You guys, I think it has finally sunk in that tonight, at midnight, the faithful are finally going to get hold of actual copies of Breaking Dawn, and judging from the spoiler reactions I've heard, tomorrow, we will hear their lamentations throughout the land. Seriously, it feels like Christmas Eve right now. But then, I'm a terrible person, and I enjoy fandom insanity of any stripe. So here we are, the last linkspam before I get down to work:

Twilight spam:

Not Ready For E-Time: Meyers Ebook Release Delayed ("First off, are ebook sales so significant that military-grade maneuvers are required to manage the ebook release? Is the world really going to come to an end just because a few people in other time zones get a major release first (and maybe, just maybe, this apparent privilege would stimulate some different thinking on ebooks)? Rhetorical, yes. Heaven forbid that people buy and read books before the appointed time "). Meanwhile, half the internet's read bootleg scans of the first two thirds. Good going there, you guys.

You too can own Bella's engagement ring or charm bracelet!

A contribution from [livejournal.com profile] dduane: Forks, Port Angeles eateries set the table with "Twilight"-inspired food. Short version: Bella Italia now does serve mushroom ravioli, and some random place serves a... pineapple Bella Burger? I've read the books and even I don't know what that's supposed to do with anything.

(Have I ever told you the story about why I can't eat mushrooms? I mean, I can, if they're integrated into the food item--say, in small bits on pizza--but generally I try to avoid them. See, when I was about three years old, my mother always put them in her homemade spaghetti sauce. The bland canned kind of mushrooms, you know, kind of a pale beige color, sliced. And I looked down at my spaghetti one day and thought, You know... that kind of looks like someone cut off an ear. Yes, I was three years old. And I have not been able to eat mushrooms since.)

I know, it is like Christmas eve, isn't it? It's going to be the WTF heard round the world. I've already left a glitter trail through my house that's going to be here for weeks, so it's like Christmas in that respect too.

YAY for news about Dorian Gray. I've been dying to know who else got cast. I don't know of Colin matches my mental image of Harry, but he'll obviously do a good job. In all honesty, the rest of the cast could be played by chimpanzees with rifles and I probably wouldn't notice anything other than Ben Barnes. Not that I don't genuinely want to see the movie for the story, but, goddamn.

I think that's why I'm more gleeful. With Harry Potter I had a stake in the outcome. With Twilight it's just pure delicious schadenfreude.

I'm going to the midnight release party just to watch. Then I figure I'll buy a copy at Wal-Mart tomorrow or something.

Rumor: Pixar is Pursuing 'Monsters, Inc.' Sequel?!

Oh, please no. Pixar has been snuggling under the failblanket for a while as it is*, and a case of sequelitis is not going to help. Especially considering the huge amount of time that passes between their movies; a Pixar release is as rare and anticipated as the last few Harry Potter books were, and a sequel is a slot 'wasted' on something that's not even new. Add to this the fact that I can't even watch Monsters, Inc. anymore because the concept bothers me so much, and it becomes a big steaming pile of DO NOT WANT.

*No, I haven't seen WALL-E yet; when I do so my opinion may change, but that doesn't make Ratatouille suck any less and I still refuse to see Cars.

From: [identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com
The one time I was a passenger on a Greyhound bus, we had a racist 'nam vet who had smuggled in a bigassed water bottle full of vodka.

By the time we reached Phoenix from San Jose, he was drunk and ranting (HONEST TO GOD, he used the "I DIDN'T SEE YOU THERE!" line - on another 'nam vet on the bus). The driver said that if we weren't five minutes from the terminal, he'd have pulled over and dumped him on the side of the Arizona highway.

Those five minutes of biting back every snarky, baiting comment that came to mind for fear of getting my ass kicked were the longest and most painful five minutes of my life.

Police don't know what prompted vicious bus attack, in which a guy BEHEADED THE GUY SITTING NEXT TO HIM. JESUS.

That's pretty much what my local newspaper's headline was. '"He was like a robot, stabbing the guy" BUS HORROR' D:

Date: 2008-08-02 04:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rahrahmah.livejournal.com
Mine too. I assume you're from Canada? Do you mind if I ask where? I'm in BC, but I've lived in Edmonton where THAT GUY WAS FROM. Like, I've taken buses from Edmonton out to BC. The guy who was beheaded, according to a heartbreaking interview with some of his friends, wanted to move here to experiance our beautiful wilderness. It's just so very terrifying, as a Canadian, isn't it? I mean, we're such a tiny country population-wise. It's not even six degrees of separation in most cases. I could have walked past the killer. I could have become friends with the victim when he moved here, if this hadn't of happened. He was my age!

Not to offend anyone else reading this, but my first thought when I read the headline was "Here? In Canada? NOT in the States? Was he FROM the States?" I mean, there were only 605 murders in the whole damn country in 2006 (stats from here (http://mysilvercreek.sampasite.com/neighbourhood-watch-program/crime-statistics/CANADA---HOMICIDES-STATISTICS-20.htm)). I mean, out of a population of almost 33.5 million that's pretty good. But this just chilled me to my absolute core. I don't feel safe anymore. My patriotism took a blow. My view of the world around me took a blow. I'm totally shaken.

I love the delicious horribleness of Twilight, and was totally looking forward to grabbing the ebook of Breaking Dawn today. Why? Because the Australian release date is the 4th.

It's particularly ridiculous when the stock has been sitting there for the last two weeks in bookstores. Those stores could have made a killing off Saturday sales and launches. Parties all around! But no - it's a Monday release, when the majority of the target audience is, you know, still in school.

Way to alienate readers from other countries.

When I heard about the bus story yesterday on CNN I was so freaked out. I've encountered many a freaking person on bus rides - this makes me less inclined to ever take one again!

That beheading thing might be the most disturbing thing I've ever read. For no reason he stabbed, beheaded and possibly ATE a person. The HELL?!

I'm still befuddled that the from the time someone noticed the attacker had begun until he removed the head (with a knife, that's gotta take time), the driver was able to stop the bus, the passengers unloaded, and then a rescue team was collected to assist the victim?

I wasn't there, but something about this really strikes me as odd. Just, simply, how could this go on and no one help the victim? Was it a moment of chaos, were they just that fearful? In shock? It's a nightmare.

What's happened to me? It's true--I'm drooling over a fictional engagement ring replica. Even though I know that, in the books, Edward probably got it from his great-great-great grandmother and gave it to Bella in a glass of champagne while Vampire!Ella Fitzgerald ("I knew we'd meet one day, so I turned her just so that I could have the best backing music possible for my ultra-romantic proposal") crooned "Cheek To Cheek" in the background and Alice touched off fireworks in the middle distance.

...All right. I think I've just talked myself out of doing something very, very silly. Like getting one.

I heard about the beheading thing this morning when one of my co-workers was insisting that "decapitate" and "behead" don't mean the same thing.

I'm really looking forward to the Breaking Dawn explosion tomorrow.
