This head cold is driving me crazy--of course, I have the luxury of saying that because it's not very bad. It's the kind of light cold where you sit around moaning all day that man, there is just nothing worse than a stubbed toe, you know? Because you've forgotten what a real knock-you-down bug feels like, you've forgotten anything but the thickish head and the slight sinus pressure and the developing cough and the constant frog in your throat right now. I have had chills pretty bad (no fever, though) and a good bit of fatigue, to the point where I spent half the day in a couch coma and the other half cheerfully on Twitter. Which I'm sure impresses no one.

From [livejournal.com profile] wolfsilveroak: "Hey, check out this Etsy shop. It was set up expressly for the Aussie Bushfires. So far, they've raised $12,000 in Australian funds. 100% of the proceeds goes to fire relief and they have free international shipping." Also, from [livejournal.com profile] sailorcoruscant: "One of my favourite yarn stores in Victoria is asking for people to knit squares that she will make into blankets for the victims." And from [livejournal.com profile] alexthedevil: "A reporter's tale of surviving the fire - 'How we cheated the flames of death.' "

I... have no good segue from that! Snack Deathmatch! Peanut butter cups vs. red licorice.

I KNOW RIGHT?!?! There are SO MANY reasons why this is the most fail idea I've ever heard of. I feel like I can hear the pitch in my head. "Yeah, tons of people saw this beautifully crafted, critically acclaimed, and oscar nominated movie. And yeah, it only came out a scant five years ago. But it was full of weird looking people I can only describe as 'not-white'. No one could have really liked it all that much. I mean, could you understand what was going on? I couldn't, they weren't even speaking English! I AM white, and thusly can do it better with my lovely white cast. Also, NEEDS MOAR ZOMBIES!".

No joke. I work at a movie store and people are always wanting their money back because they didn't know the movie they rented was subtitled... ("I don't want to read my movies")

OH THE HORROR!!! *eye roll*

However I will acknowledge that scary movies aren't as scary when you are reading words at the bottom of a screen. The movies are still GOOD just not so much with the scary...

Okay, I am completely and totally excited for Lesbian Vampire Killers. That had better get a release stateside. Hell, if it gets a DVD release I might just convince my wife to let me buy it sight-unseen.

It looks that awesome.

Also, I don't care what MTV says, I think that both Pride & Predator and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies are fantastic ideas. Randomly inserting zombies or alien monsters into romantic comedies--and in a sense, that is what Jane Austen is--is genius.

Even if I totally thought of it first. But thankfully, Shaun of the Dead beat me to it.

I am considering going to the Chicago screening of "How To Be". It actually does look quite good, and something I'd enjoy.

And yet, I am filled with shame! SHAME! Also, the screening is in a prominent downtown public building so I'm sure there'll be many, many fangirls to push around. Lord. Why am I considering this again?

A remake of "Flying Daggers"? I cannot begin to fathom what possible purpose this might serve. It only came out a few years ago, and since it rode the coattails of "Crouching Tiger" a bit, people who are into that sort of thing already paid good money to see it in the theater and/or buy it on DVD. So... um, what?

I suppose I should point out that I sort of didn't like most of the back half of the movie. There's some beautiful cinematography and great stunt & wirework and even some clever characterization and interaction... and then it turns into a tedious mess toward the end. Meh. Another reason I don't think it desperately cries out for an Americanized revamp. (I don't see the ending getting better, is what I'm saying.)
