cleolinda: (twilight lolcat)

So, a few things--mostly Twilight-related, now that I think about it. Sorry in advance for that.

I'm still working on the Eclipse thing (eh, we can speak of it. We've all known for months, if not since November 2008, that I would be doing it). For some reason, I pretty much had a mild nervous breakdown trying to do the New Moon one, and for some reason... I really don't give a shit this time around, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Maybe because I feel like New Moon turned out really well and I'm just not even bothering to worry that I could top that; maybe because it's summer and it's hot and life is too short. I "wrote" a few scenes in my head--I do that--but didn't even type anything out until I saw the movie a second time. And today I was just sitting there, trying to figure out what to do--I get to this point where it's like, I can do parody dialogue, but when you get to the text descriptions you need to move from point A to point B, that's when I start rocking in the corner. Those are the bits that take me the longest to make work. So, you know what, I thought? Fuck it. I'ma write in more Viking saga any time I get stuck. I'm going to have people walking in off the street, as it were--people who only hear about the Fifteen Minutes stuff and don't read my regular journal--who are probably going to be confused or dismissive, but there you are. At least it's something new to play with. So what I'm telling you here is that Not Giving a Shit is turning out to be a very positive experience, and I'm back to having fun with it.

Anyway. There's a great thread on the Edward Cat entry where people are sharing pictures of their own cats (and a few dogs). Also, speaking of Edward Cat: it has been pointed out to me that if [livejournal.com profile] snowcoma woke up to find him in her lap, that means... he was watching her sleep. Just like an Edward should. Bless.

(Do y'all have a rocking chair? He might like one.)

I still keep going back to that entry of [livejournal.com profile] snowcoma's, by the way. I am a ridiculous softie for pets anyway, but it just makes me feel extra fuzzy to see Edward Cat and his giant bear paws so happy.

You guys. Seriously.

(I also noticed that there's a bell on his collar, so he gets to have his very own chime accompaniment, as a catpire should.)

Speaking of cats! Eclipse with lolcats is up! (The Twilight one is where my icon comes from.) I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.

Also, someone sent me a comic about Twilight a long while back, and I didn't bookmark it and can't find it now. I hate to give away the punchline, but I'll have to, in order for anyone to know what I'm talking about. It was: "I thought she meant anal." So... yeah. ETA: Ah! Here we are.

Also-also: This trailer chagrins me. But then, I want the Epic Movie people shot into the sun anyway, so.

I know there must be some people, somewhere, that enjoy these movies. BUT WHO ARE THEY? Seriously, I do wonder how on earth there is the money to keep making these movies, and what on earth makes studio execs think it's a good idea to make them?

They actually make something like $80 million each worldwide, was the number I saw today. And they cost maybe $20 million to make. And this one, people who hate Twilight'll go see it, and people who love it'll probably see it too. It's not a bad move at all financially. I just deeply resent that I'll have to see commercials for this when, as a friend pointed out, there are a hundred better parodies on YouTube.

I don't know how much nerd!fail you're interested in following, but ontd_political and wow_ladies, along with, oh, the WSJ and MSNBC are following an implosion of common sense in the online gaming world.

I mean, even fandom_wank is against this. Fandom_wank!

Even if someone's not a gamer, it's interesting to follow this as it evolves, as it may be a part of the fall of anonymity on the internet in general.

When I get super-stressed, mostly over college and loans and crap, I switch into Not Giving a Shit mode. "Nope! I don't see you, problems! When I have my nose in a non-school-related book, I can't see you and you can't see me!"

It really is often the best option. There's no point in freaking out and going in circles over something.

Heeee, the pictures of Edward-cat with his belly up, all "Moar pettings nao" still make me grin.

You know who I want to take on a vampire parody movie? Simon Pegg and Egdar Wright. I giggle at the mere thought of it, and I have no idea how the movie would even go. I just know that Nick Frost would be Simon's BFF/boyfriend and Bill Nighy would have a cameo. This is all a vampire parody movie needs.

On the complete other end of the scale, I was talking with a friend last night about who might get tapped to score the Breaking Dawn movies, and if Michael Giacchino is in for a chance (DEATHBABY OPERA!) it would be hilarious to have a JJ Abrams directed pair of movies.

I still say it's not possible to parody Twilight because you simply can't make it funnier than it already is. That trailer did nothing to change my mind, and in fact strengthened my position.

It didn't help that they actually stole a joke from that viral video for G-Force (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbAppj00nZo) that I think you posted last year.

And, hey, look--jokes about how gay men are revolting! Because that never gets old!

Date: 2010-07-08 03:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I have to admit, much of my Twilight recapping has involved simply stating what actually happens.

And yeah, I personally try to go in the opposite direction from "Lol Twilight, Edward is so gay." Because it's used a lot, and it's too easy, and it ignores much sharper points you could be making. The only time I go there is if a particular scene seems to have some unusually homoerotic undertone, as opposed to just "lol sparkles are gay."
