Re: the SDCC exclusive Tonner Edward variant: I think my problem here isn't OMG IT'S A TWILIGHT DOLL I MUST HAVE IT; it's that I love incorporating stuff into the Secret Life stories. And "stuff" often gets expensive, although not always--some of the best bits have been small reader gifts (The Littlest Cowboy Hat, for example), or stuff I found around the house (the dessert fork for pitching the ponies' grass), or old toys from my closet (the ponies themselves). I mean, there are dolls I want for myself that I haven't bought because I couldn't justify the cost (even crazy-fantastic bargains) by thinking of a way to incorporate them--but I see something that makes me go HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO PUT THAT IN THE STORY and it's like my brain just shuts down. I mean, I saw Super Special Exclusive Legolas with Cloak on eBay and fought for that thing to the $40 death AND STILL GOT IT FOR HALF WHAT IT USUALLY GOES FOR, SUCKAAAAAS. It's kind of my equivalent of "SQUIRREL!"

But I am trying to talk myself down off the Gratuitous Edward Variant ledge because: Alice. I have to have Alice. I can't not have Alice. I have to bring Alice's awesome to The Shelf. I can't blow this kind of money on a character I already have in a slightly different shirt and afford an Alice. So there's that. I... I'll have to see a picture of the variant Edward, I guess. *hangs head*

Oh, by the way, we have a reader question about dolls--where to find good sites for accessories for 4" figures?

Oh, and my mother has found someone who wants to buy the plates. Not the mugs yet, though.

Speaking of which, I would really like to finish the first season recaps, and I got the DVDs last weekend. Problem is, it's been a really crazy week, so the five-episode recap marathon I'd been hoping to do didn't happen (and the Recap Triathlon last year nearly killed me as it was). My point is, I'd like to start up where I left off, maybe do two or three a week until I'm caught up with the current season, and maybe be a little less thorough this time around, since recaps were generally taking seven hours each to write by the time I left off. Which may be a clue as to why I did, in fact, leave off. I just know that I have a Sagittarian tendency to start things with great enthusiasm and then not finish them, and that really eats at me. So I'd like to see this through.

(No, I will probably never go back to Lost recaps, because it would pretty much have to be your full-time job to wade through mythology now. And that's why I stopped, because I couldn't enjoy the show for trying to recap it. So I choose the show over the recaps, basically.)

(I didn't finish Empire either. But you know, I actually have the DVDs. Next time an Emily Blunt [she was Camane!] movie comes out--what's she got next, The Wolf Man?--that might be a good time to recap the last two episodes.)

IDK about Megan Fox. She (and everyone around her) is so desperate to market herself as a nubile Angelina Jolie, she fails to realize just how trashy and dumb it makes her look. She's more and more that girl people half-care about what she says because of that crotch shot from Transformers than anything else. And I've never even heard of her being a halfway decent actress, which. Yeah. She needs to go cool off in some corner, preferably far away from skeezy men.

For real! I hate her slutty image with a passion, which is sad, because I feel like she's a relatively smart person (maybe?) who's gotten chewed up by Hollywood. I like Transformers as a popcorn movie, but there was that niggling voice in my head that wanted an awesome kickass nerd girl opposite Sam.

I... I agree about Alice. I still refuse to read the books, but I ended up watching the movie with some friends last weekend, and even in a minor part I could see why you rave about Alice being awesome. And in doll land, Alice + Lyra and Serafina would certainly get up to some interesting hijinks. ;P

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Really, Alice's rep for awesomosity comes from the time she hotwired and stole a yellow Porsche in Italy. She gets a little faily once she starts pressuring Bella to have the big fancy wedding Bella doesn't want. The movie, however, added Alice twisting James' head off like a bottle cap (Bella's unconscious for that whole bit in the book so we don't know exactly what happens), so that evens the balance a bit.

A++ WOULD LOL AGAIN. *dies*

I just know that Tars Tarkas & Co. are gonna be green as Piccolo, but the Red Martians abruptly becoming White Martians is not only going to be Ultra Faily, it throws a serious wrench in the works if they want to make a sequel. Dejah Thoris is guaranteed to be 500% less bloodthirstily awesome as well.

Five bucks says that either they don't specify which side this Civil War hero fought on or they swap it entirely. I'm also gonna bet that any and all mentions of Native Americans, the live ones in pursuit or the dead ones in the cave, are going to abruptly vanish.

