Okay, much to my terror, I have, in fact, listed Eowyn (Not Eowyn) and the book, together, on eBay. The description is a little hard-ass, as a result of me being terrified that I'll somehow screw it up, and also, because I read this, and I am not looking forward to a hundred dumbass questions from the persistent eBay masses like "Does she have hands? I can't see any hands."

Anyway. The auction'll end next Sunday night, I think? There it is.

I have so much crap I could sell on Ebay, but the site scares the bejeebus outta me.

If you're terrified of eBay, I always recommend using craigslist where you deal with people locally and payment comes in the form of cash. I've never had a bad experience and haven't heard of any horror stories about scams and nonpayment.

The bidding is really crazy right now! I tried to bid and I was outbidded... three times! I think I am going to wait a little.

Wait, what? Seriously?

You know what it might be? I forget the term for it--you can put in a maximum bid, like, "I am willing to spend $50 on this," and it'll auto-bid for you until it goes over your limit. (And then you can put in a higher limit, if you want.) You get two or more people with maximum bids in there--hoooooo Lord, the numbers will make huge jumps within seconds.

Thank you for the eBay adventures link. I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. It was so bad I had to stop eating dinner for fear of choking to death. (No sweet rolls were involved in my dinner.)

Good on you, hon. The description seems straight-forward enough; may you not received hundreds of dumbass Ebay questions. (Also? What is your reserve price? Because I kind of want to bid to help drive up the price for you, but I don't actually want to buy it.)

That link.. wow. It's like I wrote it. Scary.

I rarely sell on Ebay but when I do I ONLY ship within US. I'm lazy and not up to dealing with the customs form and going to the post office. I write US only in my description and tick of the correct shipping box for US only. And I swear to whateverhighdeityofyourchoice there is always one Canadian who writes and asks will I ship to Canada.

The last person who won my auction I go to invoice her and lo and behold.. she lives in Canada. And the exact same words... "Oh. Most people tick off US only but will ship to Canada. I assumed you would too." Grrrrrr. I told her she either needed to give me a US address or I was re-listing and she was going to pay for the fees. She took a day and found a US friend to take the shipment. :P

I see you've put a reserve on it - good for you. :D

Also, I predict a FRENZY of bidding in the last fifteen minutes of the auction (which is SO appropriate, don't you think?)

I do have to say, there are some special (read: idiot) sellers on ebay too. I bought a book way cheaper than I could find anywhere else. I win the auction, I submit money to paypal using the handy dandy link ebay gives you that the seller has filled out. Nothing. A few days later, I get a message saying that I need to pay. I forward my paypal email saying I did pay - 3 days ago, and tell the seller that I would like my book please. She goes: "oh, that's not my paypal account, ******* is my paypal account." This was not a scam, but rather a case of her being a dumbass, making a typo when filling out the ebay info, and not bothering to check it, because it's not like it's important for her to get paid or anything. ::facepalm::

Moral: proofread ebay info before posting. :) You seem to have your bases covered, as you are not an idiot.

Out of curiosity, and if you don't mind me asking, of course... how did that end? Did she develop a conscience and mail you the book in the end?

I have the uncomfortable feeling you were out your money and the quasi-yours book. I don't know what I would do in that situation. I never do. Woe.

Y'know, while I can really understand the frustrations of ebayers who say "only within the US" and actually mean "only within the US", I'm in Australia and almost everything I've bought has come from an "only within the US" seller. I message them, they quote me shipping and change the options, and I buy it. I'm not sure if I've bought anything from anyone who did say they shipped out of the US. So it is because most people say that, but really don't mean it.

OMG Eowyn is soooo pretty.

And I had this obsession with collecting LOTR items. The thing is I'd take 'em out of the boxes *slaps hands*. I can't help it. I have to touch see Legolas and Aragorn in all their glory.

I have the smaller Legolas figure and the big Aragorn doll, among other LOTR collectibles. They are beautiful.

I shall keep an eye on Eowyn. She'd seem like a good addition to my group.

Your posting TN/Sars makes me remember back when the internet was newer, though not quite so shiny as it is now, and TN was my daily diet of joyful snark (that plus Dawson's Wrap, later Mighty Big TV, now not nearly as fun as it once was). I'd drifted from it since I read it in my teendom, but your link sent me down the rabbit hole of TN fun. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for linking over there.

Also, I am terrified of eBay. I do not trust it, though I know I should.
