Quick linkspam, much of it sad:

Harold Pinter, Whose Silences Redefined Drama, Dies at 78.

Eartha Kitt, a Seductive Legend of Stage and Screen, Dies at 81.

'Sopranos' actor 'Johnny Cakes' dead in suicide.

Fox Owns Rights to ‘Watchmen’ Says Judge; WATCHMEN RULING: Where Was Larry? I'm hoping this means that this is just a massive shakedown (legally justified or not) and WB will have to pay Fox a shitload of money, rather than Fox preventing or usurping the distribution of the movie.

Disney Abandons ‘Narnia’ Franchise, Third Film Now In Doubt; How Disney Killed Off Its Billion-Dollar 'Narnia' Franchise. And I have to say, they're absolutely right. Between the release date and the advertising, Disney has no one to blame for the box office performance of Prince Caspian but themselves.

Neil Gaiman finally gets his own Coraline box; Metafilter discusses the campaign, and more than one commenter points out that it actually may be more beneficial for the bloggers, as people reading general overviews of the boxes are discovering lesser-known blogs and sites (mine being one of them).

Because it made me laugh: Official Twilight Perfume at Hot Topic. $48 a bottle! Only one per customer, please! Guess what it smells like. NO, GUESS. Also, they apparently ripped off the Nina Ricci bottle like whoa. I mean LIKE WHOA.

To cheer you up, I bring you something I've been saving for a Christmas post since Sister Girl first sent it to me in October. Just watch it all the way through:

Woah. That is totally the same perfume bottle. Isn't there some sort of design IP that can be used to set the Twilight perfume people on fire? Other than, you know, dousing them with their own perfume and lighting it...

I think we're all hoping for the best with Watchmen.

I know I am...

"Perhaps Disney was rushing the film, or perhaps they were afraid of going up against the Harry Potter sequel that was originally scheduled for this winter, but it's hard to argue that the studio wouldn't have found more success with Caspian right now."

...And Harry Potter was pushed back as to avoid a confrontation with Twilight. So, technically, this brings everything back to my logical conclusion that EVERYTHING BAD THAT HAPPENS NOW IS ALL SMEYER'S FAULT!

Actually, HP was pushed back because WB had nothing big for 2009 as a financial year, and it looked better to spread it out, after The Dark Knight made even more money than they expected. You know, push a surefire bet to 2009 when they might need it more, so the stockholders don't freak out. It had nothing to do with Twilight, and HP would have crushed it if it had stayed, through sheer demographics alone--the only thing Twilight had to do with it was afterwards, when they jumped into the plum release date HP had vacated.

I cannot believe that I missed looking at what scent that perfume was at first! That is lolarious!

And woah, they totally *did* rip off that Nina Ricci bottle!

Merry Christmas, btw! :-)

Merry Christmas!

Yeah, I'd never seen the Nina Ricci perfume before that comment, but--damn, did they just refill empty Nina bottles or what? Even the leaves are the same shape.

Yes, now you too can attract sparkling, stalking, emo-tastic vampires who give you mixed signals and HAVE THE SKIN OF A KILLER OMG.

Um, that's okay. Really. I'll pass.

Now if you had a scent that might attract a werewolf, I might consider...

Coraline Adverts

An empty storefront in Chicago (at Michigan Avenue and South Water, a former Bennigan's) has been repainted/covered with ad plastic and there is a screen showing bits of the circus scenes.

Amusingly enough, that's the same corner where the bus stop had the first True Blood "ad" i saw.

But it does give me comfort to think of them doing a burlesque variety show together in the afterlife. :)

I still utterly love the "Edward glitter" you linked to. I haven't laughed so much over marketing in a while.

I threatened to buy it for my friend for Christmas (we're 31). Then again, I knew someone who shopped at Hot Topic when I was 22 and I still thought the store was ridiculous.

I don't think those eye lines would have worked... It does sort of feel like cheating, but that Peter and the Wolf short also had a lot of digital erasing, and it was super cool.

When you're famous enough, the singing doesn't matter anymore. The fans drown you out, anyway.

... he... he made a gingerbread man suit work. He hammertimed. He was wearing a hammercookie. And it was awesome. He has my respect.

You could say that it's a coincidence, but there's more than one way to make a bottle look like an apple. (http://www.martinellis.com/store/products/siaj10b.shtml)

The thing about the whole Forbidden Fruit thing is...

It has to be eaten!
