Man--for some reason I really crash in the evenings. I mean, not unreasonably, but since I try to put off the linkspam as long as I can to get the last news of the day in--*flop.*

(And I really need to go take some pictures, too, because I need to have night in the background, if that makes any sense. Nrrrgh, second wind!)

Re: the book: A number of people commented yesterday that they've seen the Movies in Fifteen Minutes book in different Half Price Books stores around the country, so it may be a chain-wide import thing, not just that one store in Austin. And if you were concerned as to whether I get royalties if the book is half-price, secondhand, whatever--I honestly don't care. My personal feeling at this point is that it's more important for people to read the book (and come back here and start reading my journal, even) than to get whatever few cents on the dollar might come in. And I'm even saying that from a financial perspective--it seems like an investment in the future to try to get more people to see the book, so if you buy it used or borrow it from a library or lend it to a friend, I am perfectly okay with that.

From [livejournal.com profile] ook: Lein Wein, creator of Wolverine, lost his home, dog, and original art in a fire. I'm not sure if he lost the entire house? It's deeply unfortunate either way.

Re: Project Download and Erin's passing: I've been holding on to this perhaps longer than I should have, but I wanted to get an answer from Erin's mother first--[livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh did attend Erin's memorial last week, and says, "Jo [Erin's mother] wanted to hear from more people who knew Erin online. If you want to reach Jo, her e-mail is jorn43 [at] yahoo[dot]com." You'll need to put Erin's name in the subject line ("About Erin," for example) to make sure Jo knows to open it.

I have been in deep denial about the 10 Things... TV show since I heard about it last summer. Part of it is because, well, Patrick Verona is to me what Jake Ryan was to a thirteen year old girl in 1984. And the movie kind of introduced me to the concept of snark, even though I had no idea what it was at the time. (And yet, I will watch it, because I am a bit of a masochist.)

hey -- ummm, this is going to be completely random, but i actually have a question about your black ribbon series and the only way i could think of to ask you about it was to get a live journal account and leave a comment...i hope that isn't creepy. it seems like right now you're working on another project as well as m15m and regular writing and life and possibly school and work and what not, so i don't mean to add stress, but i loved what you put online and was just wondering if you've put that project to rest for now, or if more will be forthcoming...either online or in printed format...any hope that more will one day come would be appreciated. thanks!

But yeah, I'm still working on it as we speak, and as soon as I have anything readable, I'll have my agent on it.

...Actually, upon reflection, I'm a little worried about it. So much of that game's awesomeness was in the playing of it. Seeing it get the ol' New Zealand Treatment would be amazing, if that should happen, but beyond that... what's it going to be, an action movie? Enh. I just don't know.

It's hard to take too much stock in the early reviews of Star Trek because nearly all of them are trying to say that it's the best Trek film since Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Trouble is, I said the same thing when I first saw Star Trek: Nemesis, which is now widely reviled by Trekkers and I admit my own feelings towards it have cooled considerably. The reviews did raise my optimism back up a teeny bit, but I'm choosing to take them with a bucket of salt.

[As an aside, just once I'd love to hear someone try to convince someone of a Trek movie's quality by saying, "ZOMG, it's totally the best since Star Trek V: The Final Frontier!" I mean, that person would get some strange looks and immediately be disregarded for having terrible taste, but damn it'd be funny.]

As for Terminator: Salvation being PG-13, I'm in total agreement with the commenter who bemoans the fact that it used to be no big deal to see a pair of tits in a PG-13 movie--or Hell, even a PG one!

I mean, just off the top of my head you have Critters 2: The Main Course, a PG-13 film where a shapeshifting alien bounty hunter decides to assume the shape of a Playboy centerfold and her breasts explode out of the alien's space suit, in close-up!

And who can forget Airplane!--a PG film where we get a pair of bouncing bare breasts thrust into the camera!

From the sound of that nude scene, it sounds no worse than either of those examples. And if it's "artistically" done, I see absolutely no reason that it shouldn't be allowed to appear in the finished film, whether R or PG-13.

I hate to beat a decaying equine carcass, but are we really more concerned about our kids and teenagers seeing a woman naked than a bunch of robots slaughtering hundreds and thousands of humans?

I myself am not so big on the original series (*hides from all the hard core fans*), but I will always have a special place in my heart for Jean-Luc Picard. One of the sexiest men ever, excluding his terrifying if funny appearance on Extras. If this movie is as awesome as First Contact, I'll be happy.
