I'm really pissed about the Iron Man/Narnia face-off. Of course Iron Man will win, but when Narnia doesn't go #1, how is Disney going to agree to the next four films? I'm very, very afraid.

Man. Why do people insist on 'Silence of the Lambs' being a scary movie?

It's too awesome to be scary!

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. It's one of my most favoritest movies. I do wonder how much scarier it would have been in a theater. On a big screen. In the dark. (I was like 12 or 13 when it came out.)

Actually, speak of the devil, they talk about it in the Cam Gigandet/Twilight interview:
MTV: There are old stories of Anthony Hopkins sneaking into theaters when "Silence of the Lambs" was playing. He'd wait until a scary Hannibal Lecter moment in the movie, then tap a viewer on the shoulder and say, "Hello," just to freak them out.

I'm pretty sure I would have fallen over and died.

X3 made lots of money, didn't it? That must be why I keep seeing Brett Ratner's name attached to project. I mean, that movie killed a fandom, but it did...make...money. *goes off to cry somewhere*

*attempts to cosmically slap Nobel guy* I have heard lack of translations cited as an issue in American theater, so it might be one in literature, too- but that's about the only point I'm willing to semi-concede to him. Cripes.

To end on a happy note, Peter Sarsgaard is great in The Seagull, and sitting barely 10 feet from him was one of my Top Awesome Moments in theater.

Okay, the Sunday School Musical thing made me lol. I had the tv on Wife Swap today and the mom was talking about how wholesome musicals are... Right. Because Phantom of the Opera and Little Shop of Horrors and 90% of everything on Broadway doesn't have cleverly written sex puns or anything that my high school had to pretend to be ignorant of. Oh no.

...But seriously I'm having a hard time not loling at this kind of thing. X)

[identity profile] sweet-pessimism.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, Avenue Q is totally wholesome.

My sister went to see it this summer, and she said that even though there were giant "R" warnings on all the posters, some people still brought their kids. It's a puppet musical, so of course it must be kid friendly! She said she saw one woman keep her hands over her kid's ears practically the whole time, and at intermission allll the parents and children cleared out.

That Britney interests me because I actually went to Serendipity 3 on Friday night for the first time ever, and I thought it was crap. The lighting was bad, the space was cramped, and the cake I got was terribad. There wasn't a wait, but I spent $16 on two bites of cake. (It was a regular big slice, it was just disgusting.)

You sent me on a wandering trail and I ended up at Nikki Finke's and this completely boggling subhead: Lack of German Accents Still an Issue. (It's about a WWII film, and not speaking English with a German accent). Still, full of WTF?

I am so divided about the NFB protest of Blindness. On the one hand, I'm glad SOMEONE is calling them on out on it. But on the other hand...protests are only going to give the movie more attention...

[identity profile] r-a-black.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
You know what, that outtake from the photoshoot would have done much better as the cover. It's still bad, but not half as bad as the cover image was.

Apparently, "God" just rolled out of bed, hasn't showered, is in need of a shave, and looks more than a little skeezy.

Anyhoo.

I already wanted to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button before I watched the trailer. Now I'm just getting impatient. Tilda Swinton I <3 you.

Hmm... not too impressed with the new Bond theme... I loved the one for Casino Royale and Die Another Day (which *gasp* actually made sense for once).

[identity profile] eruvadhril.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
I am very, very scared about Stephenie Meyer's "adult" book, The Host. From what I can gather, it appears to be about the love story between a feisty girl, and the mind-controlling alien that invades her body and removes almost every vestige of autonomy and independent thought. But still somehow manages to be a complete wuss. I may have hold of completely the wrong end of the stick here, but this is what I've managed to gather from the Amazon reviews.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, the alien in her head is also female ("Wanda")--it's about the alien being in love with one of the other humans, while taking over the body of someone they know, which makes them kind of hate her. Complications! I think there's also someone in love with the actual girl, so of course there are problems as to who's in love with who--someone told me about a scene where the girl's brother kisses her to see if she'll freak out, proving that she's still "in there" (she is; I think punching ensues).

I honestly had NO IDEA there was going to be a Spiderman 4, so I'm definitely gonna have to catch up on my screaming. Let's start now. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! There, that's better. I just hope we won't see the return of Evil Bad Hair Day Man. Emo hair doesn't quite suit him.

[identity profile] venusad.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay....either Stephenie Meyer has lost a good 30 pounds since I saw her on Ellen like two weeks ago, or that image is heavily photoshopped.
Self-esteem can be a tricky thing when viewing your own photos, but lady...you are a writer. No one is buying your books because you're so damn sexy. There is no need for photoshop (particularly when you've appeared on live television and you aren't fooling anyone).

I finally saw Casino Royale and I am DYING to see Quantum of Solace now....even if the title totally sounds like a JRock song.

I forgot to share how much of an insensitive clod I am; as when I read that NFB members had attended the screening of Blindness, my first thought was "But how did they know what was going on if they can't see?".
.....yes, I know the answer, but it's that second of pause that's always very embarrassing.

Still, I don't think it's completely fair to protest the movie. Yes, Blind people are capable and adjusted and generally awesome (I've delt with some particularly amazing people that are blind, and their adeptness always amazes me...because man, I'm not that coordinated and I can see what I'm doing).

But still...If a crapload of people suddenly inexplicably went blind and were soon after quarantined? Of course they'd go nuts. I know I'd go nuts.

I just see this as yet another case of people being too damn sensitive. I do not see this movie as changing people's minds about blindness one way or the other. Can't we ever just call a metaphor a reallyobviousmetaphor and be done with it?

[identity profile] greedyskunk.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I had a similar reaction. "Are they protesting because the filmmakers made a movie they can't see? Oh, wait, the blind can't see *any* movie." Yes, I know I'm a terrible, bad, bad person.

Seriously, though, I agree with what you say. I'd totally flip out if I suddenly couldn't see and I was shipped off to some government run hellhole hospital. Hell, I've dealt with myopia for over 20 years, but I still bump into crap and freak out when my glasses aren't right where I think they should be.

I doubt the filmmakers or the author is trying to say the blind people are helpless and primitive. But if you take away a vital sense that most people take for granted, of course some will cope badly.
