Not the best day I've ever had; not the worst, either. I seem to be cycling through moodswings at an astonishing rate--well, "cycling" implies a set pattern, and I don't know that there is one. And they're not terribly strong swings, either. All I know is, I spent a lot of the day feeling very sad, and then all of a sudden I'd be smiling to myself about something. Other than the sadness, which is really frickin' annoying in terms of trying to get anything done, the moods themselves are fairly mild; I don't feel manic or anything. I have a med check next week, though, and I'll be mentioning them then.

Also, it thundered all day long, despite the sun, and now it's finally pouring down.

Also-also, our dryer has died. Because we just hadn't added to our debt in a while.

Oh, and something that actually kind of made me laugh: the seriousness of the tomato-salmonella epidemic finally hit home when Qdoba refused to give me any pico de gallo.

Just a note

Two things that came up in the comments of the previous entry:

1. Ellen Page IS Jane Eyre (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] elbeonore). "Alison Owen of Ruby Films, who most recently produced 'The Other Boleyn Girl,' is working with BBC Films to develop the new adaptation of Bronte's classic 19th century romance." OH HELL NO.

2. This thread:

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: I'm waiting for the action figures. But really they won't have much action except to mope around and pine over Bella.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: Edward would definitely have Sparkle Action, though.

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: Most embarrassing moment in vampire lore EVER.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: I hereby swear (holds up hand) that if I write a 15M for this movie, I will try my damnedest to work in the line, "I have begun to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion."

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: And I'll want an icon of that.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: Done!

Oh my God, that was horrible. You know what? It doesn't even bother me that the movie wasn't like history, because movies so rarely are, and the book wasn't either. And it doesn't bother me that the movie wasn't like the book, because--well, movies so rarely are, and the book wasn't like history anyway, and also, I'm usually the first one up at bat to defend movie adaptations, particularly the Harry Potter movies. You know why it was horrible? Because it didn't make any damn sense. Spoilers )

Okay. Whew. Now that I've got that out of my system, there's pretty much only one way to recoup two hours watching that clusterfuck. I don't know how long it'll take me, but you'll be the first to know when I'm done.

So... I had a shitty evening last night. My blood pressure still feels a little high today. Hurrah. Here was the one bright spot: I was at TV Tropes going through the Characters as Device list when I saw "The Littlest Cancer Patient" and went, "Aww, hey, that's like the thing I used in the... omg."

Presumably, the name of this trope is a reference to The Day After Tomorrow in Fifteen Minutes, which uses the phrase to great hilarity.

I have made my contribution to the world and can die happy. You think I'm kidding, and I'm not.

(Maybe I shouldn't say things like "die happy" after the High Blood Pressure of Fury last night. And the last time I had it checked, the nurse actually said I had very good, low blood pressure. Knocking on wood... now.)

(Before you ask: yes, I voted today. Now I'm going to go scrapbook something random until I feel mellower.)

Speaking of which, from [livejournal.com profile] entropy_and_me: "I was so inspired by your digital scrapbooking creations that I've gotten a bit, er, obsessively into it myself now. I made a digiscrapping resource post at my blog. You might be collecting links to do a digiscrapping linkspam yourself for all I know, but I thought my little resource post might be of interest to your readership."

It was a bad day. Really bad. On the upside, it's Qdoba night (we've fallen into the habit of getting takeout on Wednesdays while my stepfather goes to practice with the church... orchestra, I guess?), and I've developed a ridiculous weekly jones for their tomato jalapeƱo salsa, preferably on a chicken quesadilla.

So, I mentioned a while back that I reread The Golden Compass, so today I decided to pick up The Subtle Knife again--I just remember neither of the other two books being as great as the first one, and maybe that's because the narrative is less focused (instead of centering on Lyra, it now follows several different characters) and there's less of Lyra's own world, which is pure undiluted awesome. I was hoping that The Part That Makes Me Really Mad wasn't until The Amber Spyglass, but no--it's the chapter I stopped at this afternoon when I went upstairs to check my email: "Alamo Gulch." NICE ALLUSION THERE, PULLMAN.

Meanwhile, mostly been writing (and reading, obviously), although I do seem to have kind of a weird earache now. Fascinating.

LiveJournal creator leaves as Six Apart fails to spin. "Word is that Brad Fitzpatrick, the founder of LiveJournal and chief architect of Six Apart, is leaving the troubled blog-software company. And the fact that you're hearing about from a gossip blog rather than the transparency-loving company is itself a sign of how deep the problems run." Uh-oh. Furthermore: "The only reason that Six Apart management hasn't announced it, the source adds, is that they can't figure out how to spin it. Here, let me help, guys! It's bad. And Fitzpatrick's departure is just the tip of Six Apart's reality-denying iceberg."

From [livejournal.com profile] stormyskies: "I was wondering if you wouldn't mind posting this link in your next round of linkspam? My aunt was diagnosed with leukemia about six months ago. She really depended on the Leukemia and Lymphona Society for information and so she wants to raise money for them as a way to thank them for all of the information and support they've given her and our family. Each member of the family has a donation page, and that one's mine. We all have a personal goal of $100, which I would love to hit. If anyone could spare even a dollar to the cause, I would be forever grateful. Thanks in advance."

Shockingly, I don't think there's any Potterspam at all )
