What

Okay, I'm going to break out a mini-spam here--I might do another linkspam later, but I'm trying to really get some work done today, and--this stuff can't wait.

JK Rowling talks in-depth about the Veil.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart on THE BEST MAGAZINE COVER EVER. I try to stay apolitical on this journal, so... just take it as a link about mockery of the media.

Rachel McAdams Discovered by Sherlock Holmes. LEAVE IRENE ADLER OUT OF THIS. I DON'T TRUST Y'ALL NOT TO SCREW THIS UP.

Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger what?
“During Disney’s preview today in Hollywood, the studio questioned who could possibly play the titular character in its upcoming feature The Lone Ranger.”

“At that, Disney rolled out the USC marching band to come down and play the Ranger’s theme song. This was followed by an appearance by Depp himself who took to the stage in full Captain Jack Sparrow attire…wearing The Lone Ranger’s mask.”

1. Wait, this actually happened?

2. Well, they were also announcing ideas for POTC4. Hell, he probably puts that costume on to go to the corner store sometimes.

2. I just went back to the link to write this up, and MTV is saying now that he's going to play Tonto. What the actual fuck, y'all.

ETA: Can someone go look into this for me? And possibly file a complaint if it's warranted? I'm trying to finish this project by next week and it's crunch time and this bizarro plagiarism shit makes my head hurt.

Aaaaand the ff.net plagiarizer (who was claiming that her cousin * wrote "Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes" and gave her "permission" to cannibalize it) has deleted the post. Or ff.net did. Someone. Normally I just drop people a line once in a blue moon and go, "Hey, could you take this down, it's mine," and they comply--I try to take a "Forget it, Jake, it's the internet" view of it most of the time--but there's so much attitude here that it was actually kind of pissing me off: the cousins and the friends who leant me the script from THEIR parody )

So I asked people to look into it (see previous entry). There was... kind of a small dogpile in the reviews. I mean, all the "reviews" I saw were civil, to the effect of "This isn't yours, you should take it down." No name-calling that I saw. And then it took a turn for the (extra) wanky after she took it down, but not before posting a crazy screed of some kind (now deleted?). Apparently it reads in part, You accusatory squirrel-like person )

So... that was weird. I actually suspect that her cousin may have lied to her, and that she was telling the truth as she knew it. The problem is, I wrote "Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes" in 2005, and I have hundreds of unalterable, date-stamped comments to prove it. So no matter how upset she gets or how hurt she feels, that fact isn't going to change, unfortunately.

Ironically, the whole thing is moot, because ff.net doesn't allow script format anyway.

* There is a tired "Cousins. Totally cousins" joke in here that I am too tired to make at the moment.

ETA: Here's the full rant (well, it did appear in public originally; it was never locked).

So my computer crashed in the middle of me footnoting "The Prestige in Fifteen Minutes" (and I had just spent like an hour discussing, uh, who I thought was in each scene--if you've seen the movie, you know what I mean) for the e-book project, which was a buzzkill. Meanwhile, my grandmother's sick (a sinus infection similar to mine, I think, only worse, since she's so frail), she's also worried about her money being with Merrill Lynch (yeah... I would too, right now), Shelby's having stomach problems, my stepfather is having a really, really hard time at work right now, my sister's having to do catering deliveries again and she inevitably ends up getting her car totaled by some nut loose on the street, we're going to have to have a plumber come out and look at the downstairs toilets, Tiny Tim needs a new crutch, and I'm just tired of it all, really. And feeling bad for everyone.

That said, I've already posted twice today and I was very productive (the computer crash aside), so I've got that going for me. Actually, I think I'm cycling back through a manic or hypomanic phase again. Who wants to make bets on what I'll be doing at the end of October? )

Oh, and apparently Let the Right One In is going to be playing at the Sidewalk Film Festival here in town on Saturday night (!!), although I don't know if I'll be able to go.

Speaking of which: Cloverfield's Matt Reeves Remaking 'Let the Right One In'; Countdown under way for 10th Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in downtown Birmingham.

More linkspam! Hey, it's Alice! In Wonderland! Why is she on a ship? )
