Whee!

I HAVE A GOLDEN BATMAN TICKET, YAY! We're driving out to Trussville for a 9:30 am showing on Saturday, so it will be an adventure. An adventure with a lot of caffeine.

However, I was dying of a horrendous headache most of the afternoon. I stepped up from 150 mg Lamictal to 175 mg on Monday, and immediately got a headache. Like, within half an hour of taking my meds. Today: same thing, only worse. Obviously, I need to step back down for a while. But there's another possibility: when I cut my Zoloft in half at the beginning of this whole process, my mild, daily headaches immediately stopped. Once again, I'm wondering if this is not Zoloft bringing out the worst in potential Lamictal side effects, and that maybe if I dropped the Zoloft down again--from 50 mg to nothing? I'm already cutting pills in half, I'd reduce them to dust if I cut them into quarters--and kept the Lamictal at 175, I'd be fine. I think I'd have to call my doctor before I tried that, though. I've got to do something, though, because I've been wandering around moaning dramatically all afternoon.

Didn't De Vito do the Matilda movie? I adore that movie so much, so I am hopeful he won't pillage and destroy what little is left of my childhood by making a hash of the Charlotte Doyle movie. I loved more or less all of the Avi books.

Anyone else quaking in fear at the thought of Wicked fandom getting larger and stronger by feeding on the inevitable movie wankage? The Wicked people are, to me, as scary as the Twilighters, what with their Idina vs Eden vs Shoshanna wars and assorted other shenanigans.

Didn't De Vito do the Matilda movie? I adore that movie so much (me too!) Yes, yes, he did. Given that it was such a good movie/book adaptation, it seems fair to hope that this will follow suit.

One of the things I liked so much about Matilda was that even though it wasn't 100% faithful to the plot of the book, it had a just about perfect cast, and it translated the feeling and the emotion of the book to the screen in a way that transcended the minor plot changes. It rang true in the same ways the book rang true.

I'm inclined to think De Vito has the right frame of mind and the right touch to do right by Charlotte Doyle.

I am HIDING when the movie comes out, because while I am a fan of the musical EVEN THOUGH THE BOOK'S TOTALLY BETTER the fandom competes with Harry Potter for sheer batshitery. No matter what happens with it, the wank will be EVERYWHERE.

And Eden Espinosa is still the best and way better than Idina. *is hunted down*

SHUN! Shun the unbeliever!

Hah, I don't care, I don't have a dog in the Elphaba fight. I think they're all good.

I made the mistake, once, of telling an online acquaintance that a) I thought the book was very good and that the musical didn't have much of the emotional heft that made the book good, and b) that while the first act of the musical was cute and fresh , the second act was a hot mess. I think I'm still on her shitlist. Those girls carry some serious grudges.

[identity profile] azuresquirrel.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, that's okay. I couldn't care less about the Elphaba dogfight either. Why can't people just accept that some people have different opinions and thus different favorite actresses? I just had to throw that in there after the beatdown I received from people in real life for saying that I really enjoyed Eden's performance because OMG DON'T YOU KNOW THAT NO ONE IS BETTER THAN IDINA EVARRRRR????

[identity profile] mercat.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I must be in the right Wicked comms. (I don't really read Wicked stuff off LJ, though...) I haven't seen any real drama though.

But I am always one of those "protective fandom" people *coughIndianaJonescough* so I know where you're coming from on that front.

[identity profile] azuresquirrel.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that the Wicked fandom has improved after my long absence from it. My experience on LJ, in various musical theatre forums and in real life has mostly been of teenage fangirls who insist that Wicked is TEH BEST MUSICAL EVAR!!! and refuse to expand their horizons outside of it, do not accept any criticism of the musical whatsoever and CANNOT abide the thought of anyone thinking that any actress besides their preferred one is the best Elphaba/Glinda (the Idina fans are the worst, but just about every actress has a legion of batshit behind her).

Unless it's changed over the years, I'd recommend avoiding the "main" Wicked community on LJ, wicked_elite, as it was mostly devoted to flamewars (it even showed up on fandom_wank) and inane postings of "OMG! I HEARD A WICKED REFERENCE TODAY!" because someone said, "Fly off the handle" because Wicked obviously invented EVERYTHING in the script.

Oy. I wanked. Aside from the tl;dr, love the show, don't like the fandom, unless it has changed, then good for them.

[identity profile] mercat.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, haha, I'm not in wicked_elite. Interesting, I must have come in on the late side of things. I remember watching Defying Gravity on the Tony's, and completely forgot about it until a year later, when I read the book. Then I got the CD, and I just saw it in Chicago last year.

Buuuut maybe waiting a year was enough to miss the drama, haha! Or most of it. =) Can't speak for the fan-specific forums, I'm sure those can get crazy.

...It's still not my favorite musical, though, so, I dunno. Generally I just ignore people who are fanloving something because it's what popular. =P

I guess we're both tl;dr today =^n.n^=

Anyway, I'm sure it will be a lovely clusterfuck when the movie comes out if the fandom really is that bad. =P
