Okay, feeling a little better. This may be because I've added another 25 mg of Lamictal to my daily cocktail. Also, I've been getting a lot of work done, which is good--probably because everyone's been off for a super-long weekend (my parents also took yesterday off because my stepfather was playing with Celebration Winds in Huntsville last night) and I haven't been required for dogwatching.

And then, when my eyelid starts twitching or my jaw starts aching again, I go and do some heavy wish-fulfillment internet window-shopping. I am determined to find myself the perfect moonstone cluster ring (like the ones I linked to that time). That, and I am ridiculously attracted to Alchemy Gothic jewelry. I mean, number one, my soul craves an astrolabe pendant like whoa. And there are all kinds of items that have personal Black Ribbon significance to me (It looks kind of steampunk! It looks like a test tube! It's the title of one of the books!). Also, this may be one of the best goth jewelry concepts I have ever seen--it kind of makes me laugh, it's so fantastic.

And then I go, "You know what I'd really like? A pair of Chuck Taylors." Clearly I am not very good at this whole goth-girl thing.

I would like to state for the record here that I fully believe that Jacob will show up at the wedding (unable to stay away as his true love marries a "bloodsucker" omg. Bonus points if he tries to talk her out of it first), meet Angela, and imprint on her. Why? Well, because 1) Angela's already dating someone (Ben?), which means we get bonus angst; 2) now that he's over Bella, Jacob can be friends with her again (although Bella will obviously mope for a while that he was able to get over her); and 3) Angela will thereby find out about the werewolves and vampires, which means that she can stay friends with Bella even after Bella becomes a vampire and has to walk away from the rest of her normal life. Voilà, problem(s) solved.

Most Obnoxious Tourists? The French

OMG YES! There is nothing more obnoxious than a large group of French school children on a group trip. They appear to have missed the memos about NOT taking up the entire street and/or sidewalk when touring around a smallish city and I have come very close to taking out quite a few with my bike.

The "Are Mercury's Days as a Planet Numbered?" article seems to be pretty much only the speculation of the author. Pluto lost its planet status because it happened to be one of the new class of Kuiper belt objects, which isn't going to happen to Mercury just because it is changing its size.

As much as I'm trying not to be a Negative Nellie, so much of this linkspam deserves my disapproval/nitpickery (but I love you Cleo for giving it to us!)

I've never read Jezebel, but even I'm pretty sore about that. "That" meaning spreading ignorance about sexual responsibility. As if young women weren't getting enough contradictory messages nowadays - "Don't be a HOOR, or you'll go to Hell!" -"But you're worthless without a man, and the only thing you have to offer is sex, so put out!" It's not enough the religious fundies don't promote safe sex, now the so-called "feminists" don't either! *HEADDESK*

Christ, I like EW's fluffy pop-culture lists, but this is ridiculous.

I might be in a minority in this, but wouldn't it make more sense to end Part I of Dealthy Hallows after Ron leaves, or something else resembling a cliffhanger or tension? I know that 98% of the audience already knows the plot, but that doesn't mean they can't bother to create a reasonable film narrative with some actual suspense.

I like your idea of how the "Twilight" ship war should play out, but given everything I've read about the books (haven't actually read them), I don't think Meyer has the capability to write such a thing. Because that makes sense and creates a logical and interesting narrative, whereas Meyer prefers to ignore the actual plot for, you know, angst. (at least in Harry Potter the angst forwards the plot!)

I fear the probable accuracy of your Twilight premonition(s).

And I still say that Deathly Hallows would fit quite nicely as a single movie if they cut out all of the interminable camping while people who aren't Harry Potter do much more interesting stuff off-screen.

As long as people keep SEEING the superhero movies, they're going to keep dredging up every hero they can find to make a movie about. I've got nothing against it, but to me it's sort of a genre now, like there's science fiction, historical and superhero movies. People have always been fascinated with mythology and I think superheroes fall in to that category right now.

I don't think Meyer has the capability to write such a thing.

I don't know what would be more satisfying--being able to predict exactly how the story (or that part of it) is going to play out, or having people come back here a month from now and go, "You know, I really wish it had happened your way." Because I am a terrible, terrible person.

See, I don't have any problem with superheroes as a genre. Often, they're basically just action movies with a slightly better developed hero. There's a lot of material out there to work with, although you're just as likely to get something like Hancock that falls apart in the second half. And yeah, I don't give a shit about Green Hornet or Green Lantern or whoever, but I wouldn't have thought I would care about an Iron Man movie, either.

Technically I could wear nothing but Chucks to work and no one could stop me (LOL government-mandated non-dress code), but I feel like I'm supposed to, I don't know, set an example to the youths on my campus about dressing professionally or some crap. Still, we have employees that walk around in Juicy sweatsuits or shorts and tops with their boobs hanging out, and high-ranking administrators who dress like lumberjacks every day, so stylish sneakers are a very minor offense.

I'm so very into gray right now, though, and I'm starting to get really tempted. On the other hand, I haven't gotten more than 5 hours of use from the $65 pair I bought to wear at my wedding reception, so... I guess right now I should exercise restraint. Seriously, though, since I started wearing Converse again a few years back I have not been interested in any other brand of sneaker. SO COMFY.

There's two ways to do it really and I guess that's the case for all genres 1.) expect people to show up just because it's a genre movie and disreguard giving them anything with substance, just pander to what they expect 2.) the director can use it to make some creative directoring fanfiction and make something out of it worth watching (i.e. Batman Begins)

Graphic novels fall into another category entirely for me as they're more like books than long running series most of the time (and I don't care what anyone says, they only work when the spirit of their art is invoked in the movie).

That's exactly the thing-- I didn't know who the hell Iron Man was until I made friends with some comic nerds, and the movie was still great. I wouldn't mind more comic book movies-- hell, ANY KIND OF MOVIE-- as long as they were churning out more quality productions. My concern is really that the studios have seen, like crumpeteer said, that people will go in droves because there's apparently more comic book nerds than we all thought out there, so they're just churning out more and more superhero crap and telling us it's what the people are demanding. Hellooooo, Hulk remake!

I'm trying to decide - in a sort of vague horrified way - whether SMeyer has the guts to kill off Jacob. He could sacrifice himself and die happy because he's doing it for the lulz Bella! Bella could angst and angst and run to Edward's cold marble arms and then she would angst no more, for there would be nothing she could do...

Then I remember that Jacob's named after SMeyer's brother, and there is simply no way. ><;; Imprinting for eternal <3, here we come.
