I have a gigantic headache and have been away from my desk most of the day--which means, in turn, that I'm hellishly behind on things--so we'll only have a quick essential linkspam today. I would see Dev Patel as more of a Sokka type character. He seems more laid back than angry and intense. Oddly, in that picture I'd say McCartney looks more like Zuko in terms of harsher facial features.

Yep, I was totally thinking Patel strikes me as more of a Sokka - he's lanky and cute like that. But McCartney seemed like the worst casting choice to me (blonde!!!) so...anything to get rid of him, pretty much.

Okay, they're inching closer! I don't know anything about Zuko, but that isn't exactly a South Asian name, is it? Still, they got someone who is not, in fact, as white as a Cullen! There may yet be hope.

Great oversimplification: He's supposed to be Chinese. Of course, I don't think Zuko is even a technically possible Chinese name-- I think it'd be more of a made-up Japanese girl's name, but my grasp of this stuff is not real tight, so whatever.

What I am interested in is this Jessica Jade Anders person. It doesn't say who she's playing, only that she's a protagonist. Is she Suki? Yue? Or are they going to involve Toph in the first movie?

I'd just like to extend a very mature raspberry to all the folks who said yelling at the studio wouldn't make a difference in the Avatar casting, so we should all just lie down and take it. Sure, they're still doing it wrong, but they did make a change. Which shows the yelling counts for something.

I can't think of any literary men worth loving, mostly because my reading tastes tend towards the weird, but if they'll let me stretch the definition to men in any form of fiction I'd date the title character from Chuck in a heartbeat.

What kills me about the list of do-able literary heroes is that EDWARD CULLEN IS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THEM. That is a list of some of literature's best -- in no way should Edward Cullen be in the same category as Darcy, Rochester, or Rhett.

If they're going to add anyone, they should start with characters who actually, let's see, have legitimate flaws and are human, and whose books are not slowly eating away at the brain cells of young women.

Maybe I read that list wrong, but didn't the, er, compiler, say she only "skimmed" Twilight? If so, I could see why Edward might appeal - as a fictional hero, he can be a bit on the boring, too-perfect side, but he only really creeps you out when you stop skimming and stop to see the stuff that he *does*.

Absolutely agree on Harry Potter - say what you want about his flaws, but overall he's pretty ideal as a fictional boyfriend. True, he couldn't be a proper date for Padma to save his life - but the point there was that he wasn't interested in her, wasn't it? I was amazed at the speed with which our awkward Harry found the right things to say to his actual romantic interests. Even with Cho he wasn't too shabby, she was just too hung up on Edward Cedric.
