Re: Tonner Twilight dolls: They changed the pictures! They changed the pictures! (This is why I document these things!)

Holy shit, I think Bella's gotten worse, unless it's just the angle. Edward hasn't improved much, although he does look a bit less like David Boreanaz now.

Anyway. Since people wanted to see how Lyra and Elizabeth compared to the pictures on the Tonner site, well--here we are.

Lyra and Pan. The coat and cap colors are a bit different from the website pic, but I actually like them better. Note: the bag in the second picture did not come with the doll; it's a jewelry pouch I found that seems to make a convenient knapsack.

And here's Lyra with... Iorek.

Some clothing details for the costumishly-minded among you. Includes the mittens that I absolutely cannot cram onto her hands, so I just put them in her bag.

And here's Elizabeth, with Obligatory Sword-Brandishing Shot:

The pictures without flash were much less flattering.

More costume details: hat, coat, swash; the back of her waistcoat. Again, the colors were different, but I like them much better--more uniformly (and accurately) brown.

Show 'em your lace-up cuffs, Lizzie. (The other strings are for her collar. Pirates do not keep their collars laced up. Duh.)

She has an oddly low hairline, which is why she prefers to keep her hat on.

Lyra and Elizabeth together, for size reference:

I'll probably take pictures of the others next, but not quite so exhaustively. I don't think the boys would stand for an extended fashion shoot anyway.

Fun seeing your pics of your dolls too! :-)

Hee, thanks. I just really can't decide--they terrify me either way, and I just really feel like Bella doesn't have a good enough likeness to Kristen Stewart. She kind of looks... weak? Like book!Bella would look. I want some Kristen Stewart bitchface up in here.

Let us not even speak of Edward Dollen. This is the problem with dolls based on people--do you want a doll that doesn't look enough like the person, or is it too weird to have one that does?

But like I was saying to someone else--I am so incredibly high-strung about getting these dolls. I guess because I feel sentimental over having spent so much time on these books/movies. I don't like the faces, but I'd cut a TwiMom for them.

For some reason I've never been a doll person, but I get more and more into it with every Doll-esque post you make. I think I may have to internationally purchase an Alice Dollen at some point (ALICE DOLLEN!!).

Also: Britney Spears? Really?

I cannot fathom spending $300 on those creatures. I'm guessing they're so pricey because they're hand painted? Since they're only made of plastic?

My grandmother used to buy me fancy expensive porcelain dolls. I bet she would have loved her some Edward, though. (I base this on her love for creepy men; I remember in my childhood her declaring Billy Ray Cyrus "sexy".)

"Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are represented in fine quality vinyl/hard plastic with rooted saran hair and hand-painted facial features. Each collector figure posseses multiple points of articulated joints for maximum posing ability."

Look, I don't know. I guess? Compared to other dolls I've bought in the past--Tonner's decently priced considering the high quality of the clothing, if nothing else. I mean, Lyra was worth every penny (well, she was a gift, but you see what I'm saying).

I KNOW!! Her hair even kinda has sunstreaks in it! I mean, it's subtle, but it's there. And the outfit's just amazing, particularly compared to the two Elizabeths in dresses (the yellow dress is just ridiculous in terms of likeness, considering that in the movie it was a subdued gold).

And yeah, Lyra's so great. I would die, die, if they put out a Serafina Pekkala. Or at least my wallet would.

The new pics of the Tonner dolls are MUCH better IMO, though I still don't think I'd buy them. (not a doll collector, though I am starting to become fascinated by it)

I'm curious to find out how Edward would blend with the rest of the Shelf's occupants. Bella would probably ignore everyone, because she probably wouldn't know how to relate to the other dolls, just like her human counterpart with other humans.

You get this all the time and now I understand why: I'm largely indifferent to dolls, but I was looking through the website and... wow, I would really like a Luna Lovegood (http://tonnerdoll.com/2008TonnerSite/2008Images/2008%20Fall-Holiday/HPotter/lunalovegood.jpg). Luna's one of my favourite characters, and her doll is really amazing.

Damn it, what have you done? :P

Date: 2009-01-18 12:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
You know, I have to say, their Luna probably has the best likeness out of all the Harry Potter dolls. It's kind of incredible.

I'm really curious to see what they would do with a Ginny doll, myself. I was so disappointed when I read the second book and it was like, "Oh, great, lame-ass kid sister with a crush on Harry to tag along," and then she came back later all like "YOU DON'T KNOW ME! I DO WHAT I WANT!" and dated people other than Harry and was smart and athletic (okay, and kind of bratty, I concede this). I know a lot of people don't like her, but I just liked that she went off and had her own life away from Harry and the others. So she's, uh, kind of one of my favorite characters. If the doll's face was the least bit decent, I would totally save up for one.

I think Bella is beyond all hope, but Edward's likeness to David Boreanaz is definitely diminished in that picture. Whether or not he looks more like RPattz is up for debate (and would looking more like him be good or bad?), but he couldn't act as an Angel stand-in anymore. (Which pleases my sideshow Angel, because the comparison unsettled him. Hee.) Also, the Fangirl Alert System in the RED. That hair! What is that? It's like...standing straight up Frankenstein hair. I don't know. The coat will never stop being cool.

Lyra is darling. I love her outfit. But OMG, Elizabeth. She's very nearly perfect. That costume is amazing . Look at the detail they put into everything! *flails* Even her skintone and her hair color looks right. The rows of buttons on her coat are epic!win. Everything about her is better on the real doll than it is in the stock photos, which is rare.

It's so much fun to see real pictures! :)

(LOL - my iTunes played "Crazy" on shuffle earlier to day. Yes, I am lame enough to still have Britney on my hard drive. Sometimes, you just need bubblegum!)

and would looking more like him be good or bad?

See... yeah. It drives me crazy when movie dolls' faces are just totally off, but at the same time... I would feel so guilty if I had a doll that looked exactly like Robert Pattinson in my room. I would be apologizing to it every time I passed by. "I'm not trying to encourage these people, you know, man... I... I just wanted a doll."

The NECA figure looks more like him, but is too zombie-looking for me to feel bad.

Look at the detail they put into everything! *flails* Even her skintone and her hair color looks right. The rows of buttons on her coat are epic!win.

I KNOW! I didn't take a picture of this, but each button has a little Medusa-head kind of design on it. You can kind of see it in the sword-brandishing picture but not really. The vest lacing up in the back was what really blew me away. But yeah, I think the tan and the highlights in her hair were what sold me on the doll--it's what really sells the resemblance. I have yet to buy a doll from Tonner (I think Ellowyne Wilde is a Tonner spinoff?) that did not look better than the prototypes/pictures. So... here's hoping for Bella and Edward.

I LOVE Edward's pose in the new pic. Hip thurst to the side, hand flung out behind him, Benefit lipstick perfectly applied. It's very Zoolander.
