And afterwards, there was cake

A few things (omg so behind on answering email/comments):

From [livejournal.com profile] mercuryandrain: "I was wondering if you could do me a HUGE favor and plug the Support Stacie auction sometime this week in one of your linkspam posts? Stacie is fighting high stage III breast cancer without the help of health insurance. This coming weekend (April third through sixth) a multi-fandom fanfic auction is taking place - people will bid on their favorite authors, and the highest bidder gets a story tailor-made to their specifications. Over 100 authors are participating at last count, from Roswell, Twilight, Dr. Who, Gilmore Girls and Harry Potter among other fandoms. Her website is http://www.supportstacie.net, and the website where the auction will take place is http://www.majiksfanfic.com/phpbb. There is also an LJ comm dedicated to the cause: [livejournal.com profile] supportstacie."

[livejournal.com profile] countessmary has put up (with my blessing) some "Twilight Means Never Having to Say You're Kidding" t-shirts to raise money for prizes for the YA Lit track at Dragon*Con.

The Littlest Edward is famous! And I mentioned this the other day somewhere--Twitter?--but while we're here: Biker Barbie with pink chaps. Ya rly.

Also, I have to show you this, because it brought light and joy into my life: VAMPIRE CLOAKS FOR DOLLS OMG. THE ALL-BLACK ONE HAS A COLLAR LIKE A BATWING OR A SPIDERWEB OR SOME SHIT, LOOK AT THAT! OMFG A BLACK POET SHIRT, I CAN'T STAND IT. It's like what Bella would make Edward wear if she felt kinky or something.

Follow-up on that Joker figure: Turns out it's not a two-pack; it's one figure with two outfits and two heads, so you get both your Police Officer Joker and your Classic Oh My God He's Going to Explode My Cat Joker all in one. The price I heard was $175 or thereabouts, with the release coming sometime this summer (end of second quarter to beginning of third quarter, somewhere in there). Full gallery here (OMG LOOK AT HIS EVIL LITTLE SUSPENDERS), in which you can see "an interchangeable and new make-up Joker head featured with Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) and Translucent Iris."

Once again, ladies and gentlemen: that is a doll.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of movie news tonight, which is good, because that means I can get some work in before our power's cut off for six hours tomorrow (they're working on the lines). So, in case you didn't catch that--I may potentially be offline, in the dark, and unavailable from 8 am to 2 pm.

I have stared and stared at those Joker pics and I still</> can't believe that it's a doll.

I also wish that the 3D movie thing would stop--or have non-3D versions. They totally give me headaches. :(

[identity profile] ericadawn16.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, I got lucky with Monsters vs Aliens, but Coraline was almost all 3D so I had to really hunt for a regular theatre that first weekend...

I've had photosensitive seizures in the past so 3D also gives me a headache at the least and makes me want to vomit at the worst and even a couple of scenes of regular Coraline gave me a headache.

At the very least they should be understanding under the Americans with Disabilities act...it's bad enough that I have to keep sunglasses on me at all times because I never know when a film will have a sequence with strobe lighting or flashing.

I'm not sure I like that MSNBC article about the Sherlock Holmes movie. They make it seem like Robert Downey Jr. is intentionally turning the film into something like Iron Man.
Holmes falling for Irene Adler does not make him a "ladies man," in my opinion. I understand them adding romance and it's not that much of a stretch. Still very excited for the movie.

[identity profile] persian-freak.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I always felt like they had a thing going, Irene and Sherlock. I think them making Irene a hardcore criminal mastermind is the bigger stretch, really.

Wow, I really have to say I am not a fan of the new Barbie face design. Old Barbie looked like she wanted to be your friend and have a tea party with you, and quite possibly be an astronaut. New Barbie just looks like she wants to bitchslap you. (Unless that face is unique to biker Barbie.)

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I am not a fan of the New Barbie Face they've had for a few years now. It really looks like a face they've been making for adults and adult collectors--a very celebutante kind of face. I liked the sweeter, less "sexy" face a lot better.

Boy, I hate the Anita Blake books. Fervent, absolute hatred. I don't even find any redeeming lulz in them like I did in Twilight.

Though I will admit that Book 1 Anita was ok enough, and that with a good actress and decent writing perhaps I won't feel the need to bang my head on my coffee table when I run across the promos.

"an interchangeable and new make-up Joker head featured with Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) and Translucent Iris."

Translation: if you think you may have any lingering Uncanny Valley issues, this ain't the collectible for you. I have a doll that comes with a mechanism that in theory changes the position of the eyes. In reality you can get one not-so-bad position, and then press the little tab thing to watch the eyes look in two completely different directions at once. Hopefully the system on the Joker doll works better.

Man, that Joker looks awesome though. I'd totally preorder him except a)I don't know if I have anything sufficiently heavy enough to weigh down the lid of his box at night and b)no funds. :(

[identity profile] kitrinlu.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm torn between wanting you to get a Joker doll, and knowing that if you do, SLoD will give me nightmares from then on. And it might kill you in your sleep :(

But still, that is one amazing doll.

Am I the only one kinda creeped out by all these dolls with interchangeable heads/limbs?

[identity profile] evilbearhunter.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's definitely not just you who's creeped out. I mean, the moving eyes are terrifying and all, but you will have a teeny tiny unattached Joker head somewhere in your life at all times if you own this doll. Also, dressing and undressing that doll to get it to wear the different outfits would be a nightmare.
