I think Facebook is insecure in it's own identity. For a while it was FB, then it was trying to be MySpace, and now with this new update, I think it's trying to be Twitter. And it needs to stop. I'm sick of the constant updates to my homepage. Just when I learn the old one, a new one comes out. Booooo.

HEY LOOK, MOOOOOORE AVATAR FAILCASTING! I'm never seeing this movie... what a hot mess. *retreats with her boxsets of all three seasons*

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think Facebook needs to own its Facebookness and establish itself as a brand (which it had done, for a little while), rather than chasing after everyone else's style.

AAARGH! I had forgotten that they were remaking Clash of the Titans. And, oh goody, they got the guy who directed The Incredible Hulk to make it! Because that film wasn't just an unnecessary reboot of a much superior film, but with worse actors and piss-poor effects.

Look, the original was not a great film. (Don't even get me started on Bubo the Komic Relief Robo-Owl) But the original had Ray Harryhausen's special effects and Maggie Smith as the "villainous" goddess. This remake will no doubt have the same shitty CGI effects as always and a cast of beautiful people who will make Harry Hamlin look like Johnny Depp by comparison.

Come on, Hollywood! Do you realize how many other awesome Greek myths are out there that haven't gotten a much-deserved big-screen treatment? (Or at least, not a good one) Theseus and the Minotaur, Bellerophon and the Chimaera, The Odyssey, and The Seven Labors of Heracles/Hercules?

Seriously, remaking a Harryhausen film is like...well, remaking King Kong and taking out all the dinosaurs. Nobody went to see the original King Kong to see a gorilla make google-eyes at a vapid actress for nearly two hours, they went to see Kong fight dinosaurs and then wreck the shit out of New York. That's why nobody likes the 1976 version.

Nobody went to Harryhausen films for the acting and the writing, they went to see what the Hell kind of bad-ass bizarre creation Harryhausen would toss up onto the screen next.

It's probably bullshit, but the way Hollywood works these days, I wouldn't be surprised.

This is, after all, the same industry that felt that Hulk needed to be "rebooted" a mere five years later.

Man, the makers of Godzilla would look at Hollywood these days and go, "Dude, go easy on the reboots!"

Nononoo! No more IT. D: I haven't seen the original movie, but the image of Tim Curry in a clown suit scares me so much D: And if recent scary movies fail in storyline/plot and almost everything else, their scary faces are ALWAYS scary.

God knows how mortifying they're making Pennywise T_______T

Paris Hilton in a Twilight movie would make me so much more happy than the Twitards already make me feel sometimes. It'll just get LOLtastic from there.

Also, I don't know if you've mentioned this in the last linkspam, but have you watched the first episode of Twilight the Musical yet?

On Pirates 4, I actually think that if they're going to make it, they have start from scratch almost. The first three movies (which heaven help me, I love every ridiculous moment of) are done now. I'll miss Keira, but her storyline is over, and reviving it would be a great way to get a guaranteed flop. The only hope for this movie is to bring in a new storyline with mostly new characters that are awesome.

Seeing Haley play Freddie might be worth just for the possible in-joke potential. (JohnnY Depp drove Haley to an audition on one of the sequels, which ended up kickstarting his acting career.) It might be a little too much an amalgamation of his recent parts though.

[identity profile] mudpuppy83.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean he drove him to an audition for the original. I remember it well because I've only seen the first Nightmare on Elm Street, and Johnny Depp's incredibly over-the-top death was about the only thing I enjoyed.

Just watched the Stewart/Cramer showdown, and I have to say one thing -- the lack of fact checking is what's wrong with "journalism" today. Cramer goes on there and says "We got lied to! What were we supposed to do?" FACT CHECK. It's what distinguishes you from the company's PR guy. It's the first thing you learn in journalism. Fact check everything, even the spelling of a source's name, to cover your ass and to make sure what you're delivering is the nearest thing to the truth possible. To a large extent, that's probably been a casualty of the current stripping of newspapers to skeleton crews in an attempt to stay solvent, but that shouldn't be CNBC's problem. Hell, the Daily Show crew does a better job of fact checking, and they're an entertainment/comedy show.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
To that end, my favorite parts of the interview were Jon Stewart being like, "Roll 210! ROLL 216!"

I do think he didn't quite go in for the kill, though--watching Cramer squirm, what I really wanted someone to say was, "You're shown on tape telling someone how to manipulate the market. I cannot believe anything you say from here on out." I mean, he pointed this out, but didn't quite go for the fatality there. The closest he got was, "I want this Jim Cramer to protect me from that Jim Cramer."

She also misspelled Seth Rogen's name. Of course, I rather dislike Paltrow in general, so I didn't really need another excuse.

There's actually quite a bit of idiocy in that list. Jon Favreau mentions that Seven Samurai was remade into "Roger Corman's The Last Starfighter". No, Jon, you mean Roger Corman's Battle Beyond the Stars. Corman had nothing to do with The Last Starfighter, and I don't think it had any true resemblance to Seven Samurai, either.

She now resides on my version of The Shelf, getting the side-eye from the Jem crew, who simply cannot deal with this level of awesome. That Directv add was somewhat amusing.....I never saw that requiem for a dream crap, but why wasn't I suprised to see anal in it? Oh, I remember why-because movies are gross.

Obessed Joker fan: Ack.

It's CRAZY Gary Oldman. He's CRAZY!!!

G.I. Joe always seemed like it had the POTENTIAL to be cool (to me) but failed. Epicly.

Never heard of 'the goon' b4. Looks intresting.

When I saw the 'barefoot babe' headline, I thought Angie would be playing some redneck, rather than a spy. (I actually know plenty of 'rednecks' and most of them do wear shoes, but still....)

I want to see this movie just for Ginormica....I wonder, will they make a doll of her? ('cuz I want one).

Like the M vs A images.
