A bit of linkspam

Been having a really hard time the last few days. Don't even really want to talk about it, although suffice it to say that it's not just me feeling pitiful, it's me actually trying not to get sucked into a number of different people's dramaz and not entirely succeeding. I'm trying to space the entries several days apart, but if The Secret Life of Dolls seems to move at a brisk pace over the next week or so, it's because I find working on that to be both comforting and distracting.

Linkspam--before we get into the grim stuff: ICE CREAM DEATHMATCH! If you'll excuse me, I have a container of Heavenly Hash I want to crawl into now.

Why have I not heard about the Let the Right One In remake? And, more importantly, why is it even being made? I hate that all these creatively challenged directors are like "I respect the movie so much, which is why I think I can do a better job with the material! Except, that's not really what I meant... oh wait, it totally was!" And again, the "American audiences can't appreciate it unless it's Americanized LOL!"

RAAAAGE.

ITA. The whole thing is so stupid....

Though in some ways I do agree with the title change, though maybe because that's how I first heard the title when it came out in Spain--"Dejame entrar" or "Let Me In". It really has a whole different set of connotations and meaning than "Let the Right One In"....

remakes noooooo

[identity profile] jubilantia.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
NO WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE TITLE because we're not going to see it, right? Right? I just can't stand these stupid, stupid people. Like that guy trying to remake The Birds: "Durr, guys, it's not really working, and I can't figure out why! All birds do is fly and caw and shit- it's boring!" Well, my friend, I haven't been to any kind of film school, and I'll tell you why: because a)you're not Alfred Hitchcock and b)you don't get the damn movie. I mean, it's not about the action. It's the suspense, and the mystery, and the art of the shots etc.

Argh. Sorry. I'm on a short fuse with this whole Avatar thing, and every time I've calmed down about one stupid new remake idea, they come up with one that's somehow so much worse than the last. And it's not stopping. Some movies probably could benefit from remakes, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's not really about creating a new vision of an old movie. It's about making money. Vampires are big money right now, and with Let The Right One In having a fanbase (of what size I am not sure), there's some guarantee that between the vampires and the existing fans of the old one, there'll be a semi-decent turn out.

Now, whether or not the movie is any good is a different matter. The reason they're making it is the money.

[identity profile] jubilantia.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I know it's for the money, but that doesn't mean it's right. Plus, remaking a movie as soon as it comes out is a pretty transparent ploy to piggyback off of someone else's success.

I know I'm not going anywhere near the remake; I refuse to finance the creative deterioration of Hollywood.
