Jan. 26th, 2009 08:06 pmMOAR DOLLS: I just keep staring at the Serafina Pekkala prototype. SHE SO PRETTY. I'm still just so giddy that they're actually making her. And yes, that is a Sam Elliott Cowboy Grandpa doll listed beneath her.
(I like how the site has to specify, "This character does not wear shoes." So, you know, don't call up Tonner and bitch them out when she doesn't come with any.)
Meanwhile, I found out that 100 Edwards and Bellas will be sold at the Tonner NYCC booth in a couple of weeks. You know. Early. Before you can get them anywhere else. Of course, you'll have to bring your beatstick to ward off the other Twihards in order to reach the table, but still. I immediately started shrieking "NOOOO! NOOOOOOO!" because, while I know people who will be physically present at Comic-Con and could pick them up for me, I don't have the money yet because I haven't finished my stupid e-thing to sell (which is still assuming I'd have anything left after paying off the air conditioner, which I said I'd take care of). In fact, I have a children's picture book (just the text, obviously) that I need to find a publisher for. But, of course, did not think to do this ahead of time just in case Sparkle Motion should be present at NYCC. AUGH. Ah, well. There'll still be 1900 other dolls to cut TwiMoms for.
(Oh Lord: MTV Staffers Unbox The Magical Edward Cullen Doll. I'm not even going to look. I don't even want to know.)

Date: 2009-01-27 02:11 am (UTC)1.) He looks so stylish wearing Edward’s trademark grey wool coat, dark denim jeans, and t-shirt.
2.) He came with shoes and socks, because we all know vampires and dolls need socks. But would Edward really need socks since he’s “cold” all the time doesn’t really sweat? Point to ponder.
3.) He would never go on a date with Barbie.
4.) He’d totally kick Ken’s ass in a fight.
5.) He resembles Robert Pattinson, and anything that resembles Robert Pattinson is going to be awesome.

Date: 2009-01-27 03:03 pm (UTC)This is what Jim Hines says in an interview.
it's a story of three women learning to work as a team to save a prince, fight evil, and generally kick ass. Also, it's got the best use of silverware in hand-to-hand combat of any book I've ever seen.
Q) Can you introduce us to these characters?
A) Danielle Whiteshore (Cinderella) is our viewpoint character. She's a little overwhelmed by all the changes in her life since she married Prince Armand. She's in heaven with a loving husband and a family who doesn't treat her like a slave ... even if the palace staff look at her a little funny for chatting with the doves and the rats. Talia (Sleeping Beauty) and Snow (White) both came to serve Queen Beatrice after fleeing their respective homelands. Snow is a bit of a flirt as well as a bookworm. She inherited her mother's gift for magic, as well as the magic mirror, making her quite the powerful magician. Talia is the fighter of the group, both physically and emotionally. She's learned to use her fairy gifts of grace and dancing to become one of the deadliest warriors in the kingdom.

And Then Buffy Staked Edward. The End.

Date: 2009-01-27 03:56 am (UTC)I was really curious - I really wanted to see what they looked like irl. She cast poor Bella aside because "Bella - no one likes Bella." It was very much like Rpattz is so hawt omg Bella never wore THAT (publicity shots, #1 fan? did you see them?), sorta thing. Plus she rumpled poor Edward's hair so that it was more of a poof... you spared yourself by not watching.
All in all they look exactly like the picture, so I don't think they would change much... unless the smackdown of not being true to Kristen and Rob that the girl from MTV gave them would make them want to change it.

Date: 2009-01-27 04:11 am (UTC)I hadn't heard about this until you linked it, so I approached it fresh. I read Shaffer's Wired piece before doing anything else, and then I read her blog post. Then I glanced at one of her critics (Sandwalk blog). I have to say, I was not impressed by the Wired article. I don't think it makes her a raving creationist/IDer, but since I wish the press would stop covering ID altogether -- it's not a debate that can ever be resolved, so why cover it? It's boring! -- I'd rather the piece hadn't been written. That, however, is Wired's fault. She just wrote about what they asked her to.
The blog post was rather understandably defensive, and going by her description of what the critics said, she was falsely accused. She does go on to say that scientists shouldn't be making ad hominem attacks first and going back to facts second. This is a good point. However, this is also the internet, and whatever you think of it, it seems like people will be asses online. (I'm resigned to that now.)
I wish that people could just talk about the debate over how evolution works without worrying about ID or creationism or any of that stuff. The internal scientific debates are interesting enough.

Date: 2009-01-27 04:22 am (UTC)Besides, she's just not right for the part. She's not busty enough, for one, and I really doubt that she can pull off the English accent. And if they were to make Lara Croft into an American, what would be the friggin' point?
I had a discussion over the ideal Lara Croft on a message board and somebody--a damned genius, I'd say--suggested that Eva Green should play her. I personally would definitely pay good money to see that movie. She'd be the sexiest Lara Croft ever.
