Vanessa Hudgens?PLZ

Ha. There is no way she should play her, especially since she's on the tiny side.

Why not an actual native american woman? Or at least a female who's at least 5'8 and not teeny-tiny like the rest of the girls in that movie...

I love how the only positive thing they could find to put on the DVD box was "a full-blown pop culture phenomenon."

I work in publishing. I pull review quotes for book jackets all the time. When you use a quote that doesn't actually say anything nice about the book, it's because THERE'S NOTHING NICE TO QUOTE.

Date: 2009-01-08 01:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Heeeeeeeee. That, and how far down the food chain (particularly with movie reviews) they have to go to get something positive. So... I suppose they wouldn't really have wanted to quote me, for example, saying, "It was SO MUCH BETTER than the book that I am unable to say that it was bad."

David Hayman already confirmed to Potter fansite SnitchSeeker that the Battle of Hogwarts had been cut in order to “avoid repetition.” (From the HP -- PG rating link.)

Say what? Say what?!? They had damn well better be talking about the sixth book and not THE Battle of Hogwarts, or heads will roll. ...in a more metaphorical sense.

I've stayed fairly stalkery of the HBP news on Leaky Cauldron, and I don't think there's any fear of the Battle of Hogwarts being cut from DH: Part II. I HATE that they're cutting it from HBP, but I'm so annoyed at the rigmarole surrounding this movie that it's hardly shocking. As long as they get the Ron/Hermione/LavLav drama right, and I see some Harry/Ginny action, and Dumbledore is adequately dramatic, I will forgive. But if they cut the FREAKING CLIMAX of the entire series from the last movie, I'd be right there with you, rolling people's heads. I want to see all that stone getting smashed and desks marching at Prof. McG's orders, dammit!

Yeah, ABC has been on notice with me for a while, since the double-whammy of making Life on Mars mediocre and then cancelling Pushing Daisies. I still want to watch Cupid when it comes, but if they screw around with airing the PD episodes, I won't watch it live and with ads like a good consumerist girl. SO THERE.

Also, on the one hand, I get why WB wants to make HBP a PG movie, but one the other hand...um, guys? How much longer do you think you can maintain that rating? You do realize the last book is even darker, right?

Uh. Honestly, I thougnt the letter to Meyers was cheap. And I know people are analysing her through the books since forever, but this is starting to get really old... I don´t know. Maybe is because I worked with this type of thing before and I know it doesn´t work like that (actually, anyone who reads fanfiction knows that. Just because you write about rape it doesn´t mean you want to be raped. Or eaten by a sexy vampire. Or not eaten.) Plus, the idea of a husband getting defensive over a character makes me lol at him in my head. I know it wasn´t her husband, of course, but still makes me think the stupid one here is him.

ANYWAY, have you realize that everytime someone actually makes a good point about Twilight they always end up reccing you? Last one I saw was this (http://ferretbrain.com/articles/article-366).

Something Awful= hilarity

I will say, though, I am still not sure where the whole undead cannot be seen in the light of day thing really started in pop culture. Dracula could be seen in the light of day. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's 1922 Nosferatu had the Vampire dying in the sun as a twist, and to keep Bram's Stoker's widow from suing. (which she did anyway) The Vampyre; by Polidori, which predates Stoker by many decades, has a daylight walking vamp, too... if memory serves me correctly.
Not a sparkle amongst them, though.

Date: 2009-01-08 02:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
From my research--full disclosure: I've been working on a Victorian steampunk vampire thing for about five years now--Nosferatu really was the first appearance of the sun-kills-vampires trope. You'd think it would show up earlier than that, but it really, really doesn't. (Dracula's seen in Piccadilly during the day; either "Christabel" and/or "Carmilla" also feature vampires in daylight, I can't remember which, and it was possibly both).

The thing is, I don't really feel like you can complain about someone's vampire mythology being "different," because--different from what? There are dozens of different vampire mythologies around the world, many of which directly contradict each other. So you can't really say that someone's got it "wrong." To me, the problem isn't that the Meyer vampires can go out in daylight and not die; it's that THEY SPARKLE.
