Really, really tired. I would like to discuss The Amazing Spider-Man, but I feel kind of drained. So drained that I saw it on Tuesday and still don't have the energy to say anything substantial about it. So drained that, while this entry sounds pretty bubbly, it took me an hour to write. Suffice it to say that there are a lot of good things about it, and spoilers )

I could probably sit down and do a Fifteen Minutes of this, but I don't know that I need to do another one quite so soon after The Avengers (which is here, and Prometheus is here). I suspect it would inevitably be anticlimactic. I probably could have also done Snow White and the Huntsman (I saw that. Did I mention I saw that?), but I probably couldn't come up with anything funnier than the tiny bit I dropped into the Avengers one, so. Also, seriously, I don't do these very often anymore, so that is my usual year's entire output in about three weeks. I'm still working with the anemia thing and the bipolar/depression thing and other health issues and such. Seriously, I do not understand how it is already July.

ALSO, I almost forgot to mention: that LJ Repost thing was a horrible, horrible idea. The Facebook/Twitter/G+ buttons are fine, but, I am serious, do not repost people's LJ entries to your f-lists. It will only end in tears and fire. Possibly cars flipping over and exploding, I think we had a couple of those as well. That said, I would like to thank the Whedon multi-fandom for being surprisingly positive about the whole Avengers thing--I have not had a single negative comment on that front. I mean, now that I've said that, I probably will, but, you know, let's celebrate what we have.

ALSO-ALSO, the best thing I saw on the internet in the last two weeks:

@silkskinned: TWITTER. I LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR SIX HOURS AND SUDDENLY HARRY POTTER HANDS KATIE HOLMES A SOCK

GO KATIE GO!

The Avengers in Fifteen Minutes.

1) I think this one took me the longest time to write ever (SIX WEEKS) barring maybe the year-long meltdown that was the writing of the ten parodies for the book.

2) Two Fifteen Minuteses is already twice as many as I put out last year; I am regular in my irregularity. (Maybe it was the anemia. I don't know.) I can't promise anything but soldiering through the next/last Twilight movie just to say that I finished something.

3) This one went long, even after I valiantly chopped off 350 words. I don't think anyone will actually care, given that The Avengers is like the 3rd highest-grossing ass-long movie of all time or whatever.

4) The new LJ "like"/"repost" function seems automatically throw a "liked" entry by someone else into your journal feed in a way that is much more like Tumblr's auto-credit-giving reblog function and a lot less like stealing my stuff, so I tentatively endorse this. OBSERVE:

(ETA: The LJ Like option seems to be making a few people angry, so... not so much with that. I'm taking the LJ repost part off and leaving Twitter/Facebook/G+ on, since I'm not hearing any complaints about that.)

However, I think, once it's in your friends list, it only shows up that one time—so people won't get spammed with 300 reposts of the same entry. In order to test that, I have reblogged my own Prometheus thing to see what happens. Sorry for any confusion.

5) BARTITSU IS A REAL THING, OKAY?

Okay, I'm having to explain a fragmented discussion to so many people that I want to recap it in one place. I am probably going to get my ass kicked for this. I am trying to convince myself that I regret nothing.

I liked The Avengers.

It's cool that you adored The Avengers.

I am not trying to rain on your parade. I am not trying to be that person who tells you that everything you love is bad and you should feel bad.

I don't actually feel the need to go on and on about this, but I'd rather have it all in one place and get it all out at once. If nothing else, this is a way to explain to people who are curious as to what the whole foofaraw is about. I will not bring it up again after this entry.

The Avengers was a great movie that had one sour note in it.

SPOILERS: Read more... )

That said: I really appreciate the incredibly civil discussion we've had here the last couple of days (and always). I will do whatever I have to do, as a moderator, to keep it that way. Let's continue to have nice things.

ETA on Thursday afternoon: I'm leaving comments open and will continue to read and moderate, but I won't be discussing anymore. I'm discussed out. We're at 353 comments as of this writing, and anything after that won't get a reply from me. If civility continues to hold, anyway.

ETA: Our very first nasty comment showed up sometime after 400! It is late Saturday night and I am tired and I don't want to deal with this entry ever again. Thank you for being 99% cool, and good night.

Short version: I liked it (my mother loved it), but (for me) it wasn't the hot fudge sundae of film, although I understand why it might have been for someone else.

Okay, we have a lot to talk about. First of all, I have a question, since I do talk about mental health and the treatment thereof pretty openly: have any of y'all had any problems with Zoloft withdrawal? I'm moving from a fairly low dose to an even lower one, and I'll probably stop taking it entirely after my next med check. (This is my doctor's idea, and I am on board with it; I am very vocal when something does not work for me, so it's a whole process, and it's professionally guided.) I just want to know if there's something I should look out for. Because we tried to increase it a couple of years ago, before eventually moving to Lamictal (which, after a bumpy adjustment period, has worked out really well), the Zoloft increase was... bad. It was bad. So I want to know what to look out for, so I can recognize it and go back and say "This isn't working" if I have to. (ETA: It may affect your answer to know that I'm going to try to taper entirely off Zoloft after twelve years of being on it.)

Second: I have been sick the last two or three days. Not too badly, but a low fever, some sinus drainage, a sore throat, and I've had a cough for a while. So I've been dozing on the couch a lot. I would hate to think that I am such a ~delicate blossom~ that the anxiety of posting a new Fifteen Minutes--let's face it, I only do this 2-3 times a year, so there's kind of a psychological build-up to it--did me in, or smacked my immune system upside the head, or what. But it's possible. I'm usually a bit done in for a day or two after these things, after all. Because I am, apparently, a fragile little e-flower. Who knows.

Third: Let's have some linkspam. Read more... )

Meanwhile--bear with me, I'm going somewhere with this--this is my new favorite thing. Yes, it's actually a "mystical eye" design.

And there is a reason I am showing you this, because: Read more... )

Meanwhile-meanwhile, YA Highway has linked to me a couple of times this month---first to the "Twilight and the female gaze" entry, now to Eclipse in Fifteen Minutes--which is nice.

What I saw while I was over there was... not so nice. YOU GAVE YOUR BABY A PUNNY TWILIGHT TRAMP STAMP? )

I'm going to go lie down again.
