Huzzah! My college roommate (Valkyrie) and her husband (Dr. Typo, for those of y'all who used to read the Daily Digest) had their baby today! Baby Typo is seven pounds or thereabouts and 21 inches long. Also, we all haunted Dr. Typo's Facebook this morning once word got out that they'd gone to the hospital--we sat there refreshing madly while he updated his status from his iPhone, and the Lovely Emily (my other college roommate) can't get Facebook at work, so I relayed all the news to her via email. Of course, he disappeared for long stretches of time, quite reasonably, as he needed to actually be with Valkyrie and not liveblog the whole thing. Ah, modernity.

(While we were waiting, Em and I discussed Breaking Dawn, which she had just read for the first time. Appropriate!)

Petty distress: my face is all red and dry and sensitive and itchy (like a sunburn, actually), and I'm not sure why, except that I used a Bare Minerals "Rev-Upper" moisturizer (um. Twice) that was more than a year old, and it might have made my face angry. (Something similar, but less dire, happened when I used a really old sample of Philosophy's Hope in a Jar.) All I know is, it's really unpleasant, and I'm to the point where I'm trying not to touch or wash or think about it at all, if possible. Just slathering on my regular moisturizer and a little apple cider vinegar/water solution (actually a pretty good natural cleanser).

Interestingly, my complexion's the clearest it's been in a long time. Except for, you know. The burning. I'm this close to raiding the pantry for oatmeal to slap on, quite honestly; the aloe plant on the deck should fear for its life. On the upside, I will never need blush again.

I've got hyper-sensitive skin, and yeah, it hurts just thinking about yours, because I know exactly how what you described feels.

And I'm a hypocrite for lecturing anybody on this when I'm a sinner myself, but spot tests are your face's BFF.

Hope you feel better! :)

See, it snuck up on me because I'd used the Bare Minerals stuff several times before with no problem. Just... I'd used it a long time ago. When it was new. And not aged and scary. And the Hope in a Jar stuff, I actually did spot-test that, and it was great for about two weeks... and then it got weird on me. Apparently I'm just going to have to keep using my tried and true Olay for the rest of my life.

Which Olay are you using? Enable me!

Good on you for the spot tests. I sometimes forget--bad, bad, bad for me.

I've actually been very successful with Aveeno's stuff, any of their line. They have 3 different face lotions: Positively Radiant, Clear Complexion, and Ultra-Calming. Having tried them all, I can say that they are AWESOME. And most of their stuff is hypoallergenic and although it's slightly expensive, they last for approx. 3 months a bottle (using once a day, every day). I've been switching it up between the three for more than a year, and I've been really happy with it..

Nothing wrong with Olay! It's what I and my mum use, and what my nana always used (except in those days it was called Oil of Ulan, which sounds a bit more exotic), and my mum has skin that explodes when you look at it funny. I've never quite dared to use anything but Olay.

Yeah, my mother's been using it as long as I can remember (so, roughly 30 years, at least), except that it was called Oil of Olay then. I guess no one wants anything called "Oil of" now. It's pretty much the only thing that's ever worked for me, so I figured we must be genetically predisposed for it to suit us, or something.

I vote not overburdening your face at the moment with more products and just letting it heal...maybe some ice/ cold cloths would help. Hope you feel better!

Yeah, it sucks, but I'm pretty sure more products and even more washing is just going to make it worse. I'm using the water/vinegar solution once a day just to help get the flaking off, and I've heard that soothes sunburns sometimes, so it's worth a shot. I really think now that what I did was give myself a mild chemical burn--it was this product, which has a couple of different acids in it. And now that I look at the reviews, one says,

I have super sensitive skin and this did nothing for it other than make my skin burn all day. I got this in my get started kit 5 years ago and I haven't gotten another bottle and I will never get another bottle... Thankfully I don't believe this comes with the get started kits anymore.

Brigit Tree Magic Balm. I live by it for facial irritation, including dryness, burning, and mysterious bumps that aren't acne. I tube of the stuff lasts for ages.

Ouch. Well, if you can, try to get some kefir, buttermilk or curd cheese, those are considered good sunburn remedies here in Poland. Good luck.
