I forgot to mention this earlier, but since a few people asked--you actually can get the Movies in Fifteen Minutes book in paperback off Amazon UK for a lot less than the hardback, which seems to mostly be in the hands of the Asshat Resellers now (God bless us, every one). What's £5.99 these days--$8.48? And you can get it used for £2.99 (even from a business perspective, I'm more concerned with people reading the book than whatever slim royalties I might lose from secondhand sales). Whereas the hardback now seems to only sell used from £31 and up. So, in conclusion: if you want to get the book cheap, the paperback has a different cover and a slightly different title, but it's the same thing.

Meanwhile, the Awesomeness Initiative is flagging somewhat, mostly because the cold weather is making me sluggish. One of my favorite things to do when it's cold--and the sheer amount of time I spend doing this is a major failing of mine--is curl up on the couch under a pile of blankets while the dogs argue over who gets to lie on my feet. As a means of jumpstarting my lazy ass, I've started asking myself what Barack Obama would do, and then I realized that's not going to work because he would just tell Rahm Emanuel to take care of it while he did something more presidential, like fix the economy with the power of his mind from his Fortress of Solitude. So then I started asking myself what Michelle Obama would do. Put on her Jimmy Choos and kick some ass, that's what Michelle Obama would do. I think this would look very good printed on a rubber bracelet, in fact.

(This is why I will never be a good role model. What would Cleolinda do? Curl up on her couch and... watch shitty movies on cable. POW!)

Meanwhile, DO WANT. I've gotten kind of fixated on the double heart/crown motif (as seen in today's icon, which is from this moonstone ring, for which my soul grieves because it is both 1) sold and 2) something like several hundred if not thousand dollars, if my memory serves. The Three Graces: All shall look upon their antiques and despair). I'm also a big fan of the burning/sacred heart motif, which means that I sit and stare at the Parrish Relics site a lot. You know, when I'm not curled up on the couch watching shitty movies.

Your blankets/couch scenario is exactly what I did for a week straight when I got home from the holidays, only "shitty movies on cable" was alternated with "devouring the Sookie Stackhouse books without seeing humanity or coming up for air".

Currently I'm rereading His Dark Materials and should really stop that and finish the reading for my grad seminar tomorrow morning. . .either way, I'll be under the blankets in my papasan chair.

May Michelle Obama guide us all through a more productive tomorrow!

I bring this tale to you because I can't help it, even though it illuminates me as a total loser with weird hobbies. I recently became a spinner (like with a spinning wheel, not the exercise kind of spinner) and I joined a sort of subscription club that sends you a mystery bit of hand-dyed fiber every month, and this was the first month, and I got my package and I was so excited and I opened it up, and looked at the colors and then looked at the tag, and I saw the following, with the last word in a special swirly font:

January Club Fiber: Twilight

and I DIED.

The description indicates she was thinking of the actual time-of-day twilight and not Twlight but now I will not be able to spin it without thinking of it as my Twilight yarn and I will be seriously tempted to knit something with a cat on it.
