2) I go to NYU and I didn't hear about this thing until just now. *sigh* I don't even know how to explain the bitches over at Take Back NYU. They say their about rights and giving the Palestinian students scholarships, but all they really do is yell "Fuck Bernie Madoff" at the beginning of my sociology lecture. I hope J-Sex (NYU's president with an AWESOME NAME) let's them sit there as long as they like and gives them nothing.

3) I love how they call it "the occupation." I'm getting flashbacks from Nazi Poland.

Oh wow those HP and Lemony Snicket covers are gorgeous. The Lemony Snicket ones in particular sort of remind me of Saul Bass movie posters. I seriously love the one for The Ersatz Elevator- heels, hand, tie, and eye- perfection.

I really love that cover too. Also, I think the cover for for The Austere Academy is fantastic -- I love the silhouettes.

My favorite by far, though, is the Half Blood Prince cover -- even beyond Dumbledore's death I thought the creepiest, most upsetting part of the book was all of those dead bodies floating beneath the surface of that dark lake, just waiting to rise up and drag down innocent victims. Incredibly eerie.

The Watchmen condoms remind me that we've been getting really great Durex-ad inserts in our campus newspapers lately -- mock comic-book covers, with superheroes like "The Incredible O-Girl" (I think? That one was a few weeks ago, I believe it was Ribbed For Her Pleasure) and "THIN-visible Man" (ultra-thin). They're very detailed, and they've been cracking me up.

Oh, my NYU revolutionary friends. You lost all credibility when you made your first demand amnesty for yourselves. Real civil disobedience? That involves taking the risk of arrest, guys. The whole idea of the thing is saying, "I think the law is so wrong I'm willing to take jail time to protest it", not "I think this law is wrong but I don't want to face any real risk because that could look bad when I apply for law school next year." Either your cause is important enough for the "take over the food court and face the consequences" treatment or it's not.

I just posted a journal entry about how I wanted to go to PaleyFest09 and COULDN'T because who the hell has $750 to go to a TV convention? Not me... and now this is another thing for me to bitch about tomorrow at work... first no True Blood cast and now no Pushing Daisies ON TOP of that..

I was a girl scout for many years and my mom was in charge of booths for San Francisco, so I've heard about such things before. Like, there was this girl left alone at a booth so her mom could get the car and some guy came up to her with a knife and stole all the money. Also, I once had a homeless man hit on me while I was selling GS cookies(I was in high school at the time). It pisses me off that people would do such a thing but it doesn't surprise me as much.

Well, strictly speaking, the stimulus bill was written by Congress, headed up by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, NOT Obama. Congress is the real target here. HOWEVER, that does not excuse the editor of the NYP from printing the cartoon. I think the artist honestly didn't get that it could be taken another way, but the editor should have. That's what an editor is for.

*Of course, I'm biased because I once got burned in a like manner. I made a cover for a fruit-fly researcher's convention in Chicago. Fruit flies buzzing around the Sears tower. I showed it to everyone I knew in Texas because I was proud of it, then sent it off to Washington D.C. to be printed by the government agency in charge of funding the convention. And if that art director could have reached through the phone and pulled out my gut, she would have. Because it was spring 2002 and way too soon for that kind of image. I bet that artist is really fucking ashamed right now. I know I was.
