Sweeney Todd: Can't stop listening to soundtrack, plz send help. The extras on the second disc are fairly decent, by the way. No commentary, but--have you ever heard a Tim Burton commentary? Forget a Depp and Burton commentary--the one on Sleepy Hollow was Mumbletown all the way. But there's a few good bits on the costumes (which, if you've spent any time on this journal, you will know is the really important thing), plus some recording studio footage on the first disc, and a number of tangentially related featurettes (Did you know? Victorian London kind of sucked if you were poor! Sweeney Todd may or may not have been a real person! There's a theater in San Francisco that still does Grand Guignol plays today, and OH GOD WAS THAT AN EYEBALL AUGH WTF).

Speaking of eyeballs (~augh~) there was a "Forty Freakiest Concert Moments" thing on VH1 today that Sister Girl was watching, and they really, really need to stop showing that shot of David Bowie with a lollipop stick IN HIS EYE without warning people. Don't bring us back from commercials with that shit!

Anyway. Well, here's a dumb question: who would be interested in an annotated Movies in Fifteen Minutes? Just, in pencil, in the margins of one of the hardcovers--a one-of-a-kind handwritten thing. (It has to be in pencil, because I can't write in the margins of a book with pen. I just can't. It's sacrilege.) I could also print out all the existing online 15Ms, as a separate auction, and annotate them by hand? It's kind of weird to propose this, though, because it sounds like I'm completely full of myself to even suggest it, but it's one of those things--if you need money, and you think there's the slightest chance anyone would want something, you'll toss any idea out there no matter how ridiculous it sounds. Thoughts?

ETA: Yes, I know, bookplates. I have a large pile of self-addressed stamped envelopes to send those out in, to people who requested them an embarrassingly long time ago; I was just never able to get one that looked the way I wanted, and again, it's been such an embarrassingly long time that I may just need to swallow my aesthetic pride and do something much simpler. Point being, I don't want to charge people for signed bookplates. I just... I can't explain it, I just feel like I shouldn't take money for that. A signed book, you know, at least you're paying for the book itself as well. I don't know. So yes, I still need to do the bookplate thing, but that's an issue separate from needing to raise money to pay taxes.

I suggested this to you, long ago in a tax bracket far far away, but.... here it goes again.

Your inventory of Teh Book is low. That need not be a problem, since most people who care ::raises hand:: already have one. Just not signed.

So, t'would seem a logical, and even slightly green, solution to mutual problems if we Admiring Fans either (a) sent our books to you for autographing or (b) you ordered a couple boxes of ex libris labels and signed and sent those out for some modest payment.

Even a few bucks a book would make a difference, non?

I second this idea. I have a copy of the hardback. I sometimes re-read it (it's one of my stack of bedside books actually, because some nights when I can't get to sleep, and I want something funny and relaxing to read, it's great to dip into.) I'd be happy for a signed label to stick in it, and would be prepared to pay something for that.

I don't think I'd want to post you the whole book. I'm in the UK, and postage to-and-fro might be quite a lot. But a signed label could go in an envelope, and if you factored international postage into it, and if there was a handy PayPal link to make payments with, that would work.

Cleo, I would totally be interested in an annotated copy of the book. Through some strangeness in the universe, I still don't own a copy, and since I'd really like to get one eventually, an annotated one would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure there are other people out there like me who would be interested in something like that.

Woah, life was hard for the poor in Victorian London? *head explodes* I'm willing to bet they also had extreme forms of punishment and a corrupt justice system! And here I was all haughty because I knew that Victorian people ate in the because they thought it helped digestion. I'm such a n00b.

re: M15M, this probably doesn't help, but I'd buy a copy -- annotations or not (although that would be pretty cool). Hell, you could spit in the copy if you want to.

You've left out a word and now I'm obsessing over what it could have been. They ate in the greenhouse? In the cab? In the bath? In the nude? ...ack!

Yes. I would be interested in buying M15M annotated. In fact - assuming it's not too expensive, I would pretty much guarantee that I would buy that. I find the thoughts behind writing just as interesting at the writing itself.

I might buy an annotated book if I didn't already have a copy. As my finances go right now, I couldn't justify having 2.

What about, like...short stories with Tuckerizations or something?

I would totally be interested in an annotated M15M, and I'm not just saying that now but I wouldn't buy it - I would buy it. I already have a copy of the book (sitting next to me right now, because I've been showing it to a friend), but I'd buy the annotated version too. I'd buy the printed-annotated copy as well, because that would include POTO in 15 Minutes, which is my personal favorite. (You could also unearth Novellas Of the Night to pair with that somehow.)

An annotated book would be great if I didn't already have a copy. I still think adding some stuff to the Cafe Press store would be less work and bring in more money. You've done a lot of M15s since that store was last updated, so it's not like you'd have the same sort of commitment problem that could arise with a new M15.

Well, like I said, there would only be one copy of the hand-annotated book. I imagine it would appeal most to someone who didn't have one (but had read the online parodies at least).

I also already own a copy of the book (I managed to track it down while I was in a British airport for two hours) - but I would LOVE to have an annotated copy. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to afford it if it got over, say, $50 (which would pushing it, anyway) - but annotated printouts would be amazing too.

Yes yes yes to the annotated stuff. Especially annotated online stuff. I'd imagine that would be the least in overhead costs to you, and less of an effort as you'd only have to do one m15m as opposed to the entire book's worth, and I'd totally pay for handwritten asides written on one of the original m15m stuff. Nice.
