Erin of Project Download passed away yesterday? All I knew was that she deleted the LJ comm several months ago with no explanation and disappeared--does anyone know what happened?

ETA: We've confirmed it.

This reminds me of my fear of not being able to notify everyone I know online of my demise should it happen suddenly. I can only hope my bff figures out my LJ password and lets the world know. /morbid.

I've totally thought about that before.

Several years ago I wrote out and sealed up a letter with URLs, usernames and passwords and instructions to my parents, if I go unexpectedly. Can't find it now. Should probably update it...but also strangely morbid and odd facet of the internet social pool.

Thank you. My husband helped my friend's grieving father hack some of his accounts, and it would have been a much easier task had he left something like that.

I have the same thing. It's amongst my jewlery and has a IF I DIED labeled on it. Kinda morbid and something my parents don't need to see but I figure my internet friends are some of my best friends, they deserve to know.

There was an article on Yahoo's front page week before last about that sort of thing, with a list of steps to take so that your online life is notified if your offline life is no more. It was interesting stuff, really.

There used to be a website called DiedOnline.com where you could set up an account, and you'd have to log in every set number of days to keep your account active and let people know you were still alive. If you didn't log in after that time, it would e-mail your friends with whatever message you wrote to let them know that you were dead (The only problem here being, you know, remembering to log in every so often). However, the website seems to have... died.

IRONY, THY NAME IS INTERNETS. Do you think the website sent out notification emails to all its customers upon its demise?

xD No, I don't think they did. However, I'd forgotten to log into my account long before the site went down, so maybe they figured I wouldn't need a notification.

This is such an interesting conundrum. I will totally be putting stipulations and instructions about notification in my will, but surprise death not so much.

I like the sealed letter in an envelope though.

I have that same fear, especially since most of my close friends have moved to different states, and my primary way of communicating with them is online.

That envelope idea isn't bad. I guess you could include it in your will XD It actually wouldn't be a bad idea to tell a trusted friend/relative about its existance and location so that if something happens they will surely find it.

Granted, you have to trust them enough to know they won't hack your accounts. lol.

p.s.
Your username is adorable XD I giggled muchly.

There was an interesting entry over on [livejournal.com profile] fenopause about this sort of thing.

Here (http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/20090314/ap_on_hi_te/tec_death_online) is the article they linked to.

That's something I've wondered about, too.
