I woke up with a horrific migraine and a weird stomachache this morning--the second time both have happened in a week, actually, which is a bit disconcerting. If it turns out to be a half-vampire baby, I'm going to name it Nellouise Baseball Jones--so I sacked out half-conscious on the couch and watched Olympic beach volleyball for an hour or two (apparently Gibb and Rosenthal are really good, because the announcer kept screaming "Rosenthal! ROSENTHAL!!" like he was in bed with them). At some point, there was swimming. It was all kind of a blur.

I spent the afternoon here in my computer watching Men's Water Polo while my kids watched their movies in the playroom. The point is...I still don't know the how or why that is a game at the Olympics, though the fact badminton is a sport you can medal in is kinda awesome.

:D

"What male roles would you like to see played by a woman?"

Just about ALL of them! I'm so sick of the limited stereotypes roles available for women in Hollywood. That also goes for anyone non-white. Casting directors must be the least creative people in the world...(hyperbole, but you know what I mean.)

While watching the men's gymnastics last night, I spent an awful lot of time going "WHOA" and "HOLY SHIT" - and then Michael Phelps was in the water and I spent a lot of time going... well... "WHOA" and "HOLY SHIT".

I fucking love the Olympics!

I had, however, forgotten all about the ice dancing carnage. HE DROPPED HER AND SHE LOOKED SO PISSED, HOW COULD I FORGET THAT?!

And then they didn't even speak to each other until after they had finished the NEXT NIGHT'S routine! And they were also wearing froofy costumes at the time! The Summer Olympics cannot hope to compare. Although the toned mannage on display is a commendable effort.

The Spirit, for its Eisner pedigree, worries me greatly. I hope it doesn't become the cultural antidote for The Dark Knight.

The Hawaii 5-0 theme is about one of the perfect pieces of art in any medium. Just about anything is better with its inclusion.

Unfortunately, it does tend to lodge itself in the forebrain, so I had to watch Owls (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/Owls/) to get it out again.

One of the few truly nifty things about the American State of Play remake is that Bill Nighy's role (a newspaper editor) is now being played by Helen Mirren. Why the hell not? (Well, except for the stretch of credibility it takes to believe an Englishwoman would be the chief editor of a Washington Post-esque paper.)

That "Is Twilight Anti-Feminist?" article made me *headdesk* The relationship isn't abusive because Bella hits Edward up for sex? Yeah. Right. Sure. Having your property destroyed and your autonomy denied is totally okay if you want to sleep with the person doing it.

Why are they calling "The Brothers Bloom" a "Brick" follow-up? Aside from being made by the same guy, they don't seem to have anything to do with each other.

Interesting stuff. 'Benjamin Button' and "The Time Traveler's Wife" (another Rachel McAdams) are both on my list now.

And Dane Cook made me laugh harder in that entry than he did in all 2 hours of "Good Luck Chuck". Nice!

I don't believe the article addressed anything about anti-feminism. There are arguments against it, quite good ones, and she used none of them. It was sort of all over the place.

Yeah. I talked about why Twilight (as in, the first book) was abusive on my journal a week or so ago, and the reasons didn't have anything to do with sex or Bella's self control as a vampire. It has to do with Edward being completely and utterly dominating and erratic, and doing things like spying on her through her friend's brain, and then telling her, "I wish you wouldn't think certain things." Um, excuse me? How is that sexy? That's creepy stalkery.

I kind of prefer the winter olympics for the sheer number or wierd-ass sports that HAVE to have originated as drunken mid-winter bar bets.

But yeah - watching Phelps jump around and scream at the relay finals - I kind of hoped thought his suit was going to slip down.
