Sorry--my sister came over (to wash clothes in preparation for her NYCC trip) and we were catching up and I'm desperately behind.

God bless.

I laughed very loud today when I read Stephen King's stream of consciousness about Stephenie and Jo. I'll admit that Jo is definitely the better writer.

...the "snap"...it SPARKLES! That made my day.

I had a bunch of crap at the end of the entry, as I often do, that I meant to use for next time, and I hit post too soon--it's not my signing, it's Melissa Anelli's at NYCC, that I'm going to post about tomorrow. The information was from her blog.

(Dammit, I knew someone would see it before I could get it off.)

If what they're saying about Bale's reasons are true, and the transcript certainly backs it up, then he may have gone batshit insane (hahaha) but he's not unjustified. I've certainly felt like doing similar in college theater when people were acting stupid or unprofessionally. I really can't blame Bale. Plus his diatribe was clearly aimed at the actions of the man, not the man himself. "I can't work with you" not "You'll never work in this town again."

I read the Stephen King stuff at Leaky earlier, and had an out loud Oh Snap moment. King's writing vacillates between really freaking awesome (Carrie, The Stand) to craptastic (Pet Cemetery, among many, many, MANY others), but the guy is almost always spot on with his criticism. Also, because he's Stephen King, he could give a hoot who he pisses off, so he's stopped being polite, and started getting real. And he's got Meyer NAILED.

LOVE YOU, SK!

Then again, SM can just wipe her tears with her millions of dollars. But still.

Lol after the "he's stopped being polite and started getting real" line I couldn't help but think of The Real World and then a world of "The Real World: Celebrity Authors" came into my mind. In which Sthephen King is saying that Stephenie Meyer sucks and Dean Koontz is between them telling them both to just chill out, while Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts are taking bets in the corner to see who would win if it prgresses to a fist fight.

...sorry this was random but It had me laughing for awhile.

I'm still Team Bale over here. Screwing with the lights during a take is counterproductive anyway, and, like, unless it's a radical hour-long continuous shot, I'm sure the DP could have waited five minutes before he started messing with stuff. The DP has all day to set up his lights before the actors get there, and they're supposed to do their job then, with stand-ins, so that they don't waste the actor's time and/or distract them.

Yowza. Whoever does the hair at Tonner should be fired. All of the HP dolls have some CRAZEH hair; the only one whose hair I think looks halfway decent is Snape...which is all sorts of wrong! And last I checked, Harry Potter wears glasses. o.O

And HAHAHAHA Edward doll has a veritable mane! And Bella is a redhead?! At least they got the vacant expression in her eyes right.

Oh, one other thing, in case you haven't seen it yet:

Some Twitard has made a knit-and-felted model of Bella's uterus, complete with a mini felted Renesmee in it, all tied up with a ribbon for extra WTFery. (http://community.livejournal.com/twilight_crafts/42839.html) Notable explanation: ""The inside of the belly is all black because Renesmee was such a mystery and was hiding. There is red for the Edward since he's a vampire and nothing shiny I had would felt. 8-P. Bits of brown in there for Jacob because he's part of Bella (even before imprinting) as much as her baby." Yeaaaaaahhh. To their credit, some of the commenters on the post are squicked. I guess even Twitards have their limits.

Volterra is definitely real. About a month or so after reading New Moon, Rick Steves did a travel special in Volterra; I was washing the dishes at the time, not really paying attention, when I heard him say something about the city. I stopped looked up and went, "...huuuh?" So apparently Meyer actually looked into some Italian cities. I wonder if she did the amount of research for Volterra as she did for Forks. /sarcasm

Thanks for linking to the accent generator I posted on JF. It must be shared to the masses. Too bad I can't take credit for its creation.

I don't want anything from Spider-Man 4 filmed in Michigan. We already have the automobile industry, the former mayor of Detroit, the damn Detroit Lions, and so many other things to deal with. I don't want us to be partially responsible for that movie. Although it would help the unemployed. DAMN IT! >:|

I have a stupid question -
The Harry Potter series has been credited with getting a lot of kids into reading. Has the same been said for the Twilight series? Is it getting teen girls into reading? Because I can't think of any other reason as to why these Twilight readers wouldn't be aware of Stephen King's body of work. I didn't read him until I was about 16 or so, but I was well aware of his books when I was a very young reader; I just avoided them because I didn't like horror. So why are these people so ignorant?

From: [identity profile] vkitty.livejournal.com
So why are these people so ignorant?

For the record, I've seen a lot of my usually intelligent friends fall victim to these books. As in they go from Chaucer, Twain and Byron to... Meyer. A few of them aren't ignorant, it's just an unexplainable zeitgeist. :(

Stephen King is hit or miss with me - I love some of his stuff (From a Buick 8, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon) and don't like others (never could get into the Dark Tower series).

But the man himself is pretty consistently awesome, and I love the fact that he's a real Red Sox fan. And now he gets even more points in my book, for this lovely smackdown (and the resulting wank).

Maybe I should try The Dark Tower again...
