Oh my God, I am so behind on everything and I pulled a leg muscle moving boxes yesterday so I took some Aleve and a nap late this afternoon and I woke up feeling loopy and tireder and I kind of arrgh. So I have a number of things to get to, but I think I'm going to mention them tomorrow so they don't get lost in the shuffle.

(Happy clouds. Peaceful, happy clouds.)

And happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sweetdragon (Dayna at Made of Fail)!

I'm not even an Austen fan, but I can't tell you how much this book amuses me. Or how amused I am by how quickly it continues to fly off our shelves.

At the Barnes & Nobles where I got mine, the store had a section for required books for local schools. P&P&Z was stacked in that section, which leaves me to imagine some interesting discussions in 9th grade English.

Also, the book is awesome. The study guide alone is genius.

I'm kind of iffy about the whole Angels & Demons movie...I wasn't terribly impressed with The Da Vinci code's translation onto the screen and I'm still not a huge fan of Tom Hanks as Langdon.

I saw the trailer in the movie theatre and it looked very exciting. However, I also thought there was no way the Da Vinci Code could not be campy and entertaining, and then I saw the movie. So I'm fully prepared for the trailer to be more exciting than the whole rest of the movie.

That's an awesome photo, although I kind of feel like the clouds are coming to get me :)

Interesting stuff about privacy. I'm trying to keep my LJ account anonymous, but we'll see how well that works out. Also interesting in terms of the bloggers whose real identities have been outed in the last few months (one involved in the fandom/race discussions, one an Alaskan political blogger). There's a lot of debate going on about whether it's appropriate to deliberately dig up and publicise bloggers' real identities, and whether it's appropriate to make anonymous posts without being prepared to stand behind them in real life. I think this is an issue that's just getting started.

Date: 2009-03-31 01:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Oh, I think it's entirely inappropriate (and even dangerous) to out people. And I think it's important for people to be able to say things without having to "stand behind them in real life"--I know people start getting called "coward" at that point, but you know? It's not a terrible thing to compartmentalize. Sometimes people need to be able to say important things without fear of retribution (whistle-blowing, or political things); sometimes they just need to be able to have fun in the same way that they keep their 9-to-5 and their social lives separate. Or professional identities--IRL, for example, "Natalie Portman" is not Natalie Portman's birth name. For her own reasons, she chose a professional name. You should be able to do that and not have someone feel free to out you for their own crazy reasons. I chose one both for safety/privacy and family reasons, and I feel like people should respect that.

Ideally, to me, there's two rules (of thumb, or otherwise) here--respect pseudonyms, but also take the "open universe" concept into account as you blog (under whatever name).

Yeah, trusting MS-NBC on an Apple story is like interviewing Karl Rove about the Obama administration. The story did make an effort to be fair, but the source has an obvious bias.

FWIW, this quote in the article is spot on:
"At Macworld [in January], there was a high expectation for new models of the iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro," said Larry O'Connor, chief executive of Apple developer Other World Computing Inc., in Woodstock, Ill. "When they didn't come out, a decent percentage of people were holding out. Those machines all started shipping in March. I bet for this quarter, they make up a lot of the downtick they experienced in February."

That's exactly why I delayed buying my new machine. I'm getting it next week.

Well, if nothing else the new Star Trek movie will be providing us an incredibly hot Orion slave girl. Sadly, that's exactly the sort of "throwing the fans a bone" ploy that would actually work on me. Although I'm hoping her green make-up looks better in the film because it looks sort of half-assed in that still.

Speaking of throwing the fans a bone, what's up with New Moon's Caius being a young stud? I mean, I'm hardly one to care if they start putzing around with the source novel, but that's just silly. It's only another reason to make teenage girls flock to the movie.

Also, I am incredibly excited about both Ghostbusters 3 and the upcoming Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg movie. The former may disappoint, but so far the latter have never let me down.

I wonder if edgar wright is still panning to remake Gorgo? That'd be awesome.

From: [identity profile] lyricalnights.livejournal.com
While I enjoyed Jamie Campbell Bower in Sweeney Todd, "young stud" might be stretching it a little. He has an -interesting- face that I personally like better than Pattinson's mug, but I don't really see him being a big hormonal teenager draw. Maybe that's just me. ;)

Oh man, I'm kinda ambivalent at the possibility of an Eastern Promises sequel. On one hand, I thought the movie was perfect by itself and it doesn't really need a sequel. But on the other hand the [SPOILER] revealed during the last part of the movie about Viggo's character certainly presented an interesting avenue that could be expanded on in a second movie. Also I want to see more of Viggo's character and Naomi Watts' character, because damn, did they have good chemistry together.

Date: 2009-03-31 03:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greedyskunk.livejournal.com
I agree. Viggo's character was so intriguing and he did a wonderful job with the accent. I was also happy to see that they didn't go the "typical" route and make them lovers.
