Been having a really hard time the last few days. Don't even really want to talk about it, although suffice it to say that it's not just me feeling pitiful, it's me actually trying not to get sucked into a number of different people's dramaz and not entirely succeeding. I'm trying to space the entries several days apart, but if The Secret Life of Dolls seems to move at a brisk pace over the next week or so, it's because I find working on that to be both comforting and distracting.

Linkspam--before we get into the grim stuff: ICE CREAM DEATHMATCH! If you'll excuse me, I have a container of Heavenly Hash I want to crawl into now.

I really hope your week gets better. I've always found the 4th to be a major letdown, but I hope something fun/exciting happens for ya.

I have to say, I wasn't all that excited about the Alice in Wonderland movie until I saw the concept art for it. It looks BEAUTIFUL.

While I have nothing to do with vampire stuff, I admit that the premise for Daybreakers is kind of nifty. Also? Sam Neill as (what looks like from the trailer, anyway) a baddie. So, there's that.

I don't understand why people feel the need to remake and Americanize a brilliant film like "Let the Right One In"--I'm sorry, but I will be skeptical that it can beat the original until I see it. In any case I think it is WAY too soon to be doing a remake!

I do think the new title, "Let Me In" is interesting though, because that is actually what the Spanish title of the original Swedish film is--"Dejame entrar". I guess the Spanish then are snazzier at translating their titles in this case, though I'm not sure how they'll make a distinction between the two movies when the American title is now the same....I actually think the Spanish translation of "Let Me In" has a nicer ring to it!

Also I hope there's a Mooonlight movie, we need one! (Sciwire is wrong when it says the vampire craze came too late to save ML, it was already here, and CBS just didn't care!)

I actually like the title "Let the Right One In," because--before anyone even hears what the movie's about, you've got the tension of potentially making a bad choice ("the right one").

Robert Englund is such a class act. I loved him praising JEH that way; that has to be such an ego boost. And I had no idea Clancy Brown is in Nightmare! I guess he's Nancy's dad?

I disagree with him about one thing: I do hope they keep the classic Freddy silhouette. That's one of the most iconic images in horror.

Date: 2009-07-02 04:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] acaciakitty.livejournal.com
I agree. I'm still reserving judgment, because Nightmare is what I was ALL ABOUT as a kid. (Hey, I was a little grown up for my age.)

As a rule, though, remakes break my heart. I also feel they will never be able to capture the...fun of the original. No one will be able to crack off those awful puns and one liners like Englund.

I have to say, I'm surprised Molly Sudgen was still alive. I always thought she was so much older when she was filming Are You Being Served....

And....I've decided that it's the Rapture - celebrity version. (like a version of Trivial Pursuit, but with much further-reaching consequences).

And, considering the variety of people this is touching.....what does this say about the rest of us?

(Yes, I'm a heathen...*sigh*).

If Bill Nighy is Scrimgeour, I'll... I'll...

I don't know what I'll do, but it'll be so fucking awesome that somebody, some day, will write a book about it. That book will then be adapted into a film.

And in that film, I will be played by Bill Nighy, even though I am a 25 year old woman.

And it will be amazing.

Why have I not heard about the Let the Right One In remake? And, more importantly, why is it even being made? I hate that all these creatively challenged directors are like "I respect the movie so much, which is why I think I can do a better job with the material! Except, that's not really what I meant... oh wait, it totally was!" And again, the "American audiences can't appreciate it unless it's Americanized LOL!"

RAAAAGE.

ITA. The whole thing is so stupid....

Though in some ways I do agree with the title change, though maybe because that's how I first heard the title when it came out in Spain--"Dejame entrar" or "Let Me In". It really has a whole different set of connotations and meaning than "Let the Right One In"....

remakes noooooo

Yay for Maeby!! I'd love to see her in more stuff.

On a Twilight side-note, guess what my old high school's ball theme is... I was just wondering recently whether Twilight would be the compulsory ball/prom theme throughout high schools for the next four years or so. I'm tempted to pop in a cameo as Renesme, and show these kids how professionals carry out theme details.
"Listen. If you make the theme Twilight, expect a bloody, mutant, rapid-developing fetus to turn up! This shit is canon."
"But you don't even go here, you graduated like five years ago-"
"It's still in the damn book!"

I don't think Nighy's playing Scrimgeour, especially since the guy is mostly in THBP. Except I don't see Scrimgeour listed in the cast on IMDB for the 6th movie...hmm. Does that mean no conversation with the Prime Minister, and they cut out Scrimgeour trying to sweet talk Harry over Christmas break as well as towards the end? Sigh.

Yes! I hope they make the Moonlight movie soon (maybe on Alex O'Loughlin's break between seasons of Three Rivers?), they left way too much up in the air in the season finale. And hey, that Daybreakers movie looks good. I've loved Ethan Hawke since Gattaca. And Sam Neil since Merlin.
