So today is my journal birthday (six years old!). Also: HALLOWEEN. Wish I felt more celebratory. I felt pretty horrible all week, but then I cheered myself up with a Twitter-spamming errand-shenanigans photo safari this morning (uh... sorry about that, Twitfolk). It went like so:

@cleolinda Going to sto'. Another suburban photo safari, y/n?

Your Publix looks way better than mine. And I have like 150 of them in a 10 mile radius.

Fun times :) This was slightly hard to follow on Twitter as THEY JUST KEPT COMING, so I'm glad you reposted it here. In particular I'd missed Edward stalking you at Walmart, and that would have been tragic.

Yeah. My mother was amazed to realize that I wasn't taking pictures for later--I was posting them to Twitter as we went, because you can email them to Twitpic from your phone.

And getting stalked by Edward Cullen in various retail establishments is always entertaining.

I'm glad no one bothered you (well, other than Edward). A lot of store managers get really uptight about people taking photos in their stores.

Did you actually open that birthday card? You know which one. *shudder*

*shudder* Re. being stalked by Edward Cullen in retail establishments, I spent the entire holiday season last year working at a calendar kiosk in the mall, which happened to be located directly across from FYE. Of course they have giant boxes of posters ushering you into the store, and while most of them were Jonas Brothers and High School Musical, they OF COURSE had a massive box of Edward posters, that poster, the one where he looks like he has The Worst Sinus Infection Ever Beheld and he wants to KILL YOU because you probably GAVE IT TO HIM (seriously, whose idea was it to give the vampires red-rimmed eyes in addition to faintly damp pallor and a look of severe displeasure?). So I'm trapped in this little kiosk while Pallid Sick Edward glowers at me ALL DAY LONG, and I swear the FYE people kept moving him closer.

And then a month or so later they got the FREAKING LIFE-SIZED CARDBOARD CUT-OUT which they OF COURSE placed DIRECTLY IN MY LINE OF SIGHT FROM THE REGISTER. FOR WEEKS. (A friend joked about buying one and sneaking it into my bedroom while I was sleeping. "THAT IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL," I told him, and anyway he desisted the moment he found out that FYE charged thirty bucks for those things.)

:O   BAD SUBURBANITES, NO BISCUIT. Thank god they didn't actually go through with it.

Oh, hey, on another topic entirely, would you have any use for a doll wedding cake? Or maybe an hors d'oeuvres plate consisting entirely of cold cuts? No? How about a little wee saucepan? Or--oh, all right, I'm sorry. TINY THINGS ARE CUTE, OKAY?

ETA: Duh, happy blog birthday! (Blobirthday? Blogthday? Something.) Thank you for six years of laughs. And I'm sorry for spamming your notifications as I keep thinking of more things I have to say.

"The entire store thinks I'm crazy, or perhaps from a country where they do not have groceries"

I know how you feel there. Earlier this month I was in the Czech Republic and ever so excited to discover they have Tesco (British supermarket) there so I insisted on going round one. It took a lot of self restraint not to go round photographing the hell out of everything. Restraint, and the sign at the entrance telling you not to take photos.

Seriously, why do stores do that? Do they think someone's going to use the photos to stage a daring midnight raid on the cereal aisle by rappelling down from the ceiling?

They think that competing retailers are going to photograph their products, layouts, and marketing materials for analysis.

Of course, if I were a rival supermarket wanting to do that I would just do secret filming so they didn't know I was doing it.

I just wanted to take pictures so I could go "look, those are the same tinned tomatoes I buy in England, isn't it WACKY".
