, sometimes they ask me. So if you'd like to hear (well, read) me answer questions I am spectacularly unqualified to answer, my most recent interviewer has let me archive some here.

In just really frustrating news: Our dishwasher has officially given up the ghost. Sigh.

Something fun: from [livejournal.com profile] t3andcrumpets, pretty, crazy-color eyeshadow that I have been drooling over all week. I'm not saying I'd go full-on rainbow with it (like on the front page), but you can shop by color, if you know what looks good with your eyes. I might just be crazy enough to try Hibiscus or Blaze in the distant future, I don't know.

Generally I put links or ramblings into Semagic as I find/think of them, and when I have enough, I hit post. The problem with this is that the entry you start may not be the entry you feel like posting when you finish. So I've got a blithe musing on Coldplay, of all things, right after this that I wrote last night, but today I found out that my frail, 84-year-old grandmother has fallen down and hurt herself (again), and while she hasn't broken anything, she can't put any weight down at all so my mom and my aunt are having to take her to the hospital, and the spectre of assisted living rears its head once more. And she had just gotten over shingles, y'all.

So... what I wrote last night:

I have a few of the songs off the new Coldplay album--I think it's coming out June 13? Fortunately there seem to be a few songs floating around already, and so far I like what I've heard. I really like "Viva la Vida," possibly because the line "I sweep the streets I used to own" really resonates with me for some reason. I mean, you know: there are times in your life when you felt like you were at the top of your game, and you end up looking back and wondering what the hell happened to you, and how you fell down to where you are now. I don't feel like anything was taken from me; I feel like I let something slip through my fingers, and sometimes I wonder if I can even remember what a good grip on the world feels like. Which is why I like the song, I guess, because the lyrics capture that feeling, but the music is actually really beautiful and almost hopeful-sounding. And the interesting thing is that, as the song goes on, it becomes about how hollow "being king" was in the first place. So it's both about nostalgia for something you had and being disillusioned with it at the same time. Huh.

I also really like "Violet Hill." My thoughts on that are less scintillating.

Minor addendum to Monday's entry: I did go and see Prince Caspian again, and while I still think it's a bit top-heavy with Telmarine political drama and a little too much wandering around looking for each other, I liked it a lot better this time. You know, particularly since I could actually see it this time. Of course, I also liked it the first time around.

Minor addendum to yesterday's entry: My mother would like it to be known that she really only lay in wait for the kids "about five or ten minutes," not forty-five, which was a number I made up out of whole cloth because I didn't actually know how long she stood out there. She's okay with being That Crazy Lady Up the Hill, but she doesn't want to be that crazy.

Via [livejournal.com profile] escap1974: [livejournal.com profile] allthatjazmyne (real name Julia; Jazmyne on SF; I'm not sure what her username was on TWOP, but from what I've heard, she was a beloved poster over there) passed away the other day. It was lung cancer; she was only 35, and she will be greatly missed. The reason I really wanted to mention it, though, was because--and this will tell you so much about what kind of person she was--her husband sent escape a copy of the obituary, and the penultimate sentence is, "Julia has requested everyone wear their favorite shoes to the funeral." Which will be Saturday, if you'd like to put on your favorites wherever you are to celebrate her life, or just to celebrate life in general. I have a pair of straw platform sandals with giant sunflowers on the toe that may get dusted off for the occasion.

So: Still anxious, jittery, and unhungry, but either it's easing up a tad or I'm getting used to it. I've been burning a lot of scented candles (usually something fruity or tropical) in a fragrant attempt at stress management, spending more time in the sun, that kind of thing. Oh, and the mouse disappeared for a night, then reappeared yesterday evening and kept me up all night rummaging under my bed. Also, I'm not turning on American Idol tonight until the last ten minutes, so if anything wacky happens, YouTube will just have to cover me.

From [livejournal.com profile] loafing_oaf: "A friend of mine and his pals have set up a site: Carbon Geeks. Their aim is to raise money, through ad-revenue, for carbon-offset projects and other environmental organisations. It's not long gone live, and they don't have much traffic yet, so I said I'd ask if you could post a link here. So, if you'd be willing to pass the link on, that would be fantastic. They are also looking for feedback on ways to improve the site, or things that people like/dislike about it. There is a 'contact us' link at the site, or if people prefer they can drop a comment to this post at my journal."
