Murphy "Storms Out" After Oscar Loss. "Dreamgirls star Eddie Murphy was so devastated after losing the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award to Alan Arkin he stormed out of the ceremony, according to press reports in the US, including Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com. Murphy was the favorite to win the Oscar, which instead was awarded to Little Miss Sunshine star Arkin. The 45-year-old tried to downplay his disappointment telling American publication Us Weekly, 'It's fine. It happens. It's OK.' But shortly thereafter, Murphy and girlfriend Tracey Edmonds left the show and didn't return." Aww, even the little picture beside the blurb looks sad.

Scorsese glad Oscar recognition came late, because earlier, it might have "changed the way he made movies." You know, two years ago. Yes, I'm still bitter about the whole Aviator losing thing.

Morricone Touched by Dion Tribute: "Honorary Oscar recipient Ennio Morricone was incredibly moved when Celine Dion sang a new song for him at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Morricone received a prize for his lifetime achievement in scoring films and Dion debuted the song 'I Knew I Loved You' during the tribute. He explains Dion's performance 'gave me immense pleasure. She said (at first), "You know, I don't know if I'm going to be capable because I'm feeling very moved myself." ' The veteran composer claims one of his most treasured possessions is a record of Dion singing the theme from Once Upon A Time In America." So just to confirm, here... the Celine song had nothing to do with Morricone? He didn't write it or anything? Because I kept sitting there trying to figure out what the hell was going on ("Ennio Morricone doesn't write this Diane Warren crap!"). Although it is very, very sweet that they had her sing just because it would make him happy.

YouTube Unhurt By Viacom's Monkey Wrench: "Viacom's decision to yank 100,000 clips from its cable TV shows from YouTube has apparently had no effect on the video website whatsoever. In fact, according to research from Hitwise, YouTube traffic has soared 14 percent since the beginning of the month when Viacom demanded that the clips be removed. Moreover, according to the study, the number of people accessing YouTube exceeded the number accessing all of the television network websites combined, excluding the separate sites for individual programs like American Idol."

Indie cameraman films rats "frolicking" at KFC-Taco Bell outlet.

The Napkin Fiction Project: "Esquire magazine sent 250 clean white cocktail napkins to writers across the U.S. What they got back proves not only the rich possibilities of this 'spontaneous medium,' but how much fiction can be crammed into that small square of space. Some of the tissue-thin papers returned bearing microscopic lettering and impressively involved narratives. (Rick Moody, your handwriting is so very, very tiny.)"

From Neil Gaiman: "Finally, Joyce Hatto's husband has confessed, and offered the most humane version of the story possible. I'm not sure that I believe it, but, as I said yesterday when I listed it as a possibility, it makes the best story. This'll be a movie within the next few years, I have no doubt, and Jim Broadbent will probably be playing Mr Barrington-Coupe..." The story being that Hatto was in such pain that she couldn't record performances without grunts of pain, so her husband (Barrington-Coupe) started splicing in bits of "near-identical" performances to cover them. "In the letter, Barrington-Coupe explains that he did indeed pass off other people’s recordings as his wife’s, but that he did it to give her the illusion of a great end to an unfairly (as he terms it) overlooked career." But then: "The question remains as to how much of this confession we should actually believe. It is in some ways a humane, romantic story. However, newspaper investigations following the first Hatto revelations have uncovered shady dealing from Barrington-Coupe’s past. He received a prison sentence in 1966 for failure to pay purchase tax. Whether this throws doubt on his confession now, made only after our revelations and in the light of the fact that he continued to release 'Hatto' recordings after his wife’s death, is open to debate."

Woman Arrested For Handcuffing Herself To Hugh Grant on Red Carpet: "Dutch TV personality Cielke Sijben from 101 TV approached Grant as he walked the red carpet at the Amsterdam Pathé theatre and without saying a word, calmly shackled herself to him. It is assumed that Sijben was performing a prank for a show for the network but that didn't make the incident any less bizarre for those nearby. An onlooker at the event commented, 'It was incredible. She appeared from nowhere and Grant couldn't believe it was happening.' Police later arrested Sijben, but not before Grant had to stand attached to her for almost ten minutes before fire fighters could arrive to cut the handcuffs. Grant said nothing while waiting to be freed, but as soon as the cuffs were off he went back to working the press line alongside co-star Drew Barrymore." (Video!)

