I don't know, although I'm inclined to agree generally that books that are about people doing tangible things speak more to our condition than vague existential meebling about how hollow life in this modern, over-commercialized world is. I mean, ideally you have the tangible storylines, which may or may not include people having awesome adventures, and the existential depth.

Wow, watching the record labels FINALLY collapse is completely fascinating. Even though she wasn't on EMI, I never would have thought in a million years that Tori Amos, of all people, would turn out to be the proverbial canary in the coal mine. I hope Paul and Yoko have the sense to buy the rights to The Beatles catalog because I have a distinct feeling that they're going to be boned if they don't.

Oh shit, I completely forgot about that! In that case, their music is slightly more safe. I mean, Crazy Michael Jackson still owning it sucks, but it's a little bit better than an imploding record company, you know?

I hope Radiohead can buy all their music back, though their back catalog showing up in iTunes may indicate that they did.

It's also kind of funny that this is happening only a couple of years after a bunch of the more successful indie bands signed to major labels - The Decemberists and Interpol in particular are signed to Capitol.
