YAYS, my Aromaleigh samples came in!

As previously mentioned, this is my (early) birthday present to myself. I got a ton of similar colors for the express purpose of trying them out side by side, to figure out which one(s) I like best--at $1 a sample, I figure I'm good for it. I have very deep-set eyes, so I can't wear terribly dark colors; I'm mostly looking at softer, lighter shades. After some deliberation, I have decided that I am neither a cool nor a warm, but rather a neutral, and I think I might actually try some of their foundation powders next. I've had better luck with Bare Escentuals (also a loose mineral makeup) than with other powder or liquid foundations, but it's still not quite as invisible-feeling as I'd like, and, again: one dollar per sample at Aromaleigh. Even an entire container would be cheaper than Bare Escentuals. It's worth trying.

(All of my heterosexual male readers just ran off to chug beer or headbutt each other like frightened deer or something.)

I think I'm down to Wish ("A peachy golden pink with slight iridescence") or Aurora ("A pinky-beige plush matte base scattered with tiny shimmers of blue and pink. Fit for a princess." I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE) at this point. Hell, if I'm going to bed anyway, I might as well just do each eyelid a different color.

As for the three lipstick samples, I think I will start with Nuance, and then maybe the Rosewood blush.

(OH MY GOD SHE'S TALKING ABOUT BLUSH, RUN AWAY!)

Oh, and I still need to do photo tests of their three Twilight powders for you. FOR SCIENCE. After which I will probably break into a Twilight Merchandise Curse rash. (...What? How do you think I got The Littlest Edward to sparkle?) OH OH I HAVE MORE TWILIGHT CANDY TO TRY because I am fearless. And apparently suicidal.

I'm still getting used to Lizzie's touchpad mouse, but I think we can have a little more linkspam.

While I am super thrilled Cate Blanchett will be returning as Galadriel... I don't actually remember her being in The Hobbit anywhere. Admittedly, I haven't read the book in at least seven years, so my mind could have glossed over any references to her, but still...

And yet, CATE. DO WANT.

I am 99.9% certain she does not appear until FOTR. And I totally don't care. I am actually most excited to see if they will do up some new dresses for her, because I'm like that.

I should be ashamed to admit this, but I not only own samples of the Twilight sparkle powders from Aromaleligh, but purchased a full-size jar of Lustre, which is the lowest level of sparkle. Because I've always had a weakness for shimmery makeup, and the Lustre powder is a good-quality, subtle shimmer.

I really, really don't want to think about Eclipse in IMAX. That is just terrifying.

Date: 2009-12-10 03:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I so, so want to buy my own full-size jar(s). I know I want Lustre, because yeah, it's very low-key and versatile. But I kind of want the other two as well to dress up regular eyeshadow or use as highlighter. Not, like, to coat myself in.

(I actually wore a combination of Lustre and Dazzle as eyeshadow to the New Moon preview, and it was so subtle that no one even noticed. Probably because they were too busy staring at the woman with glitter spackled over her entire face.)

Of course Cate Blanchett would have to play Galadriel. The two movies only happen 54 years apart, and she is 27,000 years old. Shouldn't have aged a day.

Nice to see Elrond will also be played by Hugo Weaving, even though he is a relative pipsqueak (and a quarter Numenorean, on his father's side.)

P.S.) What is this Aromaleigh of which you speak? $1 eyeshadow samples?! I'm always looking to try new eyeshadow, anything to make my teeny tiny eyes look bigger.

It's all-mineral makeup, and they have HUNDREDS of colors. Sometimes I just go to that page and gaze lovingly. They also have blush, lipstick, foundation, finishing powders, illuminators, so on and so forth. It's dizzying. And you can get a tiny little sample packet-bag of pretty much anything for $1 each, as many as you want--they encourage it, actually.

You know why I originally chose purple? I felt like pink was too sugary, but blue might get a little depressing over time. Purple felt like a nice compromise. It actually wasn't my favorite color at the time--scarlet red was. But I mostly wear blues and purples in terms of clothes, so I decided to go with something in that range. And over time, that medium-light shade of purple has actually become, sincerely, my favorite color.

I'm mostly just concerned that after six years of existing on LJ as a Yahoo Avatar or a Galadriel picture, I can't do anything but inevitably disappoint people when they see the real thing.

Um, the first three Twilight movies in IMAX: DO NOT WANT. Breaking Dawn? I'm not sure I'll be able to handle that (depending on how seriously the movie takes itself) on a regular screen. Let's not even go there with the IMAX...

@cleolinda: Oh God, can you imagine how obvious the actors' contacts will be when they're 50 feet tall? RETHINK THIS.

For the New Moon premiere, we were ushered from the theater we were originally intended to be in, and instead directed to another one. We all shrugged it off, until about 5 minutes before midnight, someone came on a speaker and told us that we were the first people to be in the theater's newly, like finished-an-hour-ago IMAX theater. The theater let out a cheer, and my crew and I kind of just stared at each other an horror/amazement/oh god are they really doing this. Then the person explained that while the movie wouldn't actually be in IMAX, the sound quality and picture quality would still be better. And I don't know, when the movie started playing, it did seem a bit bigger than a normal theater movie... But not IMAX huge. Though the only IMAX movie I've seen was a few years ago, when IMAX was new, about dolphins or something.

Anyway, even in the not-really-IMAX, I could totally see Kristen Stewart's contacts. I didn't even know she wore them. I tried to pay attention to the vampires' eyes after that and see if I could see their contacts as well. I got distracted pretty soon after, but for the parts I paid attention to their contacts-ness during, I couldn't see any. So maybe they'll digitally smooth it out or something for IMAX.. I hope they do, at least.

Uh, on the LotR-Galadrial's-coming-back link there is a minor problem of the journalist NOT KNOWING THE BOOKS. (Nerd alert!) Within the second paragraph they reveal themselves to have never really read the books when they say "humans get their natural life span." BULLSHIT. Aragorn died when he was 210, N00b! The Appendices, people, they are part of the books. Pretty important parts, actually, if you want the whole story.

Actually, Aragorn had a longer than normal lifespan, because he was a Numenorean and a descendant of the half-elven king of Numenor. So he's a special case, and most humans actually don't live that long.

I was always really itchy when I used Bare Escentuals, but Aromaleigh is A+! (I bought some after you posted about them last year.) I love that stuff so much.

*snort* Like you have hetero male readers...

I've never tried Aromaleigh but you're making me want to!

Oh, speaking of computers, I'm finally narrowing down what I want. I am going to end up with a Studio too, but haven't yet decided between the Studio 17 and the Studio XPS 16. Need to run down the options for the 16 first to see what comes out best with prices and features. But can I tell you? I was almost drooling at the thought of how sleek and fast my new laptop is going to be. I WANTS IT NOOOOW. Heh.

So this is incredibly off topic, but I happened to be perusing my local Half Price Books and found about seven copies of your book! I squealed like an insane person and my fiancee thought I'd completely lost my marbles.

I had to restrain myself from buying up all of them... but it was a little surreal to see, in print, the works of someone I've been a fan of for so long :3
