I totally own that Blue swirly art pony. o.O

MLP is still hugely popular. There's a whole fandom of people out there who do custom repaints, much like some people do the Tonner dolls.

For examples:
http://www.aikarin.com/mlp/customs/customgallery.html
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=custom+Mlp
http://www.darkhorsecollectables.com/index.html

Also, you are not alone in your supposed 'shame' of keeping them. Mine are still in storage. Somewhere. I think. At least it's just one box. Not this (http://www.u.arizona.edu/~jkanc/index.html).

And if you don't have shelf space to keep your ponies, there's always PonyStars (http://www.ponystars.com/maleficently)

I'm going to apologize in advance for sounding really nonchalant here, because I feel guilty for coming off as nonchalant about this.

So, what's the deal with that Keira Knightley PSA? Like, was the empty set just to drive home the tagline or was she supposed to be filming something and then her "boyfriend"/"husband" showed up and started beating on her? Or am I just looking way too much into the setup?

For me, it's just one of those times when I feel like I'm so close to fully understanding the setup of something but it still feels so elusive.

Date: 2009-04-03 02:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah... that was strangely meta. I think she was really supposed to be at "home," and the empty set was for the tagline. But even considering that, it's like she leaves a set, goes to her "real" home, but then has these slightly stilted lines like, "Oh, gentle heart, please!," and then suddenly drops character and says "I didn't agree to this." But it keeps going, so it's real, but it's actually a set and not a "real" home, but he's still really beating her, and... yeah.

But I liked the whole "I didn't agree to this, this wasn't in the script" part as the metaphor for a relationship. Because, you know, no one ever gets into a relationship thinking they'll be abused or wanting to be.

wait, 3 books for the final Wheel of Time series? Why????!!!!

And I have no idea how they could possibly turn The Eye of world into a film. They'd have to edit out 3/4 of the book at least! Not that those books couldn't stand to use some heavy editing/cutting down in length...

Though the quote about Fantasy writers & brevity was pretty funny. :)

Ummm... why does The Hobbit need to be a trilogy?

I could understand when they wanted to do a sort of Hobbit sequel bridge to LotR movie, but if they can make FotR, TTT and RotK into one movie each, they can make The Hobbit one movie.

Oh fer God's sake:

The Hobbit does not need to be made into a damn trilogy! I recently saw the Rankin-Bass cartoon and it effectively told almost the entire story--with a few minor deletions--in 70 minutes!

I love Peter Jackson dearly--and Guillermo Del Toro, as well--but he clearly is still stuck on EPIC MODE. He almost ruined King Kong by treating it like an epic and it'd be just as big a mistake with The Hobbit.

Just because Tolkien wrote it, doesn't mean it needs to be epic.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] brisingr88.livejournal.com
I agree! The Hobbit isn't that complicated of a story (and, in my opinion, not an epic)and they could definitely do it justice in one film.

Men in Black 3? NO! They're never going to match the first script. The second one was ok (as in bearable to watch). But really, isn't Tommy Lee Jones getting a little old to be out saving the galaxy?

And I think the word is that the Hobbit Trilogy thing was an April Fool's joke. That's what the comments said anyway. Let's hope it was.

But a Mary-Jane I am not (a little too round, thank you!) and I'm not ethnic looking enough for the villian. Wow, I can't believe Avatar is coming out in just over a year. As much as I don't want to give the movie any of my money, I'm tempted to go watch it while roaring drunk and make rude remarks at the screen.

*tear* It would be the only way to cope.

Also, grr at The Hobbit. I hate the idea of the 'bridge movie' because it just screams "Hi we want more money off the franchise", but TWO?? That's totally unnecessary.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:40 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] reticent-lass.livejournal.com
No! Wait for it to get out online, THEN get roaring drunk and watch it.

I'll bet it'll come out at our local drive-in. They always show two movies. If I can convince myself that I'm only spending money on the second movie, and I sneak in lots of friends who don't pay, and I don't buy any merchandise relating to this stinking heap of crap... I will watch it, take notes, and swear freely at the screen throughout.

The thing I find most interesting about that (very well-made, very effective) Keira Knightley PSA is that the concept worked from her own public persona to create this character of an actress with a really nice flat and a presumably equally shiny life--the angle these ads tend to go for around here is the working/middle-class stay at home mum who can't afford to get way from an abusive partner even if she were emotionally capable of it; and here is a portrayal of exactly the same issue striking a (presumable) star. I like the angle--maybe this way there can be a highlight on the emotional/psychological issues at the root of this sort of abuse rather than just the old focus on the economic issue. [/soapbox]

Also, WTF, Twilighters? You know you've got a shiny brand of crazy going on when you make marrying Snape on the astral plane look tame.
