I was the one who had to wait for the pizza to be delivered because my mother was otherwise occupied: "I AM GOING TO BE WATCHING THE SUGAR BOWL!" And I was like, what? Why? What the hell do you expect it to do?
I'm not allowed downstairs for the duration of the game now.
Things I did today that were awesome: Actually got off the computer and read a book. Well, most of one; I'll finish the rest of it tonight. Also, stayed off the Dew. Have a slight headache now, but that may be more from reading. I'm also mulling over writing that tarot-based short story collection I've had in mind--that's what the "Strength" in the title here refers to--but that'll probably take years to come to fruition. But it's fun thinking about it.
(Wow. The headache is more than "slight" now.)
gfrancie mentioned an
unclutter_2009 comm that I liked the idea of, so today's decluttering effort: Threw away a beauty product given to me by someone who turned out to be crazy. I can't really elaborate on the situation beyond that, except that said item has been on a back shelf for about two years drying out anyway, and now that bad juju's out my house.

Date: 2009-01-03 01:09 am (UTC)I was in a press conference with Zack a couple months ago and he basically said that they're not stopping us from making the movie. In fact it sounded awfully like Fox was contributing to the press and marketing campaign. So it looks to me like a big spoof that just engages. It looks like a big spoof that ends up with a lot of money changing hands down the line and the audience won't notice the difference. But I think Warner Brothers' coffers will be lighter. I think somebody made a mistake along the way, and they're going to pay for it. But I don't think anyone is going to stop the release of the film, that seems foolish for all.
I sure hope to God this is the case. And wow, finally the picture of Twilight Lady!

Date: 2009-01-03 03:55 pm (UTC)If a person is experiencing a manic episode, is it normal to forget the details of what happened?
Here's the background for the question. My little brother was diagnosed with probably bipolar recently ("probably" in the sense that I think the doctors agree with him that something's up, but I don't think they've conclusively settled on bipolar disorder yet). I live several hours away, so I haven't seen him in the last few months, and seeing him over Christmas was somewhat disorienting. Specifically, one time we went out very dinner and he was...only vaguely my brother. It was kinda upsetting, because growing up I always knew my brother better than anybody, and now I could barely read him at all, you know? Anyway, over the next couple days, he would talk about things he talked about at dinner, and it was clear he had no memory at all about talking about them the first time. So now I'm wondering if this is just a normal symptom or some completely different thing to be worried about.
And, obviously, you are not a doctor; you are someone who writes entertaining things on the internet, but you know more about this than anyone else I know of, so I thought I'd ask.

Date: 2009-01-03 05:12 pm (UTC)But memory loss doesn't sound incompatible with mania, so I went and looked it (mania) up at WebMD (http://www.webmd.com/bipolar-disorder/guide/hypomania-mania-symptoms)--which, much the way I'm not a doctor, isn't a substitute for one either--and it vaguely, briefly mentions "memory go[ing]." I'd say read over that, maybe a few other things in the bipolar subsection, and see if it rings any bells. If nothing else, it's something to tell his doctor about. Seriously, if he is seeing a doctor, I think s/he needs to be informed of anything unusual or out of the ordinary, because it could affect the diagnosis--it could change the diagnosis, and a period of time he can't remember for no good reason (like, not an alcohol blackout) seems pretty significant no matter what it is. My doctor thought I was just depressive until--ten years into our relationship--I mentioned that I'd had what turned out to be a sustained, week-long hypomanic episode. They can't diagnose it if they don't know about it, in other words.
Seriously, though, best of luck trying to sort this out. It can be really frustrating because it's not an exact science--they can't just do blood tests for it, you know? It depends a lot on the patient self-reporting and the doctor being able to interpret the symptoms they're given, and even when a name is put to it, you then have to start working on the right balance of medications and/or therapy. It can be really frustrating--even more so when it's happening to someone else (I've had to watch my sister go through this as well), because you can't just jump into their head and come back and say, "Look, this is what's wrong." I'll be thinking good thoughts for y'all.
