So Prison Break has been canceled. This is my mother's second favorite TV show (I promise you, if the Jack Bauer Power Hour had been axed, you would have heard the rending of her garments from the other side of the globe). I emailed her the bad news, and I got this in reply:
Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooo……………….. That was really one of the best series, but I was wondering what else they could do. Hopefully, Michael and Sara can be together and Lincoln and Michael will be exonerated and the bitch will get hers!
Bless.

Meanwhile, at [livejournal.com profile] snacky's: When you get into new fandoms, is it because you discover the source material first or because you follow other fans? I say this in Snacky's comments, but--I realized that I follow actors, not fans. I mean, great watershed moments in Cleo Fannishness: "I kinda got bored with Lord of the Rings when I was twelve, but if Her Cateness is doing it, well..." "Alan Rickman at a wizard school? I gotta read this book." "Well, I mean... I know it looks stupid, but it's Hugh Jackman and vampires, so..." "Johnny Depp's in a movie based on a theme park ride?" "Dude, that hobbit guy got a big American TV show?" "Cedric Diggory's a vampire?"

So, you know: go weigh in, and stuff.

I totally pulled a 'CEDRIC DIGGORY IS EDWARD!?!?!?! I MUST SEE HIM BE AN AMERICAN" Then I went through the cast list and go excited all over again when I saw Jane Doe from Grey's Anatomy was Esme. Poor actors, I don't even go by their names. It's strictly the characters they play.

Yeah, but then they got put back into another prison--like, a really scary South American prison or something, I don't even know. I have no idea what they're doing now, I just see bits of it when I come down for dinner sometimes.

Unfortunately, we don't have the concept of shows being only one season long on purpose here. Everything's got to be run into the ground (or canceled before it can wrap up).

Okay, um. This is a ridiculous thing to be all purist about, but I confess Smokey and the Bandit is one of my guilty pleasure movies -- it's dumb, but it's fun dumb, and that's exactly why they should leave it alone. Any modern remake would just get sexed up and loaded with all sorts of unnecessarily crass humor. Worlds of meh. (okay, I just read the link and it's even worse than I thought!)

Besides, the thing's such a product of its time. CB radio? The fact that the entire point of the run was to get Coors beer because it wasn't available in their neck of the woods? What would they do now, go Twittering down the highway with their iPhones on the way to get a microbrew? Please.

You know, I faithfully watched the first 2 seasons of Prison Break and loved it. But after about the 3rd episode of season 3 I forgot to tape it for like a month and then just figured I'd catch it on dvd. I never did. And plus, I was totally bummed with the whole Sara decapitation and then when they said they were bringing her back I believe my actual words spoken to myself were, "WHAT?! How?? Oh, WHATEVER!" However, I still have a serious crush on Wentworth Miller.

I tend to look at off beat things and get into them... then some cool person find said off beat thing and suddenly its popular. The I don't like it...

But I watch all the stupid movies like Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall because Jonah Hill was in it and I still love him from Accepted! I'll also watch any movie with Jamie Bell in it even it its way too trippy for my tastes (see: Hallam Foe)

I have a handful of Actors I follow. Kat Dennings, Aaron Yoo, Jamie Bell, Jensen Ackles, Justin Long and Kristen Stewart until Twilight came along and fucked all that up for me...

I didn't follow the link at first, but reading your comment compelled me. Not just any 10-year-old, but Will And Jada's Young'un. Which... huh. You'd think Papa would have a better eye for this sort of thing and steer the lad clear.

Never mind that my first thought upon seeing the Jackie Chan part of it was, "What? Couldn't get Chow Yun Fat?" A thought fueled by my recent viewing of the "Dragonball" trailer, admittedly. I adore both of those guys, and I wish they'd stop getting sucked into execrable projects.

You know, like remaking a movie that stands on its own just fine thank you and doesn't need the benefit of modern technology. Gah! Not all of the "remake" projects make me cringe, 'cause in some cases it is a neat idea to see what modern film-making tools can do with something. There's precisely zero reason whatsoever, however, in this case.

I repeat: Gah!

I really thought I was the only one left watching Prison Break, but I want to know if your mother can keep track of it because I can't.

I'm an avid Lost fan and I maintain that Prison Break is by far the most confusing show on television. With the exception of the main protagonist, everyone has switched sides multiple times.

I'm also not surprised that it is finally canceled. The idea was great for one or two seasons, but at this point the show is laughable.

Date: 2009-01-14 03:59 am (UTC)

I can only keep track of it because I was using it on my iPod for train fodder. Okay, so Michael has a brain aneurism, and Linc has to work for The Company because they operated on Michael, and Sara is alive...still not sure why, there.

Gretchen is still a bitch, but we're on the same side now. We're trying to steal Scylla back, because suddenly...screw it.

Show got cancelled because it jumped the shark. They were trying to tell Michael that his mother was alive and working for The Company.

Give up and watch Breaking Bad instead. I did.

I love how everyone's freaking out about RPattz's hair, as if hair has suddenly stopped growing when you cut it. The movie doesn't start shooting for a few months. He couldn't do it with The Hair, he needed to get it back to Edward-sized proportions (because unless I'm mistaken, vampire hair doesn't change, right?). Chill out, y'all.

Look here, Lil' Kim. When you walk out in public with your boobies covered in nothing more than a glorified vending machine sticker and some glitter, you lose all rights to complain about how you're "portrayed".

Meanwhile, I love Rob for holding his own rather pitiful rebellion by chopping his hair. I'm surprised he's not walking around in a bald cap, honestly.

When it comes to fandoms, I seem to gravitate towards things it looks like I might like, then latch on after I decide. There are certain genres that truly appeal to me, but that doesn't mean I'm really familiar or in love with the source material OR that I've got friends there. I've always been a bit of an odd duck when it comes to being in different fandoms.

Great, they cancel yet more good shows to make room for yet more reality TV that's going to suck even more than reality TV already does.

Yeah, no, I'm here for the grumpy chick from Panic Room. Huh? No, because she looks like one of the characters from one of my stories, and if it were a movie and I had any pull, I'd totally cast her.
