Running a bit behind today

Trufax: I was talking to my sister's boyfriend--we really need to come up with a code name for him, Sister Girl and I decided, but we don't know what yet--on Sunday and he mentioned the Twilight Tonner dolls. Apparently when I was all like YOU GUYS GO TO THE TONNER NYCC BOOTH AND JUST, LIKE... LOOK AT THEM OR SOMETHING FOR ME earlier this month, he did, and he was like, "Who's in charge here? Can we buy 400 of those for our stores?" And the Tonner people were like, "Uh... YES." Apparently it had never occurred to anyone to sell actual dolls at bookstores, even though their rival Borders has been selling the action figures and all the Hot Topic crap. So, uh... if you happen to be at a Books-a-Million and you see the Tonners there as an in-store exclusive, that's... kind of because one of their buyers has a not-quite sister-in-law who's a Crazy Doll Lady. *cough* I mean, I asked Sister Girl, and she said, "No, it totally would have been because of you, that's how he would have heard about the dolls in the first place," although of course he was the one smart enough to actually come up with the idea and get them for the stores.

And the other thing is... I don't have anything solid enough to repeat on this, but they might give Books-a-Million some kind of holiday exclusive, I don't know. It might simply be that Tonner's going to put out more stuff for the holidays, as they do, and Books-a-Million will be the only bookstore selling it, who knows.

Meanwhile, I am TIRED of this head cold. It's just bad enough to make me feel groggy and snerfy, but not bad enough to GET ON WITH IT.

Also: Remind me to tell you about the Bowl of Galadriel. Again. Uh... tomorrow. Like I said: I'm a bit behind.

It's funny you say that because I read their reactions to the whole phenomenon differently. The things he says, while often wildly inappropriate, are hilarious. It comes off as good-natured, like he's befuddled by the whole bizzare thing, but just enjoying the ride.

While every time she opens are mouth she says something that makes she think, God, you're just an ungrateful little bitch, aren't you? She comes off as superior. It's so very very Bella Swan - the nerve of these mundane people to like me and be interested in me! The nerve of people to love a movie I have been in! GAH!

I totally agree with you, anony -- that's a pretty high horse Kristen Stewart has gotten on if what her father says is true. Totally hypocritical to "be" in the movie and make the money, and then to be embarrassed of the association at the Oscars. You're an actress, KS; pretend you have some class.

See, I've seen the ungrateful bitch agrument before--in fact I believe its the post common response to KStewart. I think she's just someone who is trying to do the job while still maintaining her own persona seperate from Bella Swann. I think there's this sense of entitlement in fandoms today where as fans, there's this reaction of 'well if I'm putting this much energy and devotion into this, I feel you (actor/writer/director/ect) should be putting in the same".

And there has been major projecting of fangirl hate onto KSteward because she isn't having the time of her life being involved in Twilight, as well as a bleeding together of general dislike and jealousy of Bella's character with intolerance for the person protraying her. I remember reading a comment to one of the photostills from the movie before the movie was released, this like artsy angled shot after Edward saved Bella from going SMUSH-BY-VAN, and because the scene had Bella listening to music and hence distracted, and someone left the comment like, "Bitch can't even take out her earphones when she's talking to Edward Cullen, stupid cow, he could do better." Seeing things like that and knowing that she knows how the fans feel, really make me respect her as a person.

See, the thing is, I actually think she gave a very good performance in Twilight. I appreciated her work. I thought she did a good job of making a hollow character into a sympathetic realtistic teenage girl. I believe she did put a lot of energy and devotion into the work. Nothing but props on her performance.

What I don't appreciate is the attitude she appears to have about the whole thing. Who knows - may she just interviews badly. But to me, it comes across as more than just not having the time of her life for being involved in it. I don't expect her to be a rabid fangirl - frankly she probably wouldn't have done as good a job with the part if she hadn't been able to look at the thing critically. Her disdain and her contempt for the people who love this thing are silly and snide. As misplaced as those people who hate her because she plays Bella.

I'm sure it's overwhleming to be part of a phenomenon like this. And I'm sure it's hard that there are girls out there who hate her because of the role she gets to play. But she's an actress. That's part of the career she has chosen to pursue. There will be people who love her and hate her and judge her no matter what the role. And it will all be very public. I'd respect her if she put it past her and didn't feel the need to comment on it. She's said in the past that the fan hysteria isn't part of her creative process. I respect that sentiment. If she means it, then she'll just let it go and when asked say exactly that - she's glad people love it so much, but it's unrelated to her. Maybe she'll learn that tact when she's older and more experienced.

I think you can criticise something or make fun of it without coming off as an ungrateful jackass. And if she really hates the project that much, if she doesn't think it was any good - back out of the sequels. But just badmouthing it and looking down on the people who love it? I don't get it.
