Date: 2009-01-08 01:33 am (UTC)Why not an actual native american woman? Or at least a female who's at least 5'8 and not teeny-tiny like the rest of the girls in that movie...

Date: 2009-01-08 02:24 am (UTC)I will say, though, I am still not sure where the whole undead cannot be seen in the light of day thing really started in pop culture. Dracula could be seen in the light of day. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's 1922 Nosferatu had the Vampire dying in the sun as a twist, and to keep Bram's Stoker's widow from suing. (which she did anyway) The Vampyre; by Polidori, which predates Stoker by many decades, has a daylight walking vamp, too... if memory serves me correctly.
Not a sparkle amongst them, though.

Date: 2009-01-08 02:54 am (UTC)The thing is, I don't really feel like you can complain about someone's vampire mythology being "different," because--different from what? There are dozens of different vampire mythologies around the world, many of which directly contradict each other. So you can't really say that someone's got it "wrong." To me, the problem isn't that the Meyer vampires can go out in daylight and not die; it's that THEY SPARKLE.