I made a comment on ONTD about how she's like that hot girl in high school who you realize after the fact is pretty but generic and a bunch of people jumped on me. I don't hate MF, but I can't understand being crazily in love with her either. She's just too generic to care about. Even all the crazy things she says seem very calculated by her agents.

'I Hate Myself for Loving You' is basically a blues song that never made it past the 'anger' stage, instead just cranked the amp up to 11, shoved hot shards of glass through its nipples, and ran a razor-sharp tuning fork down your screen door at 2 in the morning, wanting so bad not to want to come in.

Sounds...like too many of my breakups, to be overly candid.

edited to add: in most of the dreams I wake up from not sure whether I'm turned on or scared out of my damn mind, the fork is tuned to middle C.

Okay, my brain is ambivalent on Rodriguez touching Predator, but my heart went AAAAAAAH! in the good way when I saw Neil Marshall's name in that line. What I don't understand, though, is the lack of people mentioning Dog Soldiers in detail as valid credentials for the job. I mean, hell, Dog Soldiers was closer to a Predator-feeling movie than AvP.

... and, okay, the guy's tendency to cast a particular handful of actors in his works makes me squeeble. Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt... yes, yes, please.

okay so this is a few days late but.

OH MY GOD DOG SOLDIERS. this is seriously one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. i don't like scary movies in general, but if i'm wanting for a good heart pounding movie, i pick Dog Soldiers. i'm pretty sure i've seen this movie over 500 times, and the part where the cow flies into the camp still scares the living shit out of me.

anyway, i agree that DS was WAY closer to the Pred feel than AvP. like, a thousand times more. maybe people didn't mention DS because they've either a) never seen it or b) feel that the rubber wolf suits make it almost too "b movie".

Alexander Skarsgard Was So Close To Playing Thor, He Even Tried On The Costume.

From the article:

When I told him I thought he had the perfect look to bring the comic book hero to life, Skarsgard had a simple — and honest — response: “So did I.”

Aw, poor Alex. :( Don't get me wrong, I thought Chris Hemsworth did a good job in the, um, three minutes he was on screen in Star Trek, but man Skarsgard could have been great as Thor.

On the other hand, this tidbit from the article sounds interesting:

Skarsgard told me that he’ll keep an open mind and remain hopeful to someday land another comic-book-based role. And, since Feige has made recent statements saying that the people he met during the “Thor” auditions could be brought back for other Marvel roles, we might still see him in Spandex and a cowl someday.

“It depends on the circumstances,” Skarsgard said of possible roles in “Captain America” or beyond. “It’s pretty hard to say [whether I’d take another comic role]. It depends on the circumstances - who the director is, and what the character is. But of course [I’d be interested in looking into it]. I think it’s every little boy’s dream; it would be a person’s dream to play an action hero.”

It would be pretty funny if we wind up with an American playing the Norse god, and a Northern European playing Captain America. *g* (hey, he looks the part! I mean, he's big blond and handsome anyway)

I seriously find myself wondering what it would take for me to be magically transported to Hollywood to consult on the Deadpool movie. OMG SO EXCITED.

I am SO glad a fan is playing the main actor, and that it's awesome Ryan Reynolds!

Time Traveler's Wife has me all giddy and wiggly in my chair. As short as it was, the trailer had so many things right (in my mind) that now I am more excit-diculous than ever.

I have a Sagittarian tendency to start things with great enthusiasm and then not finish them

I'm just amused because I do the same thing, except that I always considered it Aquarian. :-)

I had a dream that I was at a Twilight con once. I watched a panel where a shock-value-Goth Edward/Jacob writer had a throwdown with an evangelical Mormon BNF. It was pretty epic.

Kevin Lima Remaking Don Knotts' 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet.'

... *finds things to throw* DO NOT FUCK THIS UP, MR. LIMA!
You brought back a little 2-D animation with Enchanted, you better do the same with Mr. Limpet! I will not accept CGI! MY CHILDHOOD WILL NOT ACCEPT CGI!

Seconded! Frankly, I'm sketchy about the whole thing, I mean, how can you possibly top Don Knotts? He was the perfect Mr. Limpet.

That, and what about the storyline? Would they keep it in WWII era, or will there be some godawful update-for-audiences putting it somewhere closer to today's time?

Oh man, between this and Clash of the Titans, -and- a Short Circuit remake, my inner child is in the corner weeping, I swear. And let's not even get started on the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, or I'll really start bawling.
