Sleepy

So Pete, Sister Girl's dog, is at the vet overnight on an IV because he can't stop throwing up for some reason (God, I hope he's going to be okay). So when she called to make sure he hadn't thrown up yesterday while I was dogsitting him, she started talking about trying to watch the final Twilight trailer, and I got to play Horrify the Twilight Noob (one of my favoritest games) with her as well. Except that she didn't get to see the whole thing, because Pete started throwing up shortly after she got to the "Kryptonite" line.

"Well, dude! That explains everything. Your dog is allergic to Twilight."

"That line was awful, by the way. Was it supposed to be stupid? Can Kristen Stewart not act?"

"No, trust me. I've read the books. She is doing the best she can with what they're giving her."

And then I read her that bit from the "I'm gay"/"He's impotent" interview and regaled her with excerpts of Growing Up Cullen. ("Oh, he would totally scrapbook." "You haven't even read the books!" "No, but he totally would.") I am slowly converting the people around me to The Dark Side, The Way of Lulz, so that someone will take me to see this movie next month.

Oh, and since we've been having Sherlock Holmes set pics: a flashback to the Case Book of Sherlock Holmes entry, in which I express some frustration with "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane." Also notable for "the zenith of Holmes/Watson slashiness."

I absolutely don't get the Slutoween thing. I didn't even dress sexy until I was 20 or something. Before that, I was a clown/witch/gypsy/tiger of the unsexy variety.

Actually, when you're a kid living in Canada, Slutoween has a hard time existing... it's hard to get that candy when your belly and legs are bare and you're freezing. October is fucking cold.

[identity profile] rinnamarie.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
The first Halloween after I moved from a hot-weather climate to a cold-weather climate, I didn't really grasp how that would affect my costume choice. I was so upset when I had to wear a ski suit under my Cleopatra costume.

I watched My Own Worst Enemy last night, and it was okay, but Christian Slater is not what he once was in my long ago youth. Don't taint the memory, Chris.

If I hadn't been able to completely accept the actress switch between Nolan Batmans, I'd be more worried about the Cheadle thing, but I think he's more than up to it. We'll hardly notice. And on another actor-swapping note, while I like Paterson Joseph, there's been so much prior talk about how much David Tennant enjoys the role and wants to beat Tom Baker's run, and how much the BBC love him, that I don't see them switching doctors as soon as 2011.

[identity profile] honorh.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Tennant's already beat Baker for number of episodes. He may still have a few years left in him, but if we are switching out Doctors in 2011, Joseph would be the best possible choice, IMHO. He was so good as the Marquis de Carabas, a character Neil Gaiman partially modeled on the Doctor, and if he brought the same energy to the role of the Doctor, it't be truly fantastic.

aw man! i begged and pleaded with my mom for a samantha doll when i was ten, and i got one for christmas. this was back when "american girl" was still pleasant company. (i kept pitching PCo. on a series of books about a 1920s girl, and they always corresponded with me in a very kind way.) that is some sad news.

[identity profile] rinnamarie.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sexy Spongebob Squarepants? Seriously? If that doesn't mark the increasing decline of western society, I don't know what does.

And I have to admit, my inner 6th-grader squeed when I read about the Ace of Base comeback. That was the first cd I ever bought. Ah, memories.

I don't buy it. Samantha is still one of the more popular ones--if they were going to retire one of the original ones, I think it'd have to be Kirsten.

They did "retire" Felicity a few years ago, then brought her back a couple years later, I think when she had the movie and then they introduced the doll of her friend Elizabeth.

If they need more room, they could get rid of all the extra Kit stuff they introduced this summer. No doll needs a treehouse.

I have been trying to do the same, because after all of this build-up, I *have* to go see it. Although it might be best if I waited til it was on dvd, so the fangirls in the theater don't hurt me.

I hope Pete's ok.

Also, seconding the 'this is bullshit' about retiring Samantha.

[identity profile] venusad.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
The Kryptonite line pisses me off so bad, because...what the hell is that supposed to mean? You can't say "radioactive spider" and then "kryptonite". Those are like too completely opposite things! I know that that was what's herfacescriptwriterIforgot trying to beef up the crap conversation of the books, but man, I was Thirteen. Poetic Dialogue isn't exactly her strong suite anyway.

If anything she should have said "yellow suns"...but man, that wouldn't have made sense to anyone but 10% of the population.

I'm not sure I'll ever get tired of reciting the whole Twilight plot summary as fast as I can to a noob and just watching their eyes get wider and wider (until their head most likely explodes).

[identity profile] jharrison19.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kindof pissed they're making a twilight sequel a) cause it's gonna be missing Edward for, like, all of it, and rpattz is important to my commitment and 2) my only consulation for obsessively checking the interweb for twilight was that it could stop after the movie was out. But woe, I will have to continue my 108-year-old-virgin like obsession.
Who am I kidding, I'm super excited.

And heeey.... are you going to write recaps for the rest of the True Blood eps? It would be grand. :)
