Sad if true, and I hope it's not

Erin of Project Download passed away yesterday? All I knew was that she deleted the LJ comm several months ago with no explanation and disappeared--does anyone know what happened?

ETA: We've confirmed it.

I had been sending her e-mails a few times a month after I met her on IJ and we discovered we had Chiari in common. However, I haven't gotten any responses in months.

I hope it's just a sad rumour...

She disappeared from LJ awhile ago, but people on Facebook were claiming that some of her other online accounts had recent activity. This was a few months ago though, and all the information I've got is second-hand from people who may or may not know her.

[identity profile] thisiamdenied.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no. :( I thought someone had donated the money for her operation?

[identity profile] inkytwist.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because she could afford it doesn't necessarily mean that the operation worked. I know we're told from birth essentially that doctors can fix you with an operation, but a lot of times (and especially with brain surgery) they open it up and see A LOT MORE or realize that they can't take out this without permanently damaging that...

(Only really chiming in because my Aunt died last week. Of brain cancer. Yeeaaaah.)

[identity profile] editornia.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I don't have any information for you. I'm just hoping she's still alive! And okay...

Maybe the surgery did *not* go well, tho'?

*worries*

EDIT: I think I remember that her account and/or community was hacked and taken over. I can't remember the details, tho'. :(

No activity since February 2008 on Erin's Reality Charity page (http://www.realitycharity.com/view_item.php?listing_id=2155). I know no more than that.

Please let this be untrue.

[identity profile] krazycat.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I call shenanigans. The dude who posted the comment is listed as a member of the Paducah Tilghman High School network. A quick Google tells me that this is in Kentucky. Erin was in Oregon.

I may be wrong, but this looks like a very ill advised prank from a bored High School student.

I used to go up to Paducah on weekend trips all the time.

Definitely a small world. From Lone Oak rather than Tilghman, though.

I hope this is patently untrue. :\

If someone knows her real name, perhaps searching for an obit online might help? It's not a definitive way, but. I can't imagine there not being an obit for someone young, especially. Though I am no expert.

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Erin Smith Chiari Portland OR turns up articles that I assume are on her; one of them (the only one I read) is from November 2007, I think, and talks about her with details that fit what very little I know. Adding "obituary" to that hasn't yielded anything yet, but on the other hand, if it was yesterday, Google may not have crawled the Portland papers yet, even assuming that an obit has been received and posted, either online or in print.

All her community and personal pages that I could find, even over at insanejournal, have been deleted and purged, and the pd website no longer exists. Her friends over at greedy or needy are totally posting RIPs in her shout-outs, but I can't find actual details anywhere.

I clicked on the profile link of the person who claimed she passed away, and the profile no longer exists. So I call b.s.

I actually wondered if I knew her, she has the name of someone I know, and she's the right age, and we were both growing up in a suburb of portland.

I'd hold off certain judgment until Tuesday, since obits can take a few days to process into newspapers here, but I think if an obit hasn't shown up in the Portland papers by then, it's bogus.

[identity profile] roseredhoofbeat.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Does everyone get an obit? I thought it was only if your family paid for one.

It is true. I am a friend of Erin's. Her finacee found her passed away on Friday evening when he came home from work. The funeral arrangements have not been made yet. Please folks, this is a sad time for Erin's family and friends.

I'm so sorry. An entry or so forward I do say that it had been confirmed--I'll add that to this entry to make sure people aren't confused.

Erin Bennett...

[identity profile] princessjasso.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Was her name... She was a dear friend of mine. Along with her boyfriend. Unfortunately Erin did indeed pass away March 27th.... Her services will be held on Wednesday, April 1st and how my heart wishes this was a prank. FOr any of you who are doubting this, you must not know her, or know her well enough to access to her real life, and for this I am sad... you have missed out on knowing an exceptional woman and wonderful friend.... I love you Erin.....

Wow. That's a really upsetting end. I had hoped she had disappeared simply because she was using the money raised to get better and had all the medical stuff to deal with. :(

I hope something official goes up and not just a discussion on facebook. What a piece of bad news.

something official

[identity profile] smileyriley3.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Sonce an obit has not been published and you still choose not to believe my son on facebook, you could attend the memorial service on Wed april 1st at Atkinson Memorial Church 710 6th st Oregon City, OR 97045.
Beleive me my son is hurting more than most of you. Erin was like an aunt to him. Not only has he lost her, but has had to endure such insensitivity and accusations.