Dang, got here with new linkspam just too late!

Not quite your normal fare (http://www.dailytech.com/Wii+Invades+Retirement+Home/article6191.htm), but this story is so adorable I thought you might like it.

And about this linkspam... I dunno, I'm really creeped out by the whole idea of a Star Trek film which has Kirk/Spock/Bones etc. The looks of the three actors are suprisingly good, but still... It just sits wrongly with me.

That footage ran on various NYC news programs for days, and it never stopped being simultaneously horrific and hilarious.

Fantastic Four 2 TV Spot & Teaser Poster.

A commerical for FF2 ran during last night’s Heroes, and all I can say is that if there weren’t any Reed/Sue/Johnny threesone fanfics before, there certainly are now.

Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise to do Star Trek?

I’ve thought for years that Sinise would be perfect as a younger “Bones” McCoy. Sweet! I have doubts about McAvoy as Scotty, though; I don’t think he’s beefy enough.

Why don't they just get the inevitable over with, and next time pick the prospective talent FROM the nekkid pictures they find online?

Didn't one of the actresses who lost to Anna Paquin in 1993 do the same thing? Something about losing to a child?

Eckhart Talks Knight's Two-Face

I'm honestly kinda looking forward to this performance. Eckhart did such an awesome job of being the good bad guy in "Thank You for Smoking" that I think he'll have the fluidity required to pull off this role. No offense to Tommy Lee Jones, but he really didn't pull off the Sane/Crazy dynamic that was needed for the Two-Face role.

I'm wondering now if "Vice President" is just a new name for the Spinal Tap percussion section.

We muted the television during the Celine Dion bit.
That Star Trek article would have benefited from a side-by-side of Damon/Brody/Sinese with Shatner/Nimoy/Kelley.
I didn't finish the entirety of the review of The 300, but even what I read of it sounds like they've changed certain details from the actual graphic novel (which I haven't finished yet either, because I can only take so much of Miller's dialogue and crazy mostly naked men preparing for battle).
I love Ellen DeGeneres, she's so sunny and cheerful and nice. I also loved Jon Stewart's hosting.

The Celine Dion bit confused me a little because the music was clearly from "Once Upon A Time In America",
which Ennio Morricone did all the music for, and my brother absolutely loves (the music AND the film).
So it was weird to hear lyrics over it.

I have linkspam for you! Kenneth Eng is at it again: he published a piece on why he hates African-Americans. During Black History Month. Oooh, boy. For those of you who aren't familiar with the guy, he's widely known on the Net for spamming messageboards with praise for his (godawful) sci-fi novels. He also runs a website, from which he speechifies about why he is God. No, really. He lists himself as "Kenneth Eng, God" on his Amazon page.

And just to cleanse your brain after reading his rant: cute little story I found on IMDB. Christian Bale says: "At first, I was somewhat hesitant to do the role. I mean, after all, Batman is an icon. But I remember, as clear as day, being at the grocery store the day the movie opened, and this little boy saw me. He couldn't have been more than five years old. He just walked right up to me and hugged me. He hugged me, and I was so moved by it that I hugged him back. Then he looked up at me and said "You're my hero." And in that moment, I knew that not only as an actor that I had done my job, but that I had made the right decision to play Batman. And I've never looked back on my the decision to play Batman since." Aww.

To piggyback on the above, here's (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/02/27/MNGTCOBI921.DTL) the article in the SF Chronicle about that.
From: [identity profile] lauramcvey.livejournal.com
I know. He also published a bunch of articles on how the man is keeping him down. Par exemple: http://news.asianweek.com/news/view_article.html?article_id=e50d589d0b9f6987fac2f6fccc940053&this_category_id=172 Why oh why didn't they put him the the straitjacket and leave him there?
And yes, that story (The Christian Bale story, not Eng's ranting) gave me the warm fuzzies. Even if I am really jealous of that kid.

After reading the 300 review, I've gotta wonder if the author realized that this curt criticism is exactly why women are going to attend to the gore-fest:

"At least Sin City had actual talent to go along with its intertwining storyline and poetic dialogue -- all 300 has going for it is a bunch of sexy men swinging swords and screaming bloody murder."

Sounds like a perfect 10 to me! ;)
