Sorry--my sister came over (to wash clothes in preparation for her NYCC trip) and we were catching up and I'm desperately behind.
Today's scandal: Stephen King says ‘Twilight’ author ‘can't write.’ OH SNAP.
(And the wank is already delightful.)
Yesterday's scandal: A transcript of Christian Bale's meltdown; the surprisingly danceable remix; More Christian Bale Fun: McG Prophecies, Flip-Hop Remixes, and a Soundboard! Y'all, I hope that, someday, if I lose my shit at top volume for almost four minutes solid, and I happen to be miked, and a recording happens to leak, that the losing of my shit brings the internet as much joy as Christian Bale's has brought to us. God bless.
(In his defense: archnemesis Shane Hurlbut is "a pretty unrepentant light tweaker." This is my new favorite insult. Meanwhile: Gawker begs to differ. In conclusion: there's plenty of fail to go around!)

Today's Snack Deathmatch: Cadbury vs. Cadbury.

Date: 2009-02-04 04:37 am (UTC)...okay, not really, but your posts really brighten my day.
Now all we need are the opinions of other authors, like, say, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis...
Re: Stephen King says ‘Twilight’ author ‘can't write.’
Date: 2009-02-04 02:01 pm (UTC)However, I feel that Neil would be far more critical of SMeyer's one dimensional fail-parade.

Date: 2009-02-04 04:37 am (UTC)I couldn't stomach most of his books, but I'll be damned if I didn't love the movie adaptations (you dirty bird!).
I once read an interview in which SMeyer talked about how she actually visited Volterra and I always wanted to know if she went before or after she had written the description of it.

Date: 2009-02-04 04:47 am (UTC)Some Twitard has made a knit-and-felted model of Bella's uterus, complete with a mini felted Renesmee in it, all tied up with a ribbon for extra WTFery. (http://community.livejournal.com/twilight_crafts/42839.html) Notable explanation: ""The inside of the belly is all black because Renesmee was such a mystery and was hiding. There is red for the Edward since he's a vampire and nothing shiny I had would felt. 8-P. Bits of brown in there for Jacob because he's part of Bella (even before imprinting) as much as her baby." Yeaaaaaahhh. To their credit, some of the commenters on the post are squicked. I guess even Twitards have their limits.

I don't want anything from Spider-Man 4 filmed in Michigan. We already have the automobile industry, the former mayor of Detroit, the damn Detroit Lions, and so many other things to deal with. I don't want us to be partially responsible for that movie. Although it would help the unemployed. DAMN IT! >:|

Date: 2009-02-04 07:26 am (UTC)The Harry Potter series has been credited with getting a lot of kids into reading. Has the same been said for the Twilight series? Is it getting teen girls into reading? Because I can't think of any other reason as to why these Twilight readers wouldn't be aware of Stephen King's body of work. I didn't read him until I was about 16 or so, but I was well aware of his books when I was a very young reader; I just avoided them because I didn't like horror. So why are these people so ignorant?
no subject
Date: 2009-02-04 07:33 am (UTC)For the record, I've seen a lot of my usually intelligent friends fall victim to these books. As in they go from Chaucer, Twain and Byron to... Meyer. A few of them aren't ignorant, it's just an unexplainable zeitgeist. :(
