Filthy, nasty, stormy weather today. In yet more evidence that I am wholly solar-powered, I did nothing but curl up in the recliner and watch episodes of A Haunting on the Discovery Channel (the one about Dartford Cemetery was particularly good, if cheesy) and shudder at the mere thought of being a productive member of society.

Also, nothing came for me in the mail today. Sadface.

they're taking away [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily?! Do they realize how much shit people have bought because of that site? That's the only reason I have the first volume of The Order, or Maus, or Ex Machina, or Young Avengers, or practically any comics at all. [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily was how I vetted a character, or an artist, or a writer or a series or pretty much any comics purchase ever. It was a great way to expose webcomics, too. We were careful; there was always less than half a comic book up, if that, and we gave all credit to the artists and writers and urged everyone to buy anything particularly good. It was GREAT and now it's GONE.

LJ stole [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. That's scans every day.

And that's TERRIBLE.

Oh, jeez, I really wish they'd stay the hell away from remaking Arthur. For fuck's sake, that's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I really don't want Russell Brand anywhere goddamn NEAR it.

Now, you might make me reconsider if it were Robert Downey Jr. Granted, he's already played an amusing billionaire destined to tip headfirst into alcoholism, but he's already played an amusing billionaire destined to tip headfirst into alcoholism.

Of course, it's still a big "might," and that's mostly because regardless of the fact that I've seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall and am vaguely familiar with his work in Britain, all I can think about is when Amy Winehouse was on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, spent the entire episode patting her fake hair and asking for more liquor, and when the host made a joke that her new thing was crack, her sarcastic response of "Do I look like Russell Brand?" was greeted with enthusiastic agreement by everyone, including her own drunk ass.

Er, yes. NO TOUCH MOVIE. Hmph.

Just because Hugh Jackman declared that the musical is back doesn't mean that they have to start remaking everything. Leave Damn Yankees alone, please, I'm begging you. From here it's a slippery slope; they're already remaking My Fair Lady, and I've made my peace with that, but next they're gonna decide to remake Singin' in the Rain or Cabaret or The Sound of Music and I am going to lose my shit and start killing people.

Date: 2009-02-28 04:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visceralvamp.livejournal.com
Okay, agreed on that. If anyone dares touch Singin' in the Rain (or The Sound of Music), I am going to have a personal vendetta to take care of.

We don't have the dancers to handle films that were made with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire (or Cyd Charisse or Ann Miller etc). If someone can present me with someone with such a dancing ability, then maybe we can start talking about making serious dance-heavy musicals. Maybe.

Some new musicals would be nice, actually. Leave the old ones be and think up something original, for once. (Ignoring the fact that Singin' in the Rain is composed of mostly recycled songs. The plot was new. That's what counts.)

I saw 'that movie' last week, thanks to a free college screening. Your unending wank was not preparation enough; the quotes, the Volvo, the sequin-face... all real. In a real movie. Holy frijoles, I was still hoping that was all just an in-joke. Then a gigantic accident blocked off bus traffic, so I had to walk home, and thanks to a moment of weakness/good Samaritanism, I got to try to be nice to a Twifan who was trying to convince me that the books are even better. I no longer feel sorry for RPattz; he didn't even start phoning it in until he sparkled for a girl. The radio shared my angst, though; the JackFM commercial said they could suit my every mood "from deep bran muffin to angry beige" between Freefalling and One Bitten, Twice Shy. Not even kidding.

The best part was, when Edward *finally* got somewhere near Bella's face and kissed her, someone in the packed audience yelled "Hoor!" really loud. Everybody LOL'd and the moment was spoiled :P.

You know, if they cut it off before Edward showed up, they could have made a cute if forgettable indie movie about an ice queen girl who was melted by the warm welcome of her new town. I was way more intrigued by the peripheral Forks characters than I ever was about the Cullens. SMeyer, stop ruining my good last name with your gorram not-vamps. Also, Jacob = hotness. Why am I always team werewolf?

Sorry for the vent, but no one I know in RL has any idea what Twilight is, and my brother just bought me the first book... because he knows how much I like books, and how much he likes Twilight. Your day could have be worse.

[livejournal.com profile] scans_daily suspended? Well, crap! You KNOW I am all about protecting copyrights, but honestly, in some instances places like [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily HELP copyright owners. I mean, when I want to tell someone why I love Deadpool, I point them towards a bit of Deadpool scanned online, so they can see the comic. But it's not like if they like it, they're going to be able to read all...what, hundred to two hundred Deadpool comics. It's like catching a show on TV for the first time - keeps you coming back for more! (Of course, it could have been just some random person who complained, not a copyright owner at all. But you know what I mean).

Fuck, why do I keep commenting on Twilight stuff here? GOD.

Anyway, as much as I love KStew's total haterade on Twilight, I am annoyed that her attitude is kind of throwing RPattz under the bus. I thought they were all in this crazy business together, and attempting to look like you're taking the "high road" just seems disingenuous. You are involved in a ridiculous franchise - EM EFFING OWN IT. Also, she's only 18 so she has tons of time to make non-shitty movies. I'm just saying.

Can I also say how excited/curious I am about the Scott Pilgrim movie? Eeee!

Fuck, why do I keep commenting on Twilight stuff here? GOD.

I know how you feel.

I think the reason the reaction to KStew has been so negative is because, unlike RPattz, she doesn't seem to have a sense of humor about...well, anything. She strikes me as a typical, angry teenager who's trying to act like an adult but comes off as a bitch. But no one forced her to do these movies; if she thought Twilight was stupid, she shouldn't have signed the contract.

I have to say yay for the Neverending Story remake too! The second movie was a childhood favorite of mine, and I went through most of my life completely oblivious to the fact that there was an actual book. So last August when I came across it in a used book store ("Wait, there's a NOVEL?"), I read it and then went back and watched the first and second movies...totally changed everything for me. First of all...Coreander-Koreander, what? I was sad that they left out the whole "Three B's, that's odd." "Yours has three Cs." part, and Bastien never leaves Fantas(t)i(c)a. There's tons of stuff I think they should have left in there (the jungle, the rainforest, Bastien being tubby, him turning into a handsome tanned prince, the city of lost emperors etc etc). So yeah. I hope they do it justice this time. [/ramble]

Man, The Neverending Story was the best book ever. It had so much detail and magic in it. If they try to do another adaptation straight from the book, I will at the very least be interested. Although if they just go 'eh, lets just take the original film and add a few new scenes and cgi' I will be deeply unimpressed.

Still, its not like they ever stopped making (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0271308/) adapatations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neverending_Story#Adaptations). I actually didn't mind the live-action tv series. It adopted a lot of the feel of the novel.

I got to say, comparatively, that I actually liked the movie better than the book, which is very unusual for me. But then, I've been watching Neverending Story since I was still young enough to be terrified of the Nothing, especially when it becomes that wolf (...okay, so maybe that -still- scares me. A little. Just a tad.) But I think it's mostly because Bastian, in the book, is not a sympathetic character throughout a lot of it, at least the latter half when he comes to Fantasia. And I know, that's part of the story, he's got to grow and learn his lessons and so forth and so on...but what can I say? Movie-Bastian is just so nice and cute and I just want to pat the boy on the head and give him a cookie.

Though, in the spirit of fair play and full disclosure, I haven't read the book in quite a few years, so my memories may be a touch hazy.

Also speaking of remakes, I refuse to acknowledge the idea of a new Clue. That is one of my all-time favorite movies, and there is no way it can live up to that, if only because they will never, ever, be able to find such a cast again.
